Today, one of our committee members, Tony Cagnacci, had an accident on the Putty
Road. Tony is not aware as to what happened whilst travelling along a straight
section of road other than he has hit the gravel and his bike ended up in the
ditch and he skidded on the gravel roadway. His injuries include a broken
collarbone, fractured ribs, two exposed knee caps (right knee is extensive)and
grazes and lacerations. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital where he is
recovering. Everyone at BA wishes Tony a quick recovery and that he is home with
his family soon.
It is always unfortunate when one of our riders has a mishap whilst enjoying a
day out. However, I must mention that his "Draggin Jeans" did very little to
protect his knees or skin. Please take note and wear protective clothing (eg
leathers) and ensure your bike is well maintained before riding on a ride for
your own safety.
A special thanks also to Amanda Edwards as tail rider for riding to the meeting
point and keeping a cool head (for once) and raising the alarm: - to newcomer,
Tim Marcovic for staying in control and looking after Tony, directing traffic
and assisting Police and Ambulance officers in getting the assistance he
required.
I also want to say another special "thanks" to Sam and Simone who stayed with
their vehicle for over two hours directing traffic and keeping Tony safe.
The above combined efforts, together with the expertise and assistance of the
Police, Ambulance and Helicopter officers and locals, have helped Tony to a
quick recovery and ultimately moved him to a safe place.
Ps. It was great to see so many new and usual riders today enjoying the day
out.
See you all on the next ride.
