Even tho I wasn't riding with BA on Sunday, It was great to see such a
huge gang turn up at the Halfway House...

I got so caught up with (very unscientifically) testing peoples pipes
with my dB meter, that I missed leaving with the Yamaha Tribe! Not that
it mattered much, it just meant that I had the whole twisty mountain
section to myself until I met up with them at the Broke intersection ;)

And what about that perfect weather!

Thanks Gang for a great ride, must have been close to 40 bikes at
the Mobil Servo when we left? a bit cool to start with but as the
corners got tighter (and the road bumpier)and with the day warming
up as well the cold soon dissapeared as fast as Ange tried to on her
Across, first stop at the Halfway Truck stop we got to see Chris
trying out for his Cirque Du Soleil act as he climbed the sign to
get some photos then it was off for Wollombi and Bike Nirvana ...
although I hope in Nirvana you don't have to queue like that for
food! a nice relaxing time and a good natter there, then off to
Mount White for a coffee and a short stop before returning to the
madness of Sydney.
Once again, thanks all, I had a ball!
I'm going to try to add a couple of pictures to the site

Subject: COMPULSORY FRONT ID IN WA? [long]

This isn't spam. It's about compulsory front ID for motorbikes & scooters in
West Australia. Not interested, delete now. If you want off my email list
please say so. If you think this info is important, pass it on.
**************************************************

May 27, 2004. - 11.40 pm aprox. Radio 3 LO. Tomorrows News Today. May 28,
2004. - Mid morning. Radio 3 LO. John Fain Show. The West Australian
Newspaper (?).

According to ABC Radio in Melbourne on Thursday night, Friday's West
Australian newspaper would carry a story on two-wheel hoons terrorizing the
good folk of Perth. Outraged officials called for restrictions and
countermeasures including front number plates or stickers. The issue was
discussed on John Fain's 3 LO show Friday morning but I only heard bits and
pieces of that.

Apparently the boy racers have been playing up in Perth of late. Very public
monos, burnouts and high speed runs through speed camera sites are
embarrassing police and giving authorities excuses to crackdown on the
motorcycle community in general. This could have major implications for
riders OZ wide.

It's obvious that the thrill seekers doing the illegal stunts are a very
small percentage of WA bike licence holders (if they've got licences) but
that won't stop police blitzing all of us. It's been well-publicised in
recent years, that some WA police are antagonistic to motorcyclists in
general and have a mania about patch clubs.

That WA speed cameras face the wrong way is a thing they knew about before
they set up the speed traps. That the WA Police didn't know of the
continuing controversy over tolling and fining systems in Victoria is not
credible. Perhaps they had their heads in western desert sands? Or, could it
be a ploy to vilify riders and slip in some more restrictive legislation?

Toll road equipment and fixed speed cameras in Vic face the front of the
vehicle. This was deliberate. They wanted to capture the driver's face as
often as possible with the number plate. Fewer disputes, more tolls, big
brother. But they "forgot" bikes. Petty cash to them but it's the loss of
corporate face. And if you want to sell the technology to Asian cities with
huge motorbike & scooter populations you must have a front ID system for
bikes.

Did the system really forget? Did they not have an ID/tracking device on the
drawing board when toll roads and fixed speed cameras crept into our
society? Was there always an intention to bully the motorcycle community
into an experiment with compulsory, high-tech front ID?

Many Vic riders feel the front ID issue is more about control & revenue than
safety. WA is getting a re-run of the Vic scenario. Lots of anti-bike
propaganda. Exaggerate a problem. Then ponce about proposing restrictive
laws and taxes to save the bikies from themselves. Career-significant moves
for some.

Again the calls for the introduction of front number plates or stickers that
obviously won't work. One WA official said that there were difficulties with
actual number plates and even stickers but that WA authorities were looking
at more technical ways of identifying motorcycles. He is reported to have
said that WA was waiting for the results from testing such a device in Vic.
Compulsory front ID for motorbikes & scooters.

In 2000 the Vic Government launched its' "Arrive Alive" policy. The bike
section was written mainly by Police, TAC and VicRoads with little or no
stakeholder input even through the Victorian Motorcycle Advisory Council
(VMAC). Arrive Alive called for compulsory front ID for people on two
wheels.

On April 14, 2002, in Melbourne's Sunday Herald Sun, Assistant Commissioner
Bob Hastings was reported saying "Victoria Police wanted front number plates
to be reintroduced. ... With the absence of front identification of
motorbikes there were also concerns about being able to track people who
used their motorbikes in crimes ... "

Then the Vic police PR unit released a ten-year-old, faked photo of a rider
giving a speed camera the finger supposedly at 179 kph. Impossible. This
anti-bike propaganda was run in the Sunday Herald Sun on June 20, 2002. It
made the ABC's Media Watch. The program pointed out that the Vic Police must
have known they used the same picture for the same reason nearly a decade
before.

There was great upset in Vic over the front number plates (FNP) issue. Tax
dollars spent on research to find technology that would ID motorbikes from
the front. Would the technology be trackable like a mobile phone? Who would
have access to the tracking data? COMPULSORY ID/tracking devices present
major civil liberties and privacy issues. Because the system targets a
minority group of road users, there are also issues of discrimination to
consider.

Only 3, perhaps 4, countries on earth have FNP laws. These generally don't
have the same respect for individuals rights as we supposedly do here in OZ.
No company I know of manufactures motorbikes or scooters with facility for a
front number plate or sticker. But the zeal of some public servants in the
crusade to protect and control is extraordinary. For a relatively small
cost, passed on to riders with annual registration fees, the system gets a
marginal increase in cash flow through tolls and fines, and, much greater
control over a nuisance minority. Lead the world! A career significant move
indeed.

I have no problem with the VOLUNTARY use of high-tech devices, like global
positioning units, by riders provided they have the right to switch the
machine on or off like a mobile phone. COMPULSORY front ID laws for two
wheelers are a threat to the Australian motorcycle community and to our
various lifestyles. The only way I could even contemplate this kind of ID
system would be if ID/tracking devices were made compulsory for ALL road
vehicles, including bicycles. Even then I think I'd oppose it.

West Australian motorbike and scooter riders should support their local
Motorcycle Riders Association. www.mrawa.asn.au .

Hi everyone

Had a fantabulous time on Sunday, my first BA ride was great! My left
hand was a wreck after all the gear changes to wring every last bit
out of my poor Across (and keep up!) :)

Apologies to anyone that was behind me, I realised this morning my
right rear indicator was out (I am a considerare indicator usually),
so I am off to get it fixed now.

That was a great ride, have to do that one again in the not too
distant future ... a little cool to start but warmed up.

Who could believe the wait for food, I almost offered to help out in
the kitchen, at least until my food was ready :o)

I won't be attending any rides for a little while as I am going to
have my sinus cut open, but once I recover will be looking forward
to creating havoc on the streets.

Cheers

started having electrical probs (BA mothers day ride was a b***h),
anyway, I contacted my dealer and Suzuki Australia re: a fault with

Hi all,
Just a quick note of praise for my dealership. I bought a GSX-R in
Nov 01 and it has been fantastic, until about a month ago when I
started having electrical probs (BA mothers day ride was a b***h),
anyway, I contacted my dealer and Suzuki Australia re: a fault with
my Stator (battery charging device in simple terms) and they have
come to the party and agreed to replace it free of charge - NOTE:
the bike is 6 months OUT OF WARRANTY. I have been a good customer
and they have rewarded me accordingly so anyone looking to buy a
Suzuki of anykind don't go past Matt Mladin M/C Narellan NSW.
PS: the new Gixxer 750 looks awesome..mmmmm... somebody stop me!!!.
Doug.
