Community group for IA (Information Architecture) practitioners and interested others in Canberra, Australia. We hold "IA Cocktail Hour" on the 4th Thursday of every month - contact is Andrew Boyd aboyd AT smsmt DOT com
Some background: there’s been a community of information architects in Canberra, Australia for at least the last six years - a group of us met at the Nielsen-Norman Group UX conference in Sydney in 2002. We were pretty chuffed at the time that there were others like us that lived and worked in the same area.
Through the years in between we’ve kept in touch and met at various conferences and attended social functions at groups like SIGCHI and the various incarnations of the IA Cocktail Hour.
We’re a little different to IAs in the rest of the country in that most of the work here is in Government, with an emphasis on verifiable results and compliance rather than commercial success. This is not to say that we’re any better or worse than our brethren in the commercial/marketing sectors in other areas of the country - just different.
