Subject: [Mcc-delegates] press release 4- Canberra 2006

8-11-05 Canberra 2006 - A Memorable Experience

Riders from around Australia will descend on Canberra on Saturday, January
28

to draw public attention to the need for car drivers to be more aware of
motorcycles on Australia's roads. Thousands will join former Deputy Prime
Minister John Anderson, Speaker of the House of Representatives David Hawker
(on the Melbourne Ride) and other political and celebrity riders who are
calling on car drivers to look out for motorcyclists.

The main ride will assemble in Canberra at a road closure on the Federal
Highway from 11.30am. At 1pm the assembled throng will head off for a ride
through city streets to the lower grassed area of Federation Mall (near Old
Parliament House) for a public gathering and speeches.

A Little Bit of Motorcycling Magic

Organiser Bikers Australia has arranged to bring a little bit of
motorcycling magic to this awareness ride. Famous for its Brass Monkey Rally
on the outskirts of Lithgow in May each year, it plans to bring elements of
this rally to the grassy confine of Federation Mall so that there will be
heaps of fun, rally awards, water on sale and things to look at as well as
listen to the speeches.

"This will be a memorable experience to be part of the mass ride into the
heart of Canberra. Along with the important message of 'Look out for Bikes',
the excitement will continue as motorcyclists from all over Australia mingle
and check out the displays and trade stalls"

Noel Andrew, National President

Where to Join In

Riders are encouraged to obey local road rules as they head to Canberra
direct or join one of the informal rides organised by riders to join from
the North, West and South:

Melbourne : Leave Elizabeth St. at 10am Friday, January
27.Contact Damien Codognotto OAM
on 03 9846 8621 for more information.

Orange: Meet at 7.30am at Sam Laws Motorcycles to leave
at 8am
Saturday, January 28.

Sydney: Leave Uncle Leo's Roadhouse, Hume Hwy. The
Crossroads at
9.30am Saturday January 28.

Canberra: Leave 1pm Federal Highway Watson, Saturday,
January 28.

Sponsors and Supporters

Bikers Australia is appreciative that Harley Davidson has come on board as a
primary sponsor of Canberra 2006 and that the event is now supported by
Motorcycling Australia. Other sponsorship and support details are expected
be announced soon. Any and all profits from Canberra 2006 will be donated
to the Celebration of Australian Motorcycling for its ongoing motorcycle
awareness activities.

the details below.

We also heard about the R1 rider at RWC. Allegedly on a blue R1 with blue
leathers and a bumbag. Except this was reported by a guy who had just
arrived at the Café and claimed his mate had just been pulled over.

I guess there are only two groups of people who know for sure. The cops and
those that have been pulled over.

On topic, I also heard that motorcycle police are rated Cat 5 for pursuits,
which means they are not allowed to chase. I am not sure if this applies to
the R1/R6 cavalry but it is something to consider. Then again, our good
friends in HWP have been found to ignore most pursuit regulations anyway, so
why would the bikers be any different - especially those armed with sport
bikes.

Of course, if these cops are real riders they wouldn't book anyone for minor
offences. Just the stand out class clowns... at least that's what I'd do.

Hey Guys and Girls.

I have justy been told that there are two undercover road bikes
patroling the old road and the putty road.

1) Yamaha R6 blue and white bike, leathers and helmet. The only thing
you may notice is the bum bag with POLICE written on it.

2) Yamaha R1. at this stage this is suspected but unconfirmed.

This is from a guy here that is a regular at the road warrior cafe on
the old road. Not 100% sure its true but not worth the risk.

Good morning all

Your fine generosity continues. After raising over $800 on Sunday I'm happy to
say we raised a further $117 on last night's Sydney Knights ride to Avalon, not
to mention the other generous people that have donated without even buying
raffle tickets!

I remind you that raffle tickets are available up until Sunday afternoon 20
November, when the raffle will be drawn at the Girls Ride Out stand at the
Sydney Motorcycle Show.

Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5, which is amazing value for the prizes on offer.

Prizes are:
Arai Condor Helmet from MCA ($650)
Circuit Breakers Race School ($295)
Ixon Ladies Jacket from Action ($180)
MotoDry X-vent Jacket from Bikescape ($170)
10kg Block of Chocky from Cadbury Schweppes ($160)
1hr Harley Chauffeured Ride from Rolling Thunder ($110)
Hoyts Gift Voucher from Ducati Owners Club ($50)
4 x Ducati T-shirt from Frasers M/C ($40 each)
Gift Voucher from SilverHorse M/C Clothing ($30)
Ducati Hat from Frasers M/C ($20)

Tickets will be available at the GRO social dinner at the Newport Arms next
Saturday night (12 Nov), and at the Sydney Motorcycle Show. Feel free to
contact me by email (off forum) for other ticket availability.

Again, if you would like to make a separate donation please contact me directly
for banking details or event details.

Anne-Marie has now written this, which I include for those who have not read it:

"Back on 1 June this year, I made my first post on this site. The response was
phenomenal, the warmth and the willingness to share information was very
inspiring. As most of you know, things went pear shaped for me on my first and
only ride with the group, on 3 July. I have spoken to a number of GRO members
since my accident, but stopped regularly reading posts from the group, as I
found the continual reminder difficult to deal with.

I logged on today for the first time in a while. I can't tell you the feeling I
had when I saw the posts about the fundraisers on my behalf. They say you find
out who your friends are when something like this happens. I have more friends
than I would have ever imagined.

I'm finally getting out of rehab at the end of this week, and trying to take up
my life where I left off. While I'm still in a wheelchair, I am starting to walk
short distances with crutches, so the future is bright.

My association with GRO is not one I will ever regret, and I hope to be in a
position to reinvest in the group in the near future.

You girls continue to inspire."

Hi Chris,

This may or may not help...

There's a dude from WA working on a project to build a bike for a
paraplegic - not quite the same as a stroke but...you never know what
things may be adaptable for a stroke victim...

Anyways, here are the details: http://www.dreamfit.com.au/

Cheers,
Andrew

hi harry,

thanks for prompting me to post this message - BA are having a end of year track
day at the creek on saturday 17th december, those interested in participating
(and booking themselves in!) should put their names down on a database that i
have created:

http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/bikers_anon/database

people wanting to go, put your names down (so we can get an idea of how many
club members would be going), do so at the above link, but you need to take care
of your own booking with the EC ride day people.

i have had a few words with the eastern creek ride day people in regard to group
discounts and the gist has been "no group discount", so in a nutshell, you pay
what they want you to pay. they do have a plan where you book so many days in a
year and you get a day free, i think it is six days or something like that.

www.easterncreekridedays.com.au

check the calendar, it will have the prices on it.

harry, hope you and your mob will join us!

bad about missing the ride, & I'm nearly up & running

I'd like to start by saying a HUGE thankyou to all riders who
attended yesterday's charity ride to Wollombi. It was fantastic to
see so many bikers pull together for a fellow rider in need.

Second HUGE thankyou goes to those who couldn't make the ride but
generously donated or bought raffle tickets from us at Road
Warriors.

Greg, Selena, Trish and Kel - thanks so much for taking such
wonderful care of our learner riders. You guys are the BEST!!!

There are some fantastic prizes up for grabs in the raffle - a
Harley tour, motorcycle jackets, an Arai Helmet (Condor), t-shirts,
a 10kg block of Cadbury chocolate... Yes, 10kg... Mmmmm,
chocccoooolatttte. There's lots more too but due to staying up and
watching the MotoGP, my brain's a little foggy this morning...

We'll be continuing to sell tickets at the GRO stand during the
Sydney Motorcycle Show and will be drawing the raffle on the last
day of the show.

Finally, I'd like to thank Oby for giving me somewhere to place my
precious little Princess bottom... For those of you who have no
idea what I'm talking about, it's a loooooong story...

Cheers
Karla

Thought i'd put down a few words about the fun i had today on being a
Motorcycle Marshall on the Gong bike ride today.. I was (luckily) on sector
"D" which was from Waterfall to Bald Hill.. 11 marshalls in all on the
sector and we had to lead groups of pushies down the twisty bits so they
arrived in one piece.... Only one accident all day with an older guy going
to feel very sore tomorrow, but keeping the faster pushies behind was a
challenge lol.. I recon the Yoshi pipe kept most back from the noise... I
can recommend this for anyone who's willing to give up half a day for a good
cause next year... Even get to have police wave at you and only telling you
its way too loud lol

Bikers Australia will be helping this company promote this Movie next year..
be ready for it!

"The World's Fastest Indian" starring Anthony Hopkins as Burt Munro, the
famous New Zealander to set a still uncontested land speed world record in
1968 with his modified bike, an Indian Scout. The film will be released
nation wide April 6 2006. We will be holding a series of free preview
screenings in February.

You can find out more about the film and watch the trailer at
www.worldsfastestindian.com <http://www.worldsfastestindian.com/>

The World's Fastest Indian is a gorgeous feel good movie set in New Zealand
and at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. It's an inspiring true story about
a man, his bike and his dream to see how fast she can go.

Can't wait til April !!

Bikechat History lesson,

Bikechat was created to allow neka (hi neka) to have somewhere to post
because back in the early, earthy days of BA some of the influential
Flanders types believed he was consuming too many giggabots of peoples
time and hard drive space and as a consequence of his actions was
going
to be banned from BA unless he reduced his duty cycle.

neka had a lot to say back then, so a reduction in output was not
possible.

A petition to "save neka" from BA deletion was raised by the common
riders and thrust before the newly elected, young and somewhat
conservative comity, there was no choice, a new portal was created and
it was named Bikechat.

Unfortunately neka didn't have much to say after that, so thing have
been quiet for a while......

Hi all,

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'll be growin a Mo.
That's right I'm putting the Mo back on the face of Australian fashion for a
great cause and I need your support.

Movember is a new charity event that raises awareness about male health issues
and money for research into Prostate Cancer. Did you know...

Men are twice as likely to die from cancer than women.
Every year in Australia 2600 men die of prostate cancer – more than the
number of women who die from breast cancer annually.
Around 10,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in Australian men
every year.

To sponsor my Mo please go to www.movember.com.au/sponsor_mo.jsp, enter my Rego
number which is 845 and your credit card details. Proceeds go to the Prostate
Cancer Foundation of Australia to further research into Prostate Cancer.
Donations of more than $2 are tax deductible.

Movember culminates at the end of the month at the Gala Partè where I'll be
parading my Mo on the cat walk for a chance to be crowned the Man of Movember.
If you want to be part of this great night a $30 sponsorship gets you free
entry. All the ticket and gala details are at the Movember website.

Please give so that my Mo may grow!!

More info is available at www.movember.com.au.

Please pass this onto as many people as you can as this is a great cause.

I will be sending progress photos at the start of each week for all you out
there to have a laugh over.

Cheers,

damian waddell

Polarized lenses also play havoc with reading my LCD bike computer.

Acquired a nice contrasty pair of Serengeti's off Ebay. Let lots of
the right light in :-) Contrast improvement is great...improves
perspective/distance judgement.

This Thursday will be our last appearance at Woolwich Pier Hotel for
the year. December's dinner will be missed so we can all save some
strength for the xmas party. Speaking of which, make sure you book for
that crazy event.

So, if you're looking for a dinner and drinks amongst friends, join us
this Thursday at WPH from 7pm.
