Hey folks!
I've just uploaded a few photos of the natural landscape at Autumn
2007 Confest that illustrate just how much impact the 2m drop in water
level has impacted the natural beauty of the Edwards river site.

I hope you'll agree that it's just as stunning there, just in a
different way!! what do you think?

good time in life : )

There is still a handful of small & big jobs needed to help Sydney ConFesters
gathering purr.
Please let us know if you can help out !!

The biggest task is getting the fruit & veg to the site ... Beautiful Benny

from Pagewood to the site !

way please let us know as soon as possible : ) A 2m x 3m trailer is available
if you're able to tow it.

Gypsy Kitchen ? Autumn ConFest ?07
An incredible and educational experience, I am struggling to find
words to describe it; the joy of watching the flows of movement
through the kitchen, each being weaving confidently through the
chaotic, playful busy-ness of the larger entity. The Gypsy Kitchen
has undeniably become it?s own entity, there is a community now that
is strong and rich enough to share all of the roles within it
comfortably, as well as being a resource of support and assistance to
other entities within the larger ConFest community.
Family, Community, Culture; these words were spoken by almost
everyone I connected with in the kitchen and the Kotema lounge. I
feel awe at the incredible privilege of witnessing a family, a
community, a culture becoming aware of itself. I saw countless
people with, or coming to the understanding that the seemingly
intangible spirit of ConFest is not something that we go somewhere or
when to find, it is something we are. ConFest is a vital meeting
place for us as a community and a culture. It is also a profound
example of the abundance of skills, talents, resources we have amongst
us. As well as the energy, magic, joy and collaborative creativity
we are capable of when we see ourselves, and act as a collective, as a
community.
This is the fifth ConFest in which I have participated in the Gypsy
Kitchen. The first was an Autumn ConFest. I spent most of the
festival gathering wood for the three fires in the gypsy village
communal fire circle, watching this spontaneously formed group of
people create something far more than a device for producing
sustenance. They created a place, a feeling that was home, and more,
they created a sense of an automatic invitation to consider myself at
home amongst them, and I have joyfully continued to do so.
For the five festivals since (including Folk Rhythm & Life ?05) I have
given thousands of hours of my effort and thought to the Gypsy Kitchen
and to ConFest, perhaps stretching my health a little past the point
of wisdom. I feel that every second of this has been more than
balanced by the richness of the opportunities and challenges presented
to me, the amazing people I have met, and come to know and love, and
the sheer gorgeousness of the whole experience.
The exhilaration I feel at seeing the Gypsy Kitchen Community grow
from a small group of facilitators to a large group of collaborators
is immeasurable and certainly indescribable, as is my gratitude and
appreciation for every being who contributed to this experience.
Joy,
Kristen.

please forward to other gypsy kitchen participants ....
please notify us if you do not want further gypsy kitchen emails
thanks

Hi everyone! How was your easter/passover/confest? I'd like to share my
experiences with
you.
After dropping the kids off at Avalon airport before dawn on Thursday so
they could fly up
to Brisbane and be with their father, I then drove up the Calder through to
Moulamein and
had a very interesting experience. I noticed on a sign that the distance
from Barham to
Moulamein was 69 kms but I only had 30 kms worth of fuel left when I had
noticed that I
was 36 kms into my trip from Barham to Moulamein. I'm talking the middle of
nowhere,
dried out creek beds, desert, large cattle stations with no visible housing,
real country if
you know what I mean. So I had decided to do a u-turn and get petrol back at
Barham
while towing the caravan weighing up that it was the lesser of distances to
a petrol pump.
I watched my petrol guage as it slowly wound down to zero and turned off the
radio and
the aircon to listen to my engine as I willed it to roll on the smell of
fumes for the next five
or six kms into the town... or how long it would get me there pulling a
caravan and all. I
then utilized my Secret manifestation powers, first I told myself I was
disgustingly lucky
and that my car would get me there, of course it would, it's an economical
Camry and the
caravan isn't THAT heavy, AND that I refused to walk in high heels from
petrol station back
to my car with jerry-can that just WASN'T going to happen, so I manifested
petrol, and it
worked, and as soon as I saw the BP sign as I entered Barham, I knew the
engine wasn't
even turning over anymore, it was just rolling forward so I let the car roll
into the service
station and stop right in front of the regular unleaded pump. YAY! for
manifesting petrol I
didn't have! I drove happily the rest of the way, to the Confest site and
drove around for a
river-front site, I was quite disappointed, the river had gone from a
healthy depth over the
summer, to dry cracked clay patches of river bed and exposed tree branches
with a few
pitiful stagnant puddles, not even what you'd call a stream, more like the
dying attempts
at a river before it completely dries up like some of the other creeks and
river beds I'd
seen on the drive there. Well I parked in front of what was the lovely
Edwards River lagoon,
between the Confest committee van and a lovely German hippie couple and
their two
beautiful indigo children, with their golden skin, blue eyes and flaxen
hair, a girl of about
3 and a boy of about 1. Actually it was remarkable just how many children
there were at
Confest, the organisers said there was about 300 that they had counted, and
it was lovely
to see that it still appealed to both the new generation and the die hard
oldies who'd been
coming there for the past 30 years.
As I had set-up and had a little siesta, a Geelong girlfriend found me and
parked her swag
and tarp next to the caravan and we went for a walk to the chai tea tent,
which really is the
purple heart of Confest. It's more than going for a cup of delicious chai
tea, it's the
connection you get there with other people, the chance to see old friends
and make new
ones, and is always one of the highlights of the experience. The rainbow
frenchies weren't
there en masse this easter, except for one, who's stayed in Melbourne since
Confest
Summer ended and now plans to head north for the winter before re-newing his
visa
overseas probably offshore for a little while then coming back as soon as he
can. It was
great seeing everyone. I was tickled to see a Sydney pagan girlfriend who I
met at last
year's AWC (Australian Wiccan Conference) and had driven 8 hours to be at
Confest, which
I was really impressed with. As usual there were old friends, too many to
mention, as well
as new ones, an expanded social circle and lots of lovely eye candy. No one
special for me,
I wasn't hunting at all, I wasn't attracing any unwanted attention either
which was lovely, I
was just happy being me, enjoying the company of strong amazing women
actually, more
than the hippy boys that were there. We had camped near gypsy village
kitchen which was
next to the fire-drumming circle, so it was the drumming which went all
night that was a
little hard to sleep through, but on the Monday morning, the morning I had
planned to go
back, a woman had lost her grip on reality and had a full screaming,
fitting, eating-the-
dirt abusive episode, either from not taking her happy pills or from taking
the wrong sort
of happy medicine for her brain chemistry or at least that was what it
seemed like. It was
hours before the right sort of ambulance and police had arrived, by then the
whole
campsite had awoken to her screams, she had tried to eat handfulls of dust,
we'd heard
every curse word under the sun and we'd all been sent to hell, so after the
second
ambulance came, which was equipped to carry psychiatric patients, we spent
the rest of
the morning healing the healers with OHMs, with singing bowls, with big
heart-felt group
hugs, with reiki and with everything we could think of, before all treating
ourselves to a
big breakfast of pancakes with ice cream and maple syrup as comfort food.
There's at
least one nutter at every confest that goes off, so those that have been
there know what I
mean. So there went my morning to leave, so I stayed for the rest of the
day, I noticed that
my neighbor the Geelong girl had left by the time I got back, but she left
me a note to say
she couldn't find me, so that was fair enough, and I stayed the Monday
night, although my
enjoyment of Confest and hunger to stay on had waned considerably and I was
looking
forward to getting back into my own comfortable farmiliar surroundings, hot
running
water and a drama-free sleep. The most wonderful things about going away
were sleeping
when I felt like it, including day-time siestas, eating when I wanted to,
the workshops, and
simply not answering to anyone, no phone clients, nothing I had to
particularly do or be
in, it was the freedom just to be, which was healing in itself. On a lighter
note, I picked up
the boys last night from Avalon, as I drove there I saw a shooting star
right in front of me,
like it was meant for me, so I wished on it.
I hope everyone else had a great time too, please share your stories here.
- Eilish

remember, guys, to look above you when setting up camp underneath these
massive, grand gums.
I was present during summer confest when a giant branch (longer and wider
than my car!!) gave a big cracking noise, snapped and fell in high winds,
landing (*thankfully* away from confesters) in a fire circle in gypsy.

dead leaves on an overhanging branch is a silent reminder from nature that
you don't need to camp underneath it!!!

stay safe peoples, and see you at the fire dancing circle!

I'll be looking to drive up on the Saturday night, now that I've seen that
there'll be a cool
place to camp out on the way up. It is - http://www.bushdooffestival.com.au/
(Near
Shepparton)

So I'll leave Melbs about 8pm stop in there for a boogie and rest then continue
on to Confest
early Sunday Morn.

I'll be looking to finalise seating arrangements for the trip up by Wed night so
maybe we can
chat before then. Ta muchly.

Good luck to everyone looking for a lift - hope to see you at Confest!

Karen

I have 2 or 3 seats available depending on luggage departing from
Kilsyth or I can pick up you at (probably) Croydon train station on
Friday AM.

Chip in a bit for petrol and keep me company on the drive and we'll get
to Confest after lunch.

Let my know by email or phone 9733 0595/0402 791 501.

Karen

Hi,

I'm looking to get to Confest this Easter from Adelaide, so am
wondering if anyone can offer a ride. Can leave on Friday anytime.

I'm hoping to not take my car, but if i can't get a lift then that is
another option, in which case i am open to driving and offering a lift
to up to 3 others.

Contact me on (08) 8272 3993 (away between Fri 30/3 and Mon 2/4) or on
email tonyhegyi@....

Cheers
Tony

Hi everyone,

The other idea I had was whether a bunch of us carless people want to
get together and hire a car? It is very expensive though, about $390
(plus over $100 in petrol probably) to leave Friday come back Tuesday.
If there were 5 of us, it would come to about $100 each, but if there
were less than 5 it would obviously cost more.

Anyway if any of you are desperate like me, get in touch! I would come
and pick you up from anywhere in Melb.

All the best,
Mel
