Yeah that's the jist of it, so long as the patient(for want of a better word)
hasn't declined help then you cant be sued for performing 1st aid(unconscious =
implied consent), and as the basics are life over limb so that means keeping
them alive takes priority over protecting their spine or any other part of the
body for that matter.

Fantastic I have never heard of this device for giving EAR with the helmet on.
I will have to do some research on that one..your mention of the good Samaritan
rule is what I was getting at.........I cant imagine anyone getting sued for
trying to do something, as you say as long as it is basic life saving measures
like CPR, or splinting a fracture etc....I wonder though if someone was to
remove a helmet in order to protect an airway and perform EAR, but in the
process cause irreversible spinal column damage........What would be the outcome
then? again I think like you say, as long as it is an honest mistake and the
airway was threatened, then it is A for Airway first and D for Disability (C
Spine immobilisation) last.

Hey guys
I finished up yesterday on my recent job. All the needed papers are
granteed this week and i can start my new job on monday. I am still on
a temperary working visa but the signs are looking better then ever
that the permanent one is only a year away. I would like to thank
everybody for the support in the last weeks/month. I also would like
to thank Seebreeze Kitchen in Brookvale which were so kind and gave me
the needed sponsor ship.

Leaving the past month of unhappiness behind me, I will be on the
Wisemann Ferry ride on Sunday with a very big smile on my face. So
come along and see that smile.

Thanks a lot
Andreas

Lindy, according to my last re sit for my first aid certification. The Good
Samaritan laws in NSW protect you legally from any honest mistake that may be
made when administering first aid so long as you are not trying to do something
beyond your level of training. And under the same guise, a senior first aider
has rank over a basic first aider(basic trauma management module). I do believe
the basic course is only taught to under 14yo's these days, thus the police
should have a senior ticket or higher. And given the number of police doing the
same re sit I did last year this would seem to be the case.

On a similar note as well, EAR/CPR can be performed with the helmet still on by
using a motorcycle specific pocket mask that's designed to fit behind the chin
bar. But it does make clearing the airway difficult at best.

Greg.

was gonna mention the helmet thingie...spinal immobilisation is important
but airway always comes first......two people can usually safely remove a
helmet and get an airway/do CPR etc...without disturbing the C-Spine......if
   they are careful!

Damn shame about that bloke up the old road but it happens everywhere,
people have no idea what to do so they do nothing! If someone is Blue and
not responding/talking to you, then HELLO!!! give them some basic first aid!
I would hope no coroner would find a novice bystander in the wrong for
trying to resuscitate a roadside victim, in the eyes of the law we are
judged on what a reasonable person with our level of training would do....a
reasonable police officer would be trained in Basic First Aide therefore it
would be reasonable to assume he would know the first aide basics of airway
before spinal immobilisation. I hope the coroner looks into that one also.

   Lindy

How about you ask your pillion to jump on the back of K6_Dave's bike for a
spin... They'll fill their dax with a squishy substance... and never
complain about your pillion seat being uncomfortable again.

Time to prod this to the fore again.

ALternatives to dedicated GPS units are bluetooth receiver and an
existing PDA or even smartphone.

Symbian OS phone users (eg Nokia 6260 or N-series) can use SMARTCOM
GPS. http://www.wild-mobile.com/eng/news.php. Bulletproof and mature
software. Integrates with SMS-phone features for sending/receiving
position data...not sure why Id want it but it works. eg. Send a
password coded SMS to another phone, receive back position data that
auto maps the location.

Maps are freely available, identical to UBD/Gregorys/Whereis, plus
NRMA touring maps, plus calibrating paper or PDF maps is a dawdle,
eg my cartoscope converted PDF.s

So GPS'ing may be cheaper to get going than you thought if you have
an existing phone or PDA.

The current receivers (SIRfiii CHIPSETS) are very sensitive compared
with 12-18 months ago. Eg Holux GPSLim236 works in a bag in city
canyons. Orders of magnitude more sensitive than previous Sirfiie
chipset.

1gig card can be loaded up to cover all of sydney, all NSW country
towns, Melbourne, all of Vic, Vic towns, all NSW street names .

Lack of training certainly didn't help a rider up Old Road a few
months back.

Out of control car took him out, cop arrived on scene, directed
attending riders NOT to remove his helmet, ambulances on way
etc. "But he is not breathing!"....going blue...."Don;t remove the
helmet...."..

At least one cop needs to revise order of priorities.

The rider died, one of the attending riders was his brother...
There's one police directive I would have ignored. Really hope the
COroner had a good look at that one.

Ride safe.

Hi all,

Just a reminder about the next De Niro's dinner on 6th April. We have a guest
speaker lined up and it looks to be a very informative night with John Walker,
who is an avid motorcycling enthusiast, giving us some insights into behavioural
science. Discussions will cover perceptions, false beliefs, mental conditioning
amongst others with examples from policing and motorcycling, being drawn from
his experience working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Only $20 for all the Italian you can eat!

See you there.

We use JT sprockets and RK chains here at work. We've never had a
problem and they're what ive got on my GSXR1000. All the major
brands are good.

Not regulalry lubing and adjusting your chain will ruin even the
best chain and sprockets very quickly.

Most people have a camera in their phone so pic the car and post in
the albums along with all the other Stealth Cop Cars.

As a Motorcyclist, a cheap-skate and someone with some paperwork saying im
an Engineer, I was looking for a set of plans for one of the Metal
Garage's that everyone seems to be selling nowadays.

So if anyone out there has (in the past) bought one of these kits and
still has the plans / instructions.. Id love to hear from you... Maybe it
will end up just buying a ready made kit ??!!!

Cheers

Phil

Not that i've tried. But i'd expect operating a radar effectively in
the back seat of any vehicle, whilst wearing a seatbelt, would be
rather difficult. I would have been interested to see if our friend
was wearing a seat belt... or is highway patrol exempt?

Most probable find its a "times in motion study" and the poor gal was
checking how fast Officer Dibble could run across the road to get
fresh supplies of doughnuts and coffee.....
