Hi Confesters,
I am taking a 14 foot trailer to confest, I have quite a
lot of spare room for pushbikes and am offering to transport your bikes
to Moulamein and return. I am going to ask for a $10 donation to
contribute to the fuel cost for the privelage of having a bike to get
around on.
If you would like to book a berth for your bike, please email me, or
ring me.
Cheers,
Ian.

Well, I would be if I wasn't taking the Valiant. :-D

Actually I intend (finances permitting) to leave Brizzy early, aiming to get
down there about a week before things start so I can assist in some of the
setup. I'll have at max 2 seats available in the beast. I'll also be staying
on for about a week after to help with the packing up.

Note too, I never try to do the entire trip in one go. There's a Caltex servo
just south of Gilgandra which has cheap overnight motel rooms (it's also a
truck stop), so I usually stop there for the night and do the rest of the rip
the next day. You'd need to budget for that stop too.

Hi,
Is anyone travelling down for Brisbane?
If so I would a love a share your ride. I am willing to help with
driving if wanted.
Let me know how much you want towards the fuel... or if you want to

Hi all.

Yup, it's cool with me. I like Kevin's idea - the actual shoot location could
certainly be worked out , but best to wait until we actually see the site. In
my experience, every ConFest is different, so what might be a suitable
location last year may well turn out to be not so good this year.

...or in fact similar to some that were done at previous ConFests (quite a few
years back now). Maybe if a suitably large flat area can be found we could
incorporate a massed "group hug" as well (haven't seen/participated in one
since about 1991).

But does that requirement stipulate exclusive copyright to DTE, or shared
copyright? That requirement is actually law, BTW, since any such photos are on
private property and as such the copyright automatically belongs to the
property owner (in this case, DTE). I would recommend checking with DTE prior
to ConFest, and ASAP so that (if necessary) it can be discussed and ruled on
at the next committee meeting (otherwise, there would need to be a special
meeting called to discuss it).

I strongly urge you to contact DTE directly, but if they give the OK, then
count me in.

Re. group photo at ConFest

Hi David, yes good idea and count me in!

May i suggest a few things here

* Maybe hold the photoshoot on the new years eve, in the afternoon.
(New years excitement may inspire a good turnout)

* Place a meeting place and time/date up on the central timetabling
area at ConFest.

* Advertise the photo shoot with several painted signs around ConFest.

* Once all grouped together at the central location, we then head for
the actual photo shoot location, some walking distance away

* The photo shoot location should be away from observers and "hangers
on" so that the only people present are either the photographers
(officially proclaimed ones) or the (fully) nude participants
(This helps people that would otherwise be too fearful of disrobing
in public, with clothed people around observing, the chance to
liberate their bodies in the presence of other nude people, and have
some fun)

* maybe a good location would be at the end of "TranQuility", near
the quiet contemplation space, down by the river.

Regards,

Kevin.

Hi back atcha!

I can't help with transport from Melbourne as I live in Queensland, but I
might perhaps be able to assist with transport to Tenterfield, since that is
(sort of) on the way home. OTOH, I might even be tempted to join in at Exodus
(even though I have no idea what it is :) ).

I should be at ConFest, camped in Gypsy. Just look for the grey/blue Valiant
with Queensland plates and a set of antlers tied to the bonnet :-P

Hi!

We are Sean and Aurca, a couple looking for a lift from Melbourne to
ConFest on the 30th Dec 2008 and are willing to chip in for petrol
expenses and foodies along the way! It'll be our first time at the
festival, and we're really psyched to experience the wonder! We're
looking to make new friends & share beautiful experiences with you all!

After the festival we'll also be heading over to volunteer at Exodus
Festival outside Tenterfield NSW (in the direction of Moree, Casino &
Ballina), to arrive by 5pm on the 5th Jan 2008. If anyone's going to
exdous, or in that direction, or would know even the best way to get

Hi.

Name is Alex, I live in Ipswich, sunny (and often bl***y hot!)
Queensland.

It's a long trip, but IMO worth it. I'll hopefully be going again
this New Year, maybe a bit early to help set up (dunno yet, depends
on time).

I'm not sure whether to go in the car (an old Valiant, which is
surprisingly more fuel efficient than many modern cars), or (provided
I can get it running and registered) my motorcycle. If there are
others from Queensland who are interested in sharing transport and
costs, then I'll definitely take the Valiant :)

Anywho....

Alex

Hi all,

This might not be about ConFest as such, but it is enlightening to see that the
whole spirit of it is definitely alive and well in other cultures around the
world. I would love to learn a few things from this guy being a musician myself
who wants to see ConFest succeed with Brisbane people too.

www.lawrence.com/news/2008/jul/18/music_environmental_awareness_spirituality_col\
lide

http://tinyurl.com/5mpsbf

http://www.campgaea.org

When Chris Yager decided to launch a music festival, he experienced a
rude awakening.

He proposed the idea to Earth Rising Inc., a group that owns Camp
Gaea, a 168-acre spiritual retreat center 10 miles north of
Tonganoxie. Yager hoped to stage his festival at the scenic, isolated
sanctuary that once functioned as a church camp.

The concept did not go over well.

"They were concerned about it turning into this big party," Yager
says. "I understand. I've already been through the big party stage,
and I'm ready to develop and move forward. They said, 'The challenge
is for you to educate and have a point - then we'll agree to it.'"

So after enduring several board meetings, Yager and his staff finally
convinced the proprietors to embrace the Gaea Retreat and Music
Festival, which begins at noon today.

"We've spawned into this weird festival where it's a mesh of cultures.
We have introduced education through imagery by focusing on things
like the environment, free energy, energy conservation alternatives,
performing arts," he says.

"It's more of a social experience than a music festival. I think of it
as a cultural brothel - though I hate to use that phrase."

Those at Camp Gaea might not be too comfortable with the phrase
either.

The venue has spent years living down its reputation as a haven for
nudists and pagan rituals. This was in part due to the publicity
revolving around a 2001 lawsuit Earth Rising filed after neighbors
pressured Leavenworth County to revoke Camp Gaea's permit. (A
compromise was eventually reached out of court.)

Since then, the site's board of directors has worked hard to alter its
anything-goes notoriety.

"We have a little of that reputation which we're hoping to break,"
says Chris Byram, president of Earth Rising.

"We have a lot of people come out there who are Catholic or Christian.
They come out there just because there is not the cultural hold over
everything you do. You don't feel like you're constantly being judged.
We're not a nudist camp. Personal nudity is a spiritual and personal
choice. It's not anything we encourage or discourage. We have certain
areas that are clothing-required, such as the main public buildings
and areas around the outlying gates."

[My note: the only difference here is that I want Brisbane ConFest to have some
areas where nudity is mandatory such as a mud pool, a hot tub, and a sweat tent
for health and hygeine reasons. Everywhere else will be clothes optional]

In fact, Byram admits he has never gone nude on the Camp Gaea
premises.

"I have clothes on right now," he says, laughing.

Pooling talents

Yager was initially distressed that his festival was forced by Earth
Rising to head in a different direction.

"We weren't prepared for it. Then I turned it into a positive. Now we
have a point. Now we have a purpose," he says.

So Yager, a former Lawrence resident who recently moved to Kansas
City, adopted the concept with reckless abandon by turning to his
staff and determining what talents they had to offer.

One was an advocate of the energy crisis point; another an expert on
entanglement theory.

For Yager, he had just experienced a home birth with his girlfriend
seven weeks ago, and he decided to speak to the benefit of that trend
by recruiting a midwife activist for the festival.

"If one girl goes to the festival and decides to have her baby at
home, my job is done," says Yager, who named his daughter Merridy,
which means "a happy song."

"She was named after this thing," he says of the concert event.

Other education-oriented aspects to the Gaea gathering (which is taken
from the ancient Greek word for Mother Earth) include performing arts
preservation, fine arts preservation, drug decriminalization and ways
to improve gas mileage by building hydrogen cells.

In addition to various speakers, Yager has assembled informational
DVDs to air on projection screens in-between the bands.

"We're going to open up some really touchy subjects that most stock
model events wouldn't even touch," Yager says.

Increasing scope

A year ago, Yager was simply another guitarist in Lawrence trying to
start a band.

He threw a few house parties to get the word out about his group, Bad
Sushi, and the events started to balloon.

He marshaled three Lawrence bands - Truckstop Honeymoon, Fast Food
Junkies and Deadman Flats - and took them out to Perry Lake for an
event called Lost Family Reunion.

"There wasn't enough food for everyone. There wasn't enough light," he
says. "But for being underbudgeted and amateurly planned, it went way
good. ... It hit about 400 people. It didn't make it to my idea of a
festival; it was a gathering."

For the upcoming event, Yager says he's recruited a staff of about 100
people that includes such necessities as emergency response teams.

He's also increased the amount of musical acts from three to more than
40. Bands and DJs are trekking in from places such as Michigan and
Nebraska.

"Most are friends or people I've done gigs with," Yager says. "The
others came from posting bulletins on MySpace."

Despite the increase in artists and activities, attendance at Camp
Gaea (pronounced guy-uh) is capped at 750.

Byram says, "When speaking with Chris Yager, he's just got such a
really good sound mind for finding that even balance between having a
music festival that has a community behind it. It's not just music for
him; it's also about building that community. It's getting the 18-year-
old kids to find that realm of evenness and spiritual soundness."

Hi all,

Seeing as more and more people are becoming attracted to facebook as a social
meeting and networking site, I have started up a group for people in Brisbane
and surrounding areas who would like to organise a Brisbane leg of ConFest.

We had some very lively debate about it in April with a lady who is well known
and respected in the Pagan community in Brisbane, and I am serious about putting
these ideas into action as of next week.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=29367035109

There are two posts on the board on how to get it to work, and 20 questions that
first timers and newbies might have about it.

Hope to see you all on there.

Best wishes,

Dario Western

Hi Groovers and Grapefruits,

The next dinner and meeting for the Sydney ConFesters group is
Thursday 15th May in West Pennant Hills.

Most of you are probably aware that there is no formal committee for
the Sydney group ... simply inspired people who do great things ...
powered by 100% volunteer energy. YOU are invited to join in ... to
come dip your proverbial toe in the waters of crafting an event, a
gathering, a social network, a festival that you'd like to see ...
OR jump in whole heatedly !

We meet fortnightly .. and are keeping the EJ Ward centre in

Hi

On the DTE website I can only view photos up to 2001. As I didn't take
many photos in Confest, I wonder is there a photo gallery place some
where I can reminiscent the event? (similiar to DTE gallery?)

Cheers

completed, workshops, activities and hangout days can begin, with
even more getting to know each other.
* There is an informal concert either on Friday or Saturday evening.
* The last day of the gathering is pack up day where we play
together, removing our presence from the site and finishing with a
beautiful Closing Ceremony.
* There are always lots of newcomers and we aim to make everyone
welcome -- if you are a newcomer, go and say hello to someone and
ask for an orientation. If you've been before -- share the joy.
Hugs are the order of the day -- but please remember to ask first!
* If you see something that needs doing, please do it or ask how to
get it done. See the Tasks Board for tasks to be done. You can
help in the kitchen, front gate, setting up marquees, maintenance
of amenities, cleaning, site care, etc. Please offer your
assistance regularly, as we are all part of the team.
* Action will be taken in the event of inappropriate behaviour of
attendees at ConFesters Gatherings. Inappropriate behaviour may
relate to the use of drugs and alcohol, sexual or physical
harassment or inappropriateness, mistreatment of the site or
breaches of policy or conditions.
* Notice Board is the place for any general or specific notices you
wish to convey to others.
* We depend on your feedback so we can keep improving Sydney
ConFesters gatherings. Please put any feedback on the Notice
Board, in the ConFesters feedback book, or email to

at your own risk.
* All workshops are free.
* Workshop spaces will be set up as part of the general group activity.
* Please bring all equipment and items necessary to run your
workshop. No power is available on site.
* Workshop spaces are booked by entering details on the Workshop
blackboard.

drinks you may require. Please advise beforehand if you have any
special dietary needs, we will endeavor to accommodate them. Check
with the Kitchen Coordinator before contributing food to the kitchen.
* Part of the entry ticket is a work contribution. Our combined
efforts create this community -- and you get to choose what suits
you: site set-up, daily community functions and activities (e.g.

Hey guys I un-mmoderated this group while I was away cause I think it's a
great tool for last minute lifts.

So some junk slipped through

And I would love to know how people went especially the good storiesJ

Or at least ones with happy endings :-P

Dario I cannot begin to describe just how good it was but I will any way.

I headed down a few days early with uncle Fred

Who is a chain smoker and annoys the hell out of people who have any bees in
their bonnet cause he like to stir them up a bit.

Having said that he is one of the most considerate people I know when he not
stirring up the bees.

Even to the point of chewing nicobates till his teeth wore down, getting
magnets taped to his ears and jumping out every stop to have his puff. But
never smoked in the car while I was in it.

On arriving the site was near finished cause it was still done from X-mass.

But more sand arrived and pipes needed doing and workshops spaces put up.

We didn't even have enough spaces on the black boards for the amount of
workshop spaces installed. I think over 300 workshops wow

And the beautiful Rose who is new to this group carried and installed more
toilet paper and lime around this festival than she would use in 2 weeks. In
black beauty or puff the tragic wagon

I love the 2 new vans.

The radio repeater was a treat thanks Paul this gives evey one a good
reception anywhere on the site if you got a radio.

The river was down but highly swimmable. Bliss kitchen and Gypsy Kitchen
where a great feed and I think I left more food at Bliss than I ate. My
tummy is still gurgling cause I had about 3 dinners per day. I don't know
what I was thinking.

I did less this time than most, and had lots a chats, My favorite spot in
car free had all the usual regulars J

I saw about 5 tipis and some people who are part if the next rainbow
gathering coming up.

First aid where not as busy this time so they dressed up in suspenders and
heals and walked around distributing Condoms and Dental Dams, and you should
have seen what the ladies wore. not sure if they showed everyone how to use
them but I think they had instruction books too. If you don't know what a
dental Dam is come to the next fest or Google it.

Sydney ConFesters is coming up in a little while

www.sydneyconfesters.org

And I just got back from the site today and the road is looking incredible.
But the blackburrys and grass has been growing like a magic bean stalk.

Love light lafta and stuff

Benjamin ox
