Hi guys, I've had my L's since May & my bike since July? I think? and
want to get a service done before rego's due November. Can anyone
recommend a reliable, reputable & reasonably priced mechanic? Somewhere
around the Parramatta area would be ideal but Sydney City or even
Kensington area would suffice. See you all on the road:)

[EDITORIAL]

  Jacques Compagne<http://www.acembike.org/invitation2/images/jacques.jpg>

Dear Reader,

the European Mobility Week has been a highlight for all those interested to
tackle the challenges of urban congestion. With this event the European
Commission inaugurated a busy season of initiatives that will eventually peak
with the publication of the Action Plan on Urban Mobility.

ACEM was involved in several events within the framework of the European
Mobility Week showing that motorcycles and scooters are recognized as playing an
important role in everyday mobility in our cities. This is confirmed by our
market figures.

But it's not all. On October 13th, ACEM will launch a European-wide safety
campaign renewing the Motorcycle Industry's commitment to the European Road
Safety Charter. Paris will host the European Road Safety Day featuring many road
safety initiatives by all stakeholders. We hope to stand out with a smart and
intriguing campaign that will appeal to all PTW users.

Do not forget to mark the 1st of December on your calendar for ACEM's 5th Annual
Conference in Brussels and enjoy the read!

Jacques Compagne
Acem Secretary General

[IN BRIEF]

Moto Guzzi merges into Piaggio. Piaggio's and Moto Guzzi's Boards of Directors
agreed on the upstream merger of Moto Guzzi into and with Piaggio. This
procedure will create a single global competitor on the PTW market in terms of
size and resources, in part by leveraging significant industrial, commercial and
financial synergies. Specifically, while the distinguishing characteristics of
the Moto Guzzi brand will remain intact, the merger will allow significant
economies of scale by rationalising the two companies' technical, industrial,
design and style operations. The merger will have no effects on either the
composition of Piaggio or its controlling structure, similarly, no changes will
be made to the Piaggio by-laws. <http://gm-link.com/tm_image.asp?c=43969&u=>

Action Plan on Urban Mobility delayed. Commission Director General for Transport
Matthias Ruete recently noted that, the action plan is now likely to come out
only at the beginning of next year. He also stressed there would be no
legislative measures and that the EU had just "a small role" to play in terms of
mobility. The main elements of the action plan will be Intelligent Transport
Systems, interoperability and the definition of harmonised rules for green
zones. Having carried out a broad consultation on this Urban Transport Green
Paper, the Commission was due to present a follow-up action plan by October this
year.

7th International Motorcycle Conference. On October 6 and 7 in Cologne the IFZ
will host the 7th International Motorcycle Conference in Cologne. Subjects will
include accident analyses, riding and rider's education, vehicle and driver's
equipment as well as the state of the art in technology and research.
Environmental compatibility and perspectives for safe mobility on two wheels
complemented the broad based topic. The conference will be attended by
scientists, researchers, practitioners, politicians, employees of administrative
bodies and authorities as well as representatives of the motorcycle industry.

It started out as a perfect sunny day with over 15 keen riders - all
systems go except for the broken down cisterns at the meeting place and
the next service station so typically I got lost before we even
started! (PS - We really need to change the meeting place at McGraths
Hill - even the service station manager was not keen on so many riders
at his station!) Eventually we all caught up and we rode on those
awesome roads to Oberon and Tarana for a slow long lunch. The wind
made the travelling a little tricky at times but overall a nice Sunday
out - thanks to all who rode and to Bill for leading the pack.

Thats cold pressure, the hot pressure will depend on how hot they
get,

which will be determined by how you ride.

*MEDIA RELEASE*

Signatures are being collected on two petitions calling on the Victorian
Government to abolish the unfair and discriminatory $56 a year Transport
Accident Commission antibike tax.

The TAC tax was introduced without proper consultation with stakeholders
and it makes a real safety budget for motorcycle & scooter riders, as
for other modes of transport, unlikely. So it's bad for road safety.

The TAC tax is hidden in registration and insurance road charges for
motorcycles & scooters in Victoria and it's indexed to rise with each
state budget. If the tax was something to be proud of, why hide it?

There are two petitions. One is online. One is hard copy. In Victoria a
hard copy petition carries more weight with the Parliament than an
electronic petition but both are useful. For a copy of the paper
petition, free of charge, please email:

Dear All

Just a reminder that the Pink Ribbon Ride is on Sunday, 19 October.
This is a link to our website
http://www.pinkribbonride.com/NSW/index.htm. We know some of you are
coming on our Ride but haven't yet registered. We'd really like you to
register before the day to save queueing on the day.

Registration and sponsor forms can be downloaded. The first 450
registrations will receive one of our badges. The website also has
information on new merchandise items such as neck coolers and socks.

We are very happy to announce that Lord Animal, OAM, has accepted our
invitation to be our guest on the day. He will cut the ribbon to see
the riders on their way. Animal has been one of our most ardent
supporters. Can't wait to see the Kings X Bikers' theme for this year.

Regards
Lynn Muir

Hi all,
I'm very curious as to find out about a cafe called the "Stone
Cottage".
Wondering if any one knows it and how to get there from the Wisemans
Inn, as I'll be on the GRO ride to Wisemans Ferry on 5th Oct 08, I got
told that some riders went along Pitt Town Rd, but nothing is giving
me enough info as I'm not familar with the area from Wisemans Inn.

I want to go there as we usually get to Wisemans Inn too early so I
thought I'd go for a ride to this cafe and have lunch there.

I really appreicate any info.

We have 8 Corporate Tickets to the Oz GP next week which
cost $890. They are superfluous to our needs and we need to get rid of them.
So we are offering them to any Members of your Clubs at $700. We also have
three beds left right in the middle of Cowes for 4 nights. Please let me
know if anyone is interested.

  Rob Colligan

Thanks to all the riders for making me feel welcome on the sunday ride
to wisemens. I enjoyed meeting you all and I look fwd to taking a few
more corners with you (or for some of you, looking at your rear tyre
merge with the horizon) in the near future. A very good group to be a
part of.

Thanks

I saw you as you cruised past at Spencer but you were looking the
other way (at the bikes) and got back on the throttle before we could
get your attention.
