Can anyone from the motorcycle council clarify a persons rights with
reguards to unmarked police vehicles.I have noticed in the media that
the police want to use more of them. The council for civil liberties
have stated that the use of these vehicles is not real kosher.I have
noticed at least 4 unmarked vehicles booking people on the M4 in the
last month.Id just like to know where i stand incase im ever
entrapped by our wonderful police farce??????????

Hughsy,

Speaking for myself, as one of the 'last-minute bail outs' I don't
have a problem paying you the $40. Just tell me how and I will.
Does BA have an account? Or else, perhaps on the mid-month GRO ride
if anyone from BA is going on that, I could give the money to them.

Cheers,
Marie

Just been up to MAW and Gregs team came 1st in their class and 8th

Apparently classes are based on highest graded rider and bike class.

Hi all

Firstly thank you to the 18 or so members who attended, for the great
company and friendship, i'm sure i speak for all in saying that we
enjoyed an incident free fantastic 3 days away.

Special thanks to Jaime (Sleepy) for the best ever camp tucker, whole
lamb on a spit Sat night, beautiful beef roast Sunday with every
extra you could think of.

To Kath and Lou who kept the washing up under control and every one
who helped out with all the other little jobs, thanks again.

Well the photo's tell the story (thanks to all the photographers),
other than a brief shower on the ride down and a few showers Saturday
arvo and one showery squall Sun arvo, every one got their tents
pitched and packed away dry, the weather was kind given the prelude
of Friday last.

How good was Jimmy on Sunday eh ? He said to me after the gig "it was
a pleasure to play to an engrossed audience and not have to compete
with the din of a city venue, i just played for 3 hours and it felt
like ten minutes". Bathed in stars and moonlight, the sound of
croaking frogs in the background, the clear and engaging tones of a
Maton acoustic guitar and Jim's vocals rang out across the mirror
still lake and just filled the valley, it was one of those evenings
and atmospheres you remember for a lifetime.

Yes we will do another camping weekend sometime, and with any dodgy
weather scenario, we will always offer the option of coming by car,
I'm not so sure a long weekend in the middle of school holidays is
the best timing though.

On a more sombre note, I feel compelled to comment re the bail outs
at the last minute. The consistent quailty of these weekends away,
which are always inexpensive individually, demand your commitment as
well as significant financial resources in line with final numbers
that close off 5 days prior to the day of departure. I must admit, it
doesn't fill me with alot of confidence or enthusiasm for the future
when i now have to collect the balance of committed funds after an
event to break even at cost.

Again my sincere thanks to all.

Hughsy

There is a "must see" Movie being shown at Monkey Bar this Wednesday
evening.

The movie has a lot to do with going "Quicker" on those neat things
we all like (read between the lines people...)

"If you miss this one your a goose..."

Time: Movie starts at 8pm sharp.
Best get there before that time say 7 - 7:30 so you can have a brew
and some of their great food!

Place: Monkey Bar, 53 Orchard Rd, Chatswood. (Corner of Help and
Orchard, 100M west of Chatswood station on the Northern side of the
line)

Don't call or email me, just be there...

Im not sure anybody could work out how they decided what class people
were in, which seemed to confuse people as to how they finished.

No winners trophies for Team Northside - ChrisT, Grant, Mark W and
Carl (absent), or Team Bikescape - Terry, Deb, Mark (mess), Stevo
and ???. But all competitors got a trophy for competing.

I beleive Greg from MAW's team won or placed in one of the classes.

Anyone else got a better idea of who came where?

What a blasting fantastic weekend! I hear that Hughesy's partie W/E was
a winner too - now only waiting to hear of winners from the 6 hours!

Here's what I've been up to:

Saturday:
Leave the house at 6:05
             Old Road
             Wollombi
             Broke
             Singleton (200km)
             Gresford
             Dungog
             Gloucester
             Walcha (300km)
             Telegraph Point
             Uranga (311.7 km)
Arrived at 17:00
Total Kms: 811.7
Av: ~ 74 km/h

Sunday:
Leave Bellingen at 6:30
             Dorrigo
             Ebor
             Wollomombi to
Kempsey via dirt road (check the pic in photos section for a
weird road sign!)
             Telegraph Point (314.9km)
<some little dirt road that rejoined the Oxley 20 kms west
of Long Flat>
             Walcha (194.3km)
             Gloucester
             Dungog
             Gresford
             Singleton (293.7km)
             Windsor
             Home (257.9km)
Arrived at 19:00
Total kms: 1060.8
Av: ~ 84 km/h

Fuel consumption was between 6.10 l/100km and 6.66 l/100km (this *evil*
fuel consumption reflects the hoon up the Oxley).

Oh, Monday. gave the bike a service then feet up and dreaming of the
bendy bits.

Too many variables. Different people angle there head slightly
differently and sit in a different position in the air flow. Height,
riding style etc affect these sort of things. Then theres the
different air flow coming off different bikes. However, some UK bike
mags do comparisons occasionally. I dont have a copy of any
unforetunately.

I find my current AXO RR6? very noisy but others with the same helmet
do not. However i like the helmet because it fits well, is lighter
than most (carbon fibre shell), and the shell is smaller than my
previous helmet so it doesnt rub as badly on my jacket collar.

I always wear earplugs with any helmet.

my snug fitting Arai will have to be replaced.) Was never happy with
the visor changing mechanism either.. Would appreciate input from the

A good question, but it really is something that changes from head to head
- they come in all different shapes - heads that is.

Shoei seem to fit most people well. I bought a HJC fibreglass/carbon
composite with snell and dot aproval. Things I liked was the shell
construction, the chin and breath guard (important for where I live up in
the mountains), the easy visor removal and the graphics, oh, and the price
(was on special in my size at the time). It is quieter than my last
helmet, probably mostly due to the visor. It also has very good vision
compared to the sharks etc, but the Shoei wins on this one.

If I were shopping for a helmet, where I wanted the best chance of a good
fit and good sound proofing, I would be looking at Shoei.

Cheers, James.

collecting deposits at the monthly dinners or you can give it to me

Yes, it was a VERY relaxing Weekend, although Steve "the weather
man" Hughes
was stressing every second a cloud appeared. Every time he tired to
re-assure himself, and US, it was fine - it started to sprinkle,
rain, blow
a gail. But fortunately these weather turmoils only lasted a short
time!!!
and Yes the sun shone again !! Cath was correct in her statement
that "it
has never stormed when I'm around".

The food prepared by Sleepy or "Snoozy" or "Stumpy" (I couldn't
remember his
name) was supberb. I thank him immensely (my waist-line is not so
thankful
!!). Steve and Cath and whoever was responsible - were the perfect
hosts. we
didn't have to lift a finger all weekend, except to feed and part-
take in
the odd beverage or 2 or 3 or !!!!! - But everyone was SO well
behaved and
it was just perfect. Even in the open shower - there were No perverts
lurking around - So I had to take my husband, Alan.

Not being a seasoned camper, with the correct thermal sleeping bag,
I was a
bit chilly the first night even with 2 layers of clothing on. The
second
night "Toby" was starting to look good even without a bath, but
Hughsie came
to my rescue with a real beaut "sauna" type bag. Slept like a baby.

Jimmy , our guest singer was a real hit singing some lovely oldies,
in which
you could actually hear the words and think about the song. All this
as we
sat around the camp fire, stars overhead, the dam glistening with
the lights
of the camp, and "Toby" the dog at feet, made the perfect scene.

Also like to thank all the gang, who offered lots of interesting
conversation and were just an all -round nice bunch of people. The
rides we
had were so organised and very responsibly run and everyone looked
after
eachother.

Thanks again to all concerned.

Only downfall - The Bulldogs Won!!

Yep, What a great relaxing weekend!!!! Thanks Hughsey and everyone else who made
this weekend happen. Have to mention 'SLEEPY' the cook who worked like a well
oiled machine to present great camp food, awesome......
It was great to have gear taken down there and back and just concentrate on
enjoying the ride. How cool was it to sit around the fire with a beer and good
company after the days ride.
As for the weather, apart from a few little drops ; ) it was perfect.....
WHENS THE NEXT ONE???????? Count us in......
Cheers,
A very relaxed Ray&Fi........

(I guess those responding here are either not away with BA or are
using the BA satellite and wireless network).

Unless the shopkeeper is going to let you ride up "the old road" to
try each helmet out, how can you know what the noise (even vent
whistle) is going to be like?
I have had two different Shoei lids and both have felt/sounded
different on the bike.
But let's face it, looks are most important. If you look the business
who cares about fit, weight, safety, wash-ability, visor swapping,
aeroydynamics...

SH (ahh, such a lovely day. Think I might go for a ride... again).

Yes, I only seem to get buffeting when I have to slow up and look
behind to see you wobblin' around the last corner behind me.

Well, either it's buffeting or hysterical gigglin' ehhe.

there's a black thingy on the left side of my shoei helmet which i
can turn downwards slightly to stop the visor from shutting
completely or back up so it shuts fully...
reckon all helmets have the same wind buffeting issue, boils down to
the rider's aerodynamics too i'd say.
alx, maybe you dont go fast enough with the BMW helmet hence the no
buffeting? :P

Helmet noise is a mute (sic) point if you wear earplugs, which I do
for most rides, especially long trips.

Can't comment on brands but if you do find a helmet that fits and
other features appeal, then noise issue is of secondary importance
with earplugs.

Additional significant noise reduction can be achieved by neck
warmers and helmet designs that fit snugly around the neck. Even
stuff a scarf up around after puttin' on t' helmet.

Other aerodynamic issues:-

1) Buffeting... subject to rider height and bike/fairing design. Bit
hard to comment on therefore, no issues with BMW helmet though.

2) Visor - can you crack it open a notch without being shut by wind
(BMW helmets are fine, dunno about any others)
