Peter Fields: Born in Auckland ,New Zealand, Peter
Fields has been diving
since the early 1960s.After a sojourn in South America
where he dived Cape
Horn and some interesting wrecks including the German
cruiser Dresden, he
moved to Sydney in 1978 and managed Moray Industries
for a time before
becoming Scubapro USA's Australian distributor during
the 1980s.

He was, for a time, a partner in Pacific Commercial
Diving Supplies before
selling out and becoming a "gentleman of leisure". His
earlier background
included running a flourishing commercial and retail
diving company and
working as an instructor and commercial diver. He
co-found the Sydney wreck
MYOLA in 1994 with John Riley. He still dives on a
regular weekly basis and
is passionate about shipwrecks.

David Strike: Born in the UK, David Strike’s earliest
memories are of diving
and divers. Entranced by the stories told to him by
his uncles - one a
commercial ‘hard hat’ diver, the other a Royal Navy
Clearance Diver - his
burning ambition was always to become a diver. His
formal entry into diving
began in 1961 when he joined the British Sub-Aqua
Club, followed two years
later by qualifying as a Royal Navy diver. During two
shipboard postings to
the Far East (‘64 -’65 and again in ‘68 - ‘69) he had
the opportunity to
dive many of the locations that have, today, become
popular diving
destinations. In 1966 he was posted to Malta, on
detached duty from the
Royal Navy, where he worked with Dr John Woods in
photographing and studying
Thermocline characteristics.

On leaving the R.N. he completed a refresher course at
the legendary,
Siebe-Gorman works before joining a consortium of
ex-military divers working
on the North Sea gas and oil platforms. During the
early seventies the
mortality rate among the North Sea offshore diving
community was reaching
alarming proportions. Following two ‘near misses’ -
and attracted by the
prospect of warmer waters - he and his family migrated
to Australia.

In 1974 he began teaching recreational diving and –
until recently – was a
former PADI, SSI Instructor Certifier and ANDI
Instructor. He continues to
dive regularly and is particularly fascinated by the
advent of ‘Technical
Diving’.

Today he and his wife live in Sydney where he writes
about all aspects of
diving and dive travel. A regular contributor to a
number of diving
publications, he is co-convenor – with Richard Taylor
– of the OZTeK Diving
Technologies Conference..

Clearance dive teams, how
their roles have changed, training, blowing stuff up,
mine clearance and
other operations etc. Will be showing off lots of
their gear, plus many more
bits and pieces.

As well as the Guest Speakers there will be Displays

At Operation Red Flag, the international training exercise for the air

flying of their careers. Red Flag is the final tune-up training for pilots
and their crews before being sent into actual combat. The object is to make
the exercises as real and challenging as possible -- to take the pilots,
ground crews, mechanics, rescue personnel, etc., to the limits of what they
can handle.

After special guest Wayne Clark attended the DeNiros function back in
August a number of people rang Stay Upright wanting to book in for
Cornering and Braking Course. Unfortunately at that time all Cornering
and Braking Courses were full for the rest of 2005 however due to
popular demand they have arranged another course.

When: Monday 19th December 2005 at Oran Park.
Time: 8:30am
Where: Oran Park
Cost: $360

Bookings can be made by ringing Stay Upright directly on 9679 1578.
Make sure you tell them that you are from BA as this course is yet to
be made available to the general public.

Cheers, Robyn.

Hi all,

I understand that Chris had a bad experience at Beaconsfield, however
I would like to report a positive encounter.

I had my TRX850 serviced there yesterday and the 42,000km service (+
20 min fitting a part bought elsewhere) came to the grand total of
$210! The bike feels great and I was shelling out less money than
usual. I'd go back to them again.

Cheers,

Glenn.

For 4 years I've been taking my bikes into BMS and have sworn by them.

My Girlfriend had her SV650 serviced there three months ago and the
clutch hasn't felt right since. A first it looked like the cable was
too tight and they loosened it off, when she got it home it still
felt dodgy, so I let it all the way out and it just seemed to work,
but not particularly well.

Last week she took it into some other guys who have it checked out,
the report is that BMS put the clutch back together incorrectly.

Not happy, won't be going back.

Chris

Thats a shame - it's the first bad reviews I've heard from BMS. Still, less
than Ive heard from the bigger workshops so I'll keep going back.

Sorry you had a bad experience guys.

I'm not convinced of its accuracy...
For example, it shows Berowra as being on the old northern road north of
Dural.
If you zoom in on where berowra should be it seems ok, but if you're zoomed
out a bit the 'other' Berowra is visible

Can any CCM Tunnel travellers verify this? - is there a traffic light near
the toll antenna? Or a TV screen or any form of display to indicate "toll
paid" ?
i.e. how do you know when your toll has been deducted from your E-tag?

Did anyone notice that in the SMH photo, the gantry doesn't appear to have
any "visual indicator"?

If there is no external visual indicator - we need to be sure about that -
an entire course of events may hang on this.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14: the most powerful and the fastest production
motorcycle in history

September 23, 2005 For several years now, the 178bhp Kawasaki ZX12 has had
the most horsepower of any production motorcycle, though it has played
second fiddle to the 175 bhp Suzuki GSX1300 Hayabusa (named after the
Japanese Peregrine falcon, one of the few animals on the planet which can
travel at 300km per hour which it does during a dive) because the Hayabusa
has a higher top speed - the Suzuki's aerodynamics enable it to more than
make up for the slight horsepower deficit and it has now held the title of
the world's fastest production motorcycle for six years since it launched.
The Hayabusa's top speed as measured by the Guiness Book of Records is 317
km/h. But Kawasaki's just announced ZX14 company flagship boasts 1400cc,
much slipperier aerodynamics and the most horsepower and highest top speed
of any production motorcycle EVER! The publicity conscious Kawasaki is
keeping mum on the exact figures but the rumours emanating from Japan
indicate we are just about to see the world's first 200bhp production
motorcycle. Full details inside.

A Friend of mine runs the Diveoz Website (www.diveoz.com) and one of the
things he does is runs a Charity night to raise money for a selected
Charity,
This year the night is on Saturday October 15th,and for just $15 It's your
chance to hear some guest speakers talk about what is either there job or
there Passion (sometimes both) Under the Water, he has guest speakers lined
up in the form of ....

David Ireland: David is a world renowned wildlife cameraman, film, video and
multimedia producer, with 25 years experience in filming everything from
lions and leopards to sharks and crocodiles. David Ireland is the "Original
Crocodile Man" playing the lead roll in the wildlife documentary "Crocodile
Man". David Ireland`s wildlife TV series is titled "Wildlife Adventures with
David Ireland" and is shown Australia wide on Channel Nine. The series is
shown in New Zealand on Prime TV and cable networks around the world. see
David`s website for details www.davidireland.com. David is a very
experienced wildlife cameraman both above and below water.
Talk Subject: Exotic sea creatures and more.

Peter Fields: Born in Auckland ,New Zealand, Peter Fields has been diving
since the early 1960s.After a sojourn in South America where he dived Cape
Horn and some interesting wrecks including the German cruiser Dresden, he
moved to Sydney in 1978 and managed Moray Industries for a time before
becoming Scubapro USA's Australian distributor during the 1980s.

He was, for a time, a partner in Pacific Commercial Diving Supplies before
selling out and becoming a "gentleman of leisure". His earlier background
included running a flourishing commercial and retail diving company and
working as an instructor and commercial diver. He co-found the Sydney wreck
MYOLA in 1994 with John Riley. He still dives on a regular weekly basis and
is passionate about shipwrecks.
Talk Subject: NSW Wrecks and diving the German Light Cruiser Dresden.

David Strike: Born in the UK, David Strike’s earliest memories are of diving
and divers. Entranced by the stories told to him by his uncles - one a
commercial ‘hard hat’ diver, the other a Royal Navy Clearance Diver - his
burning ambition was always to become a diver. His formal entry into diving
began in 1961 when he joined the British Sub-Aqua Club, followed two years
later by qualifying as a Royal Navy diver. During two shipboard postings to
the Far East (‘64 -’65 and again in ‘68 - ‘69) he had the opportunity to
dive many of the locations that have, today, become popular diving
destinations. In 1966 he was posted to Malta, on detached duty from the
Royal Navy, where he worked with Dr John Woods in photographing and studying
Thermocline characteristics.

On leaving the R.N. he completed a refresher course at the legendary,
Siebe-Gorman works before joining a consortium of ex-military divers working
on the North Sea gas and oil platforms. During the early seventies the
mortality rate among the North Sea offshore diving community was reaching
alarming proportions. Following two ‘near misses’ - and attracted by the
prospect of warmer waters - he and his family migrated to Australia.

In 1974 he began teaching recreational diving and – until recently – was a
former PADI, SSI Instructor Certifier and ANDI Instructor. He continues to
dive regularly and is particularly fascinated by the advent of ‘Technical
Diving’.

Today he and his wife live in Sydney where he writes about all aspects of
diving and dive travel. A regular contributor to a number of diving
publications, he is co-convenor – with Richard Taylor – of the OZTeK Diving
Technologies Conference..
Talk Subject: Bucketheads and Bubblies

Member of the Navy Clearance Diver Team 1
Talk Subject: History of the Australian Navies Clearance dive teams, how
their roles have changed, training, blowing stuff up, mine clearance and
other operations etc. Will be showing off lots of their gear, plus many more
bits and pieces.

As well as the Guest Speakers there will be Displays of various gear and the
results of a Diveoz Photo Competition will be shown, as I said - all this
for only $15
For more information about the Night and how to get your tickets go to

I dont think that is actually possible - to close a road to certain
types of vehicle for non engineering type reasons. Besides its
becaoming a car club favourite as well and its only a metter of time
before they become a bigger problem than bikes.
