Looking for a cheap learner bike for a friend.

Can spend up to about $3500, no cruisers, no chookies.

He's mad keen on VTR250's (or v-twins in general) but they're hard to
   find in that price range.

Cosmetics aren't particularly important, neither is amount of rego (or
any rego at all, with the appropriate price adjustments)

Should be SAFE and ROADWORTHY or be able to be brought up to a safe and
roadworthy status without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

Do you have one? Know somebody who does? Seen one somewhere?

   Thanks,

Hello to members.

I am currently organising the Foster Dive weekend. The above dates
are proposed.

Last time we headed down on the Friday, staying at the Foster Motor
Inn (with pool and walking distance to beach and town). After parking
our bikes (under cover and below the rooms) and sorting out
accomodation, a few of us managed a swim in the motel pool, before a
number of warm up beers were enjoyed. Soon after we enjoyed? dinner
at a local resturant (a few stories there). A number of us partied on
into the wee hours, managing a stroll to the beach and an improptu
skinny dip (optional).

The next day......umm oh yeah we went diving. Note: previous nights
drinking to excess no recommended and not officially condoned by BA
management. Most people went on a single dive, however others did
two. There were sharks and turtles, along with many fish varieties.

After the dive we had a BBQ at the whalf and some managed a paddle
over to a neighbouring island on a surf ski. However most just lay
around in the sun/shade chatting and mostly recovering from the night
before.

Later a final swim before the ride home. Some fantastic roads! It was
a bit of a blur, so I will have to rely on Chris for the details on
the actual route taken.

Some also stayed a further night at the motel.

There are a few options available and they will be discussed in a
further posting. There are also options to dive on the Friday, so
that we can party on that night and not feel so bad diving the next
morning. Depends on the timing, as it is a long ride down. Also
depends on whether people want to make a weekend of it and stay till
Sunday morning.

Dive centre details:
http://www.forsterdivecentre.com.au/

Accommodation is based on a twin share option at the Foster Motor Inn
at $50 twin share, so thats $25 per person for the matamatically
challenged. Thats also cheaper than the local YHA.

http://www.traveldownunder.com.au/New_South_Wales/North_Coast/Forster_
Motor_Inn.asp

Dive costs and details to follow.

Please add yourself to the database. Once we find out who are
experienced/licenced and who are beginners, we can get a better idea
of numbers and requirments etc.

Well that's it for now and I will keep you updated.

Regard
Doug aka Dogarse

OH and most importantly its my birthday on the 23rd of March.

When Ducati frist bough the good old 916 in they got pinged on the head
lights while trying to pass the ADR's

The ADR's required that the headlight closest to the center of the road
way must be the low beam. as the bikes where coming from a lefthand drive
country the low beams light was on the outside here (but closelest to center
line for the LHD countries).

Ducati had to make make new lens and other mods to get the 916 in to
Australia.

I feel you will have similar issues trying to bring one back into the
country.

Shaun

Yes - I mean Mike... not sure that after only one crash he really
deserves the title over Doug, but realistically Dog should probably
take the title "directionally challenged boy" as his crashes seem to
result in his inability to know whether he's going into a left or
right hander... (sorry dude - but the comments between you and Shannon
were hilarious)...

We are bikers, we are tough.

Your "16 degrees" sounds very comfortably warm compared to a rainy
winter's night through a valley with 100km/h of wind chill.

Well actually the water was a bit cool two weeks ago, but last week at shelly
beach it was 22c on the surface and 20c at 10 metres. I know this because my
three computers I had on all told me the smae thing.

Can't help myself here.....something about the water being warm.

Had the pleasure of being in the water within the last week, and unless my dive
computer is broken I distinctly remember it telling me 16 degree C on the
surface and 14 degree C at a depth of 10m. I do kow the water is at last
warming up, but the last time I had water temps like this was a little over
three years ago with the last blue current.

Though newbie divers don't let this put you off, with colder water often you do
get better visibility, so all the more for you to see.

Cheers,
J.

BROTHERS IN ARMS
2006-2007 Summer Blood Challenge

Please forward this important email on to your friends, families and co-workers
to get them involved in the Summer Blood Challenge

Dear BAers,

The December and January results of the 2006/7 Summer Blood Challenge are now in
and the motorcyclists are still in the lead.
The tally now stands at:
1. Motorcyclists 676
2. Police 632

The motorcyclists and police have banded together as Brothers in Arms, and have
generated a total of 1308 donations in the first two months of the Challenge. As
each blood donation can help save 3 lives, this means that this year's Challenge
so far has potentially helped 3924 lives.

There has been an outstanding response to the Challenge from all donors to this
year's Challenge, particularly in Orange where the donor centre has seen 238
donations made in the name of the Summer Blood Challenge so far.

The top five regions for donations for each team are:
POLICE MOTORCYCLISTS
1. Orange 1141. Orange 124
2. Goulburn942. Wollongong 96
3. Parramatta673. Parramatta 64
4. Sydney CBD 524. Western Sydney Donormobile 58
5. Wollongong 495. Canberra 42

Rally your friends, family and co-workers together as they can donate for the
motorcyclists or the police and be part of the Summer Blood Challenge also.
There is just one month left of the Challenge and the Motorcyclists are in front
by just 44 donations. So get behind your side and give blood this February, to
help your side take out the 2006/7 Summer Blood Challenge.
To find your nearest donor centre please click here

It takes someone special to give blood.

Please call 13 14 95 to make an appointment.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

If nobody else has taken on the role of organising this weekend dive trip I am
happy to do so, somebody just let me know and i'll get it done. Some potential
dates as well.

For those certified divers who think they need a refresher before we go please
give me a call and we can do that. Any non divers who think they would like to
learn before this trip so you can participate on the dives i'm sure we can get a
open water course done for you if you are keen. Another option is to do a scuba
diver course which is basically half the open water course which then qualifies
you to dive with a dive professional (divemaster or instructor). I am diving
just about every weekend and the water is warm at the moment. A reminder that
all level of dive training is available to those that wish to continue there
dive education. My phone number is below, please feel free to contact me.

13TH ANNUAL SILVERWATER STREET AND CUSTOM MOTORCYCLE SHOW The 13th
Annual Silverwater Street and Custom Motorcycle Show will be held at
Silverwater Park, Clyde St. Silverwater near Sydney's Olympic Park this
coming Saturday, February 3 commencing at 12 noon.

This family friendly show welcomes everyone to participate by either
attending or entering a bike in competition.
Yamaha Motor Australia, along with Shannon's Insurance and Fraser
Motorcycles will again be one of the prime supporters of this event.

As usual there will be plenty of trophies, door prizes, live music and
kids' entertainment. To make it more interesting the cash prize for best
bike will be increased to $300 with another $200 for other major
categories and $100 for the best club display.
Federal Defence Minister and avid motorcyclist Dr. Brendan Nelson will
be a special guest at show. Dr. Nelson has agreed to be a guest judge
and will take time to look around at this years' offering of competition
bikes.

He will also share some of his riding experiences with the crowd,
including his reflections on the highly successful National Motorcycle
Awareness Ride organised by Bikers Australia and held in Canberra one
year ago.

Off street motorcycle parking is provided. All bike competition entrants
will receive a framed photo/entry form of their bike to keep and the
first 40 will receive a free event t-shirt.

Competition entry is $25 and general entry is $20 (family and pension
card concessions apply).
