Subject: [confest] Future of World Naked Bike Ride Brisbane plus WNBR at
ConFest
Hi all,
Before you start rushing to Marte's defence on this matter, I should let
you know a few things about the WNBR and Marte.
1) According to the official site in the nakedwiki section, the success
of the event does not depend on the size of it, but rather empowering
the individual to overcome their fear and shame of being naked in
public. Conrad Schmidt, who started the first WNBR in 2004 said that a
successful ride can mean anywhere between 2 to 400 people taking part. I
got 7 this year, which is a small improvement over the 5 last year.
2) The WNBR is not to do with 'organised nudism'. The state organisers
can promote the event as they see fit using whatever outlets they
choose. It is not slavish to any particular cause, especially as people
take part in it for varying reasons - some for the thrill of civil
disobedience, others for the joy of sustainable transport, others for
going one step more on conserving the natural environment (less money
spent on laundry and water usage).
3) Two weeks before the event was due to take place in Brisbane, I got a
few emails from Marte where he had hounded me from pillar to post to
change the location of the event from ANZAC park in Toowong to another
place because he feared the police would pull the plug on the event. In
the three years that I have been organising the WNBR they have never
stopped it, just threatened to arrest anybody who exposes their genital
area. At last year's one, they did threaten the guys with arrest if they
took their boardies off and the lone woman if she took off her top. At
this years one the police simply asked the male riders to keep their
g-strings on.
4) Marte also violated the WNBR's policy of not actively recruiting
youngsters for it when he got himself into a lot of trouble at ConFest
last year where he had egged on a 15-year-old girl who wanted to join in
to go the full monty a couple of times even though she refused. This
girl however did go topless of her own accord for most of the festival,
as she was keeping company with Tony & Desley's teenaged son David a
lot.* There were no ulterior motives on his part, but still it puts him
in a very compromising position. Ironically, Marte rode in the Newcastle
and Sydney bike rides this year wearing a pair of red speedos. The
Sydney one got only 14 riders, and he has not demanded that its
organiser 'retires' from the role, which brings us to my next point.
5) Following the small turnout of the Brisbane one this year, Marte
decided to sack me as the Brisbane organiser and then wanted me to lie
to my Yahoo! and Facebook groups that I had retired from my role. Like
hell, I would! This was the straw that broke the camel's back, and I
have since removed him from my facebook group and friends list, and
written an email to Conrad Schmidt, Heidi Hill (Melbourne organiser) and
Bike Rider (the Nimbin organiser) about him. Heidi has said that she was
also going to write to Conrad herself, because he had been hassling
members of the WNBR Melbourne groups and she had told him to butt out as
it is *her* event, not his.
6) I got complaints about Marte's poster design from a few women,
including Heidi, for the first two Australian WNBR's. For the first two
in Brisbane he had one of an old Indian chief on a bike with his
genitals being the main focus of it and uttering an expletive in
appraisal of the event, which is supposed to be a family friendly one.
For this year's one he depicted two young ladies straddling a bike naked
wearing fishnet stockings and stiletto heels with a blurb about a
fictitious legal scandal involving them. A young lady whom I approached
to help me promote the event said it was done in bad taste and I'm
inclined to agree with her now. Other people who have known Marte a bit
longer than me have told me that he can be very heavy-handed and loves
to provoke and inflame people.
You would know that people like Marte don't hound or push everybody
around, only those whom he assumes will stand for it. I am a pretty
placid, amiable and soft hearted person in real life, but like everybody
else I do have another side to me that doesn't come out too often and
when cornered I can get quite nasty. Unfortunately, Marte has cornered
me one too many times and it is time that everybody else on the groups
knew about it.
I *will* be organising the 2010 WNBR in Brisbane whether he likes it or
not, and there is nothing that he can do to stop it short of giving a
bogus report to the police (like the SECSC club boat cruise scandals
recently).
Best wishes,
Dario Western

Dear Naked Bike Riders of Brisbane,
Dario Western is no longer the Organiser of the World Naked Bike Ride
Brisbane.
The WNBR Brisbane WNBR 2008 had 6 riders.
Last December, at the WNBR Australia National Convention, Dario agreed
that his ability to perform the role and achieve a satisfactory level of
rider participation was in serious need of improvement and that the
future of WNBR in Brisbane and his position of Organiser were dependant
on demonstrated improvement. I have provided ample support, advice and
help to help Dario during his time as Organiser and particularly in the
lead up to the most recent ride.
The result of about 6 participants in WNBR Brisbane 2009 is not a
satisfactory level of participation. Brisbane has set a record for
having the 2 smallest rides in Australia for a second or subsequent
event in any city or town. Despite the undertaking to improve or step
aside in the circumstances, Dario is having some difficulty
understanding and accepting that it is not in the best interests of the
event for him to continue. I have explained the situation as nicely as I
can and offered Dario the opportunity to announce his retirement which
he has rejected. He is maintaining control of a facebook group and a
MySpace page using the WNBR Brisbane name until he gets over it. I am
sure we all wish him well and that he regains a happy disposition soon.
The position of WNBR Brisbane Organiser is vacant and I will consider
any nominations for the position from now onwards. Becoming an Organiser
requires certain criteria being met and is not automatic. As National
Coordinator I decide and make appointments to the positions of
Organisers within Australia. There has to be a reasonable chance of
success, demonstrated results, application to the task, ability to
cooperate and willingness to communicate with the National Coordinator.
Organisers need to demonstrate tact and discretion. A good understanding
of the themes of the WNBR and commitment to them is essential. WNBR
Organisers are supported and mentored in their role by the National
Coordinator, given web support, assistance with administering groups,
have posters and flyers drafted for them, media help and whatever
assistance or advice they need or request that can be preformed via
cyberspace.
Until a new Organiser or Organisers can be found, there is no prospect
of a future WNBRide in Brisbane. So it you want to see the event revived
and renewed please email me directly.
Yours truly naked in two wheeled protest,
Marte Kinder
