ok emma, heres my serious reply.i use to love Dukes, wanted a 916 as
long as i can remember, till i talked to a few
enthusiasts...the "desmo whatever" thing (4 valves per cylinder)
bikes like the 916,996,998,999,748,749 bikes r
1.bloody dear to buy
2.bloody dear to service
3.not as reliable
4.use a dry clutch (so primitave)
now ur talking about a 600Monster, different kettle of fish ( & i
kno that Doc,Lou etc will prob give me a hard time over this) but the
ppl i talk to who have owned them, seem to think there not as
reliable as jap bikes, and not as cheap to keep on the road...they r
apparently very similar motor design as the 1980's bikes , and one
guy i kno over here actually sold a 900M to buy a gix 600 simply cos
he thought the duke was 2 hard to ride (handled like crap, cost a
fortune, and was not reliable enuf)..mind u it depends wot ur gunna
use it for (commuting??posing??riding hard??), how much of the
servicing etc u can do urself, and wot u like in a bike?
as said b4 many times, id b test riding ANYTHING i considered buying,
and trying to compare it ...if u like v-twins, compare it to a
SV650/1000 , or a vtr1000..i kno its a jap bike, and a bit bigger,
but u might b surprised...also with the z750 coming out,the
hornet,fazer 600 etc theres plenty of bikes around.....as i said, i
always loved the 916, but ill never own one (unless its a ornament in
my living room wen i win lotto)
hope this is of sum use..prob not tho
neka
