I am so lucky to be alive this afternoon, what with how leathal speeding is
to the human body!

Luckily for me, I got pulled over by the police and fined for speeding -
96kph in a 90kph zone.

Where James? I want to make sure I don't use that road.

PS.
That sucks. I am sure you could contest that (if you have a good
driving history). I mean, by the time you factor in all the margins
of error (speedo, radar equipment etc), it would be hard to argue.

3 May 2005
Two teenagers are currently assisting police with their inquiries following
a lengthy pursuit from St Mary's to Mudgee overnight.

About 8.30pm (Monday 2 May 2005) a white coloured Subaru RS refused to stop
when directed by St Marys Police for not having number plates on the
vehicle. A pursuit was then initiated.

It continued to The Bells Line of Road where road spikes were laid at the
Bells Weighbridge, however the Subaru managed to drive around them.

Lithgow police took over the pursuit at Bell where it continued through
Lithgow to Mudgee. The vehicle left the Castlereagh Highway and travelled
down a dirt track where police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.

About 5.10am today Lithgow Police received a call from a local service
station indicating there was a suspicious motor vehicle in his driveway
waiting for him to open. Due to its description police immediately responded
to the scene where they positively identified the vehicle.

Two 18-year-old males from the Penrith area were arrested by police and
taken to Lithgow Police Station where they are currently assisting police
with their inquiries.

There was a court-case recently (<12mths) about some bloke who was fined
for signalling other drivers of a radar trap. He was cleared of the
conviction because he argued (sucessfully) that he was slowing drivers
down. His main point was that the police were at the site to do the same
job, and that they were not there to raise revenue.

I've tried googling for it, SMH and AUSTLII searches, but have come up
blank :( maybe someone else can find it?

Tim.

when we first came out here i thought i was doing the right thing by
flashing my high beam to other riders since in the UK that is akin
to the head nod, so i t took me a while to find out all those riders
thought i was warning them about a cop up aheas of them :)

fwiw, i will flash my lights or wave my hand in a circle over my
head to indicate speed trap type cops, but not rbt cops, also i only
give the warning for a few kms after i have passed the problem,
otherwise the car or bike i have 'warned' might be carefull for a
while then relax and speed up into the trap

also if someone waves their hands around and youare not sure what
the message is why not check your dash etc just to make sure, though
sinice you no doubt do that every 5 to 10 secs like you where tought
then that isn't needed :)

Hand signals are an informal courtesy. Recently I thought some guy
riding past had a sore wrist. I didnt realise til a bit further on
the my indicator was still flashing.
Many people either dont know how to give a clear hand signal, or dont
take much care when giving a signal. I both cases, it causes
confusion to the rider they are signalling. So when someone is waving
their hand about like they are in a sword fight, it could mean
anything.
So may be its time for some rider education!

(I expect the usual brick bats to be hurdled)

On the weekend they were stopping all motorcycles at

Chris,

This is unfortunate as I have been attempting to organise a meeting with the
local Road Safety Officer, RTA and Police about safety on Macquarie Pass.
But they have been putting me off for the last couple of weeks.

I have just rung the RTA and expressed concern that the opportunity to
involve riders in a consultative process may be slipping away.

The RTA have promised to ring me back with an update.

Would you please pass this message on to Garry and Scott.

Safe riding,

just over 2 years) the local police have decided to blitz Macquarie
pass.
