Hi everyone!
The next Canberra IA Cocktail Hour is Thursday 28 May 2009.
David More is an information, experience and design consultant
currently working for Optimal Experience but with many, many IA and
user-centred design projects under his belt. :-)
In this IA Canberra meeting, David will be leading a discussion on
mentoring and development for in-house IA/UX/UI teams. Prompted by
David’s analysis, insight and examples, this will be a great
opportunity to find out what others have found works (and doesn’t
work) as well as sharing your ideas and stories.
We also hope you’ll join us for an informal dinner somewhere in
Dickson afterwards.
Start Time: 17:20 for 17:30 (please come on time - the door is
automatically locked at 17:30)
Finish Time: 19:00
Day/Date: Thursday 28 May 2009
Venue: Ipsos-Eureka Social Research Institute
Level 1
55 Woolley Street (above Zefferelli’s)
Dickson
Please RSVP to [facibus AT gmail DOT com] as soon as possible for
catering purposes.

Thanks everyone for ideas and suggestions tonight.
Franciscos was great. Better than any Mexican I've had in Australia and
on par with some I've had in Austin ;)

It’s been almost year and we’re ready to launch the second rendition of
BarCampCanberra, an open and participatory conference focused on web
technologies. BarCampCanberra ran as a tremendous success last year,
attracting a 70-odd strong crowd of bright developers and designers of
all backgrounds and disciplines, administrators, marketing and social
media peeps, community folks and more.
Similar to last year we’re planning on having a great weekend of web
geekery, beginning with informal Friday night drinks, the main event
with two streams on the Saturday (March 28.) and an intellectually
stimulating group dinner at the close of the day.
The Rundown
///////////////////////////
* Who? Anyone who is interested in the web and the technologies that
drive it, social interaction on the web and more. We have good room, so
make sure to bring your colleagues.
* What? A good opportunity to share ideas and projects and to work with like-minded individuals. For more information on what a BarCamp is, see http://barcamp.org/.
* When? From 10:00–17:00 on Saturday 28th March 2009.
* Where? BarCampCanberra2 will be held at the CSIT Building, North Road, Australian National University.
Registration
///////////////////////////
We'd love to have you register for the event – again this costs
nothing, but it would greatly help us with numbers and gives you a
chance to see what everyone is interested in talking about! Please
register at http://barcamp.org/BarCampCanberra2
Note there's also a spot for you to indicate whether you'll be coming
for dinner at the end of the day, which gives us an idea of numbers for
dinner bookings.
Please also sign up if you're going to be there for even one session on the day.
Publicity
///////////////////////////
We need your help getting the word out so that this is a successful
event. Tell your friends and colleagues. Particularly if you're a uni
student or faculty/staff, work in the tech/web industry, know someone
in the IT media or just know someone who might be interested, tell
them! Blog it. Put a sign up at work. Email people. Pay for a full-page
ad in The Canberra Times (just kidding).
Sponsorship
///////////////////////////
No BarCamp
runs successfully without the generosity of its sponsors. We have some
fabulous support and while we'll thank then on the day, we'd like to
mention them here:
acidlabs, Five Senses Coffee, UX Australia, Keith Lang, Australian
Anthill, Electric Shadows Bookshop, and there might be another
announcements; check the info page http://barcamp.org/BarCampCanberra2
If your organisation might be able to help in some way, contact one of the BarCamp Unorganisers and let them know.
Thanks; we're really looking forward to seeing you all there!

The next Canberra IA Cocktail Hour is Thursday 26 March 2009.
This meeting will be the first ever delivery of a engaging new
presentation from Formulate Information Design, on the principles of
visual perception and their relationship to electronic forms.
Come and learn about the ways we humans see, and how this knowledge
can be used to help electronic forms communicate visually (and
subconsciously) to users.
We also hope you’ll join us for an informal dinner somewhere in
Dickson afterwards.
Time: 17:30-19:00 (door is locked from 18:00)
Day/Date: Thursday 26 March 2009
Venue: Ipsos-Eureka Social Research Institute
Level 1
55 Woolley Street (above Zefferelli’s)
Dickson
Please RSVP to [facibus AT gmail DOT com] as soon as possible for
catering purposes.

Hi everyone
I seem to be getting a copy of Julie's email about IA Cocktail Hour
once ever 5 minutes. It could be a problem with my email but I just
want to check first whether anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
It would be great if you could let me know whether or not this is
happening to you.
Cheers

Hello again
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who clarified what was
happening for them WRT the IA Cocktail Hour Yahoo! Group email.
Seems that Yahoo! has deemed it appropriate to resend Julie's email
to me every 5-25 minutes. Hopefully it's a glitch that will clear up
soon. For those of you who are curious, all Julie's email said was
that she was unable to make it this Thursday.
If you didn't receive Julie's email, and also didn't receive Andrew's
reminder, then it could be related to my glitch or there might be
something wrong with your subscription to the group (for example, the
group emails might be being marked as spam by your email client, or
your email address is out of date). Visit http://au.groups.yahoo.com/
group/canberra_ia_community/ if you want to check your details.
Cheers

Just to show that Jessica is not
completely alone: I’ve received one from Julie but no more.
