   Dear Sir / Madam

The following article from Police media is a disgrace, you set up a
specific operation to target motorcyclists and you tell everyone how
pleased you are about it; have you bothered to look at the results?

You pull over 139 bikes, 17 riders speeding, (12% of riders speeding)

You pull over 58 motor vehicles of which 31 are speeding, (53% of
motor vehicles drivers other than bikes were speeding)

If you were specifically targeting motorcyclists then I would call
   this operation a complete failure.

Why aren't you specifically targeting the 53% of all other road
user's who appear to be considerably more lawless as a group by your
   own statistics?

Honestly, this is nothing more than a discriminatory demonstration of
   ineptness by the NSW Police.

More than $100,000 worth of motorcycles and equipment stolen –
Goulburn
1 June 2005
Goulburn Police are appealing for public assistance following the
theft of more than $100,000 worth of motorcycles and motorcycle
equipment at Goulburn. Between 12.30am on Sunday 29 May and 8am on
Monday 30 May, unknown offenders forced entry into a motorcycle
dealership in Goldsmith Street. It is believed the offenders loaded
a number of Yamaha motorcycles ranging from 50cc to 450cc, and a
large quantity of motorcycle equipment, including helmets, gloves
and jackets into a truck and drove away from the dealership. The
total value of the motorcycles stolen is in excess of $70,000, and
the accessories are valued at approximately $35,000. Anyone who has
information about the robbery is urged to contact Goulburn Police
Station on 4824 0799 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

Harley Davidson shop destroyed in fire – Blacktown
1 June 2005
Police are investigating a fire which has destroyed a Harley
Davidson motorcycle shop in Blacktown this morning. About 3am, a
security guard patrolling Sunnyholt Road noticed the shop was well
alight and contacted emergency services. It took firefighters
approximately an hour to bring the fire under control and extinguish
the flames. Initial inquiries by detectives from Blacktown indicate
a prime mover – stolen from Smithfield on Monday night – was driven
through the front of the shop. The vehicle was then set on fire,
which caused the entire shop to be destroyed by flames. Adjoining
businesses appear to have been unaffected by the fire. It's believed
a number of people fled the scene in a white Commodore sedan, last
seen travelling north along Sunnyholt Road. The shop contained
modern and antique Harley Davidson motorcycles, including bikes
believed to be the only ones of their kind in the world. A search
has been conducted of the building, however it appears the building
and truck were empty at the time of the blaze. Inquiries indicate
nothing was stolen from the shop. A crime scene has now been
established and Forensic Services Group officers are expected to
spend the morning examining the site. Inquiries into the blaze are
also underway by detectives from Blacktown. Anyone who might have
witnessed suspicious activity in the area early this morning to
contact Blacktown Police Station on 9671-9199 or Crime Stoppers on
1800 333 000.

I suspect the police are achieving exactly what they aimed to do.

I would assume the goal of this operation is to reduce the total
number of single vehicle accidents within their area of command.

OK, so maybe I am a conspiracy theorist from way back, but I see a
few events that point to something fishy.
1) Coppers receive some new toys - presumably big budget expenditure
2) We the target of this operation receive very specific detail about
it weeks beforehand
3) As expected the police are out striclty enforcing the law

So the local area commanders present a report that says "we handed
out 200 fines and their were no single vehicle accidents" which leads
to "expenditure on expensive toys is justified, high police presence
with strict enforcement of traffic law is effective in reducing
SVAs" - or "how good am I".

Why would they care if the result was largely due to bikes moving
rides south and/or those on the Putty riding much slower. I would
presume their report does not survey numbers of riders on the road in
and outside the period of the operation - that would certainly be
counter-productive.

I could be wrong, but it just doesn't make sense that details of any
operation launched to catch "criminals" would be leaked to the
same "criminals" weeks beforehand.

I open this discussion to the floor...

Ok, can someone help me understand what this crap actually menas
(other than the operation backfired as it proved on a percentage
basis that more cars were speeding).

What is the difference between a 'vehicle' and a 'motorcycle' (ok,
so I only ask this to express some sarcasm)

Number of defects. What classifies as a defect and what is the
breakdown. If the defect is bald tyres than that is worse than a
torn seat etc.

17 speeding bikes, 28 defective bikes but only 16 infringements
issued. I thought that speeding was an infringements or did they not
book all. (never mind the 'vehicle' figures)

Total charges of 1. Assuming that this refers to a criminal charge
of some nature (ie. DUI) I wonder what the charge was and whether it
was a bike or a 'vehicle'.

All up, this is the very reason why the Highway Patrol have little
respect from motorists. They seem to target minorities (ie. bikes,
young drivers etc) and then use bias reporting to try to illustrate
that they have achieved a goal. Yet, in this case it appears that
the target backfired as the bikes appear to be the better behaved on
the day (using their figures).

More than twice the number of cars pulled over, and only half the speeding
fines,
And heaps of (petty?) defects.
Seems like a lot of effort for a relatively small result from the "Targeted"
group.
If the stats were done on the same amount of cars to bikes, we would look even
better!

I didnt notice too many defective bikes at Mt White, but rather quite a few
nice, well loved ones.
What was funny was the car going flat out near the 60km zone Brooklyn while I
was stopped, and the Police who pulled out from their stationary position to
follow me when I left the servo.

Congratulations Boys on excellent work, (I didnt get pulled over or booked)
And shame on you Law breakers who were caught.

Maybe next time if they pull more bike people over, they can brag of higher
numbers of blatent threats to society caught.

Bruce

Dave, Your missing the point here... The police are out there trying to help
you! By riding somewhere else on the weekend how can these hard working men
and women in blue get the message to you personally.

And now they have made The Putty Rd. safer, why in God's name are you not
riding on the Putty!

Seriously now... When will the police realize that creating a strong police
presents in one location only creates a temporary shift of the target
population to some other location... net result?

Clearly the top brass coppers aren't burdened with the necessary intellect
to understand such operations... Still it must be a hoot legally racing
around in state owned vehicles, chasing people...

Australian Moto GP moves to beat tobacco ban

'Next year's Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will be brought forward
so that racing teams can carry cigarette advertising before it is
banned by the Victorian State Government.

There has been an exemption for tobacco sponsorship of grand prix
teams but that exemption ends next October.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation said the event was likely to be
held in late September rather than October, to beat the ban.

The corporation's Tim Bamford said the move was not surprising.

"We have a contract which we've had for many years which obliges us to
allow the teams to run with tobacco sponsorship," Mr Bamford said.

"The [Victorian] state government and the Federal Government
legislation allowing tobacco sponsorship expires in 2006 on October
first so I'm sure that would've been a factor in their consideration."'

True: Yellow bend indicators are advisory speeds only. They can't book
you for exceeding the posted advisory speed. But, they can just as
easily stick-it-to-you for infamous catch-all offences like "drive in a
manner dangerous", "Reckless Driving" or "Negligent Driving" if they
decide that your speed around that corner was excessive for the
conditions... Or they just don't like you.

Remember, a Negligent Driving offence is not just a traffic offence.
It's a criminal conviction.

http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/rtatma1999412/s42.html

---NSW LAW---
ROAD TRANSPORT (SAFETY AND TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT) ACT 1999 - SECT 42
Negligent, furious or reckless driving
42 Negligent, furious or reckless driving
(cf Traffic Act, s 4)

(1) A person must not drive a motor vehicle negligently on a road or
road related area.
Maximum penalty:
(a) if the driving occasions death-30 penalty units or imprisonment for
18 months or both (in the case of a first offence) or 50 penalty units
or imprisonment for 2 years or both (in the case of a second or
subsequent offence), or
(b) if the driving occasions grievous bodily harm-20 penalty units or
imprisonment for 9 months or both (in the case of a first offence) or 30
penalty units or imprisonment for 12 months or both (in the case of a
second or subsequent offence), or
(c) if the driving does not occasion death or grievous bodily harm-10
penalty units.

(2) A person must not drive a motor vehicle furiously, recklessly or at
a speed or in a manner dangerous to the public, on a road or road
related area.
Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units or imprisonment for 9 months or both
(in the case of a first offence) or 30 penalty units or imprisonment for
12 months or both (in the case of a second or subsequent offence).
---/NSW LAW---

If you're unlucky enough to get hit with one of these infringements (for
something as silly as going "fast" around a corner), DEFEND THE
CONVICTION!

Section 3 of the same Act grants consideration to the following
circumstances.

---NSW LAW---
ROAD TRANSPORT (SAFETY AND TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT) ACT 1999 - SECT 42
Negligent, furious or reckless driving
42 Negligent, furious or reckless driving
(cf Traffic Act, s 4)

(3) In considering whether an offence has been committed under this
section, the court is to have regard to all the circumstances of the
case, including the following:
(a) the nature, condition and use of the road or road related area on
which the offence is alleged to have been committed,
(b) the amount of traffic that actually is at the time, or which might
reasonably be expected to be, on the road or road related area.
---/NSW LAW---

Anyway, enough doom and gloom.

Firstly, my bike is just fine thanks.

However, a mate who just bought a K1 600 GSXR had the misfortune of the chain
snaping whilst riding the bike home from purchasing it privately. Resulting in
the chain smashing a hole in the water pump and shearing off one of the
waterpump mounts & bending the clutch actuator pin. Luckily the mount did not
break off though the engine casing, but it does need to be welded up and
machined, drilled tapped etc. As for the pin its a no brainer, buy a new one.
However can anyone recomend a repairer able to do this type of repair for the
engine casing/water pump?

Thanks

Greg.

The 04 model is the latest one out acording to the suzuki
site(www.suzuki.com.au), though their is no mention if it is a K4 or K5, though
it does have the K5 tail but not the K5 exhaust or mirrors. The 2004 model
though it to the 750 what the K5 is to the 1000. If I had the money I'd be on
a 04 750 and not a K1 750(2000). Test road the 04 bike and whoa, leaves my K1
looking like something from the 80's. Unfortunately my bank account also looks
like something from the 80's at the moment :-(. All the info on the link I put
up earlier is as best I can tell the latest bike out. So you can compare the
previous 750's on the same site. But basicaly the new 750 is lighter, more
powerfull, slightly lower and in all but a straight line quiker than the K4
1000.

Greg.

Thanks so much for the Suzuki Link, buuuuuuuuut.............hahahaha. I still
cant find what I am looking for!!!!! (i think im going to cry soon..........!!!)

There link doesnt seem to even indicate that suzuki made a GSXR750k5, even
though they did, So I am not sure how to compare it to the 2004 model, or is
that the point?

Should I be looking at the 2004 model and just assuming that is exactly the
same specs /looks everything else as the K5, and that is why they havent put in
info for the GSXR750K5?

Still what I am looking for is something/someone bascially to tell me (because
I am a girl and I dont care about mechanical things and in knowing how things
run........heheheh) What. if anything they have done to the k5 model compared to
the k4 model.

something like "the K5 model has shinier footpegs, bluer paint and rounder
wheels. compared to the k4 model, which only had plain footpegs, dull paint and
less round wheels"

is there anything or anybody who can explain to me in laymens terms what the
differences are? ( if there are any)

I PROMISE I tried to find all this stuff myself before posting
here.............!!!!! But it seems simple people like me shouldnt be using the
internet....................lol

   Thankyou!

   Brodie

James,

Only saw one (radar) car cruising on the way up.
No EPA and nothing on the way back.
