Hi all!
My boyfriend and I are travelling around Australia at present, were at
New Years fest, and are hoping to make it to this Easter ConFest.
Presently we are in NSW around Port Macquarie area, and were planning
on heading South to the site for April, but it's a looong way when
you're hitchhiking!
We have quite loose plans (we're WWOOFing at the moment) and can travel
north in NSW if there is a lift available from Byron area or anywhere
really! We can even leave earlier than the 10th if needed!
I hope we can make it there anyways, and see all you shiney beautiful
people. ;D
You can reach us by text or phone on 044 9151288

Hello
I went to Confest for the first time last xmas and really enjoyed it and wish to
go back again for Easter.
I will be flying into Melbourne on the 7th of April and would like to go to
Confest that afternoon or the next day. I intends to do some volunteering work
there.
I wont be having much luggage, just myself and my hearing dog.
If you can assist in getting me and my dog there it would be appreciated. I
will most certainly assist with the cost of fuel extra.
If you can help I can be contacted on happybuddha68@...
Thanks
Chris BD
hi people,
i'm thinking about heading to confest for easter, for the first time and i was
wondering if i
there's anyone from sydney that i could get a lift with (i live in the eastern
suburbs) i'm happy
to contribute to petrol and even share the driving if you like. i could leave on
thurs but would
have to be back on the monday- i think, i might be able to suss it out with my
boss for an
extra day off maybe.

HI!
My boyfriend and I are looking forward to attending our second ConFest...still
travelling around Aus, are in Sydney at present, possibly heading south if we
can't WWOOF in this area.
Anyways, we're looking for a lift for 2 (and willing to share fuel costs) from
Sydney, or around....we're quite flexible..if we don't end up hearing from
someone, we might end up trying to hitch closer inland or to Melbourne. So this
is a message out to all you beautiful people, in hope of something
synchronizing...
Love and purpleness~

Hello- two wildly attractive, fun, spiritually minded and generally groovy
students looking for a lift to confest from Sydney in car, bus, rickshaw,
horse-drawn chariot, harley or spaceship. Hoping to leave Friday.. Happy to pay
for fuel and snacks, willing to share stories and hugs.
Hi all
I will be going to ConFest from Newtown, Sydney. I have this week bought myself
a Hiace van for more comfortable camping but it also means there is no problem
with space for everyone's gear to get down there. There is seating for 3 so I
can take 2 people. I would like help with petrol costs - estimated cost 1-way
$100.
At this point in time (Sat nt) I want to leave on Tuesday 7/4 arvo but I really
don't think I will get my act together by then. Most likely it will be Wed 8/4
or at worst I won't get away till Thurs 9/4.
Whatever day I leave I will probably be leaving Sydney around lunchtime to early
afternoon & driving most of, if not all, the way there. We could either just
drive there & camp outside the ConFest gate, or we could stop at say Hay, then
do the last couple of hundred km's the next day.
I intend to stay to help with breakdown till Fri 17/4, and return to Sydney that
day (it'll probably be close to midnight).
If my plans work for you (one way or both) please:
1. Best to ring me after 1pm till 11pm any day on 0415.259.592 (Voda).
2. or email reply to peternettle2@...

Hello there sweet confesters. My girlfriend and I have decided to go one day
earlier to festival to avoid most of the traffic. We will now be leaving
Melbourne city at 9am Thursday 9th. We have room for one person. We would prefer
someone with knowledge of the area as we are tourists to your neck of the woods.
Keep smiling and spreading the love.

Walking the talk!!
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
OK, well as I got so many replies to my requests for opinions, I thought I'dd
let you know some results. All messages were submitted to a DTE/ConFest
Committee meeting , by myself.
There were many other complaints too, about issues to do with sound in
general. Ian( Red Beach) spoke at great length, about Electrically Amplified
Sound around the Red Beach Area, not Red Beach itself. There is no change to
the Red Beach area. The discussion on sound has not been about Red Beach as
such, and Ian's contribution to ConFest is appreciated.
Ok following complaints from many market traders, it was proposed to ban
all Electrically Amplified Sound from the market area. This was voted on. This
is now inforce, and part of the traders permit. There will be no Electrically
Amplified music permitted at any time in the whole market area.
There is to be no Electrically Amplified Sound unless prior approval from
the DTE/ConFest Committee is granted. The use of car stereo equipement can
only be used for listening to ConFest radio, not for private music festivals,
the same for any stereo equipement. If you check your ticket at entry it does
state relevant things in accordance with this.
The DTE Directors then formed a sub committee answerable to the Directors
only, to deal with this issue. The Sound Committee, is of 5 people, all onsite
and all on Radio communication. It is their responsibility to go around and if
needs be ask those who need to be asked to stop. There is a process now , that
can result in someone who choses not to respect others to leave the ConFest site
and not return. Hopefully now camping areas will be quieter areas. The
Sound Committee is contactable, ask at the Info tent, and they can and will be
able to listen to any sound complaints you may have. Most of their working will
be at night, so I would ask if you feel a need to contact them, try to avoid
mornings!
There will also be a public meeting on the saturday afternoon, to obtain
views on Electrically Amplified Sound. The request is for people to write down
their views, ideally with an email address and name, and hand it in, either at
the meeting, or at the box in the Info tent. The box will also be emptied
everyday. There will also be paper there for you to write on at anytime.
Amongst many other things it is my responsibility to collect this all, and in
due course it will be presented to DTE/ConFest Committee. Info on this of
course in the Info tent. I would like it remembered that Ian( Red Beach) fully
supports this. There should be no other Electrically Amplified Sound than Red
Beach.
All accoustic music is encouraged, tho again, we ask that people respect
others, especially in the early hours!
Hello I and my hearing dog will be arriving in Melbourne midday Tuesday 7th of
April and would like to go straight to ConFest. I am looking for someone that
can give us a lift there. I am willing to assist with the cost of fuel and
driving etc.
If Tuesday is not possible, I am happy to come up on Wednesday morning instead.
Chris BD
Hey everyone, a big thankyou for all your posts on the music issue.
I have taken them all( printed off) and passed them along with my
personal request that the board look into this issue, and try to
resolve it. I think it may take a while tho! heheheh
The issue was raised by several people, myself included, because
irrespective of anything, a lot of people get disturbed sleep in the
nights. I hope what ever the outcome of the ongoing discussion, even
withsome compromise, we can get back to whats important, whatever that is.
hehehehe I should run for parliament.
Keep safe out there.

Heya Confest Luverlies!
How many confests has Ian set up the red beach? How significant is his
contribution to the Confest Concert?
Everyone has an opinion on how confest can better suit their personal
tastes - it is up to each of us to provide a better stage with better
music if we feel that it is not to our tastes. Ian busts his balls
setting up that huge area every confest, I greatly value his
contribution to the festival.
For very complaint that music that is referred to as techno does not
belong at confest, I counter that you are not speaking for everyone.
Please don't try to divide dance music lovers into 'young' or some other
category. At the site, we are all confesters!
Appreciate, please! for what is confest without it?
With Love,
Bill

> We have this discussion after EVERY Confest!!
If that is so, then there must be some problem. Instead of rolling your eyes
and thinking "Oh no! here we go again!", how about trying to work out (or
understand) just what the problem is, what the causes of the problem are, and
then what can be done to either eliminate it of reduce the impact of the
cause.
Your comment above is not merely not constructive, but is in fact a symptom of
the problem - namely lack of consideration of what most people come to
ConFest for.
So we need to answer these 4 questions:
Is there a problem?
If there is, then what exactly is it?
What are the primary causes of the problem?
What can be done to resolve the situation in a way that is satisfactory to all
concerned?
>
(My answers are:
Yes, there is a problem
A relatively small sub-group's activities are detracting from other's
enjoyment of ConFest.
The primary cause is the thoughtlessness of that sub-group, that is, they
don't stop to consider that their activities detract from other's enjoyment.
I'd personally prefer education to resolve things. That perhaps is a partial
answer. Perhaps a more complete answer would be to have a curfew on what I
note is referred to as "doof", but make sure that everyone who is at the
location is told why - that IMO is most important. Simply enforcing a curfew
without explaining why it is there would merely lead to bad feeling. If some
won't accept that their activities are disruptive, then perhaps they'd fit in
better somewhere other than at ConFest.)
There are no really easy answers, but the fact that this seems to rear its
heat regularly indicates that there is a real problem, and we (meaning ALL
ConFesters) must address it, and seek effective answers.

Time limit is not unreasonable.
CERES has doof between 4:30 & 9:30pm on Sundays
and there are a couple hundred people.
ie They don't mind it not being an all nighter.

God created us with faults , so lets try and look at peoples positive
points, just two will do.
1 .We have to remember that these young people are the the new generation of
confesters!
2 .With out them there will be no more confests when we are all gone!
My opinon is yes let them play there music and let us old timers play ours.
But with some simple rules and no bending the rules!
The rules could be as simple as this no music before 10am and all music to
cease at midnight!
And have a designated area far away from the camping area!
Thats my view anyway!
Shine on !

I remember the beauty of the music at Easter Confest: Chai tent, so many
nice little bands, acustic bands, I mean. Paradise.
And, two nights in a row, the beauty of 30th or so musicians, sitting at the
edge of the tent: drums, violins, flutes... like one body, hours and hours,
and hours, different musicians entering the body, and then leaving it, and
the jam going from blues to folk to just drums to Celtic to Arabian...
Paradise.
I remember also somewhere I think near arts there was something similar to
red beach, where there was some sort of big drummings, which would do for
something similar to techno.. it was cool.
I do also remember about one hundred people sitting right off the chai tent,
in a circle, singing and play hippie chants.
Drums would not affect this, there was a nice balance. Drums would be
playing further away. Paradise.
The spirit of the land was singing.
And how about this last NY confest?
Guys, the problem is not JUST amplified music. The problem is that it seems
a forgetfulness of what confest is and therefore of what music at confest
should be.

In response to the email, copied below:
My enjoyment and love of ConFest comes from connecting with people and with
nature, the comparative freedom individuals can experience and the opportunity
this provides for personal growth, enjoyment and recharging the batteries of
life.
I believe the freedom is dependant on mutual respect and understanding - which
implies that anything is acceptable as long as it does not harm or significantly
inconvenience others.
I do not like amplified music nor doof and accept that others do.
I love most other forms of music and the connection that it can create between
people.
The question is, what about amplified and doof music - my views are:
a.. I find amplified music unnecessary at ConFest, there are many other
festivals with amplified music - ConFest is unique, let us keep it so.
b.. Amplified music is obtrusive when played at a high volume.
c.. It is unsettling and disturbing, not connecting or vibrant.
If amplification is necessary, then limit the volume and the time during which
it can drown out the sounds of nature, other music and if close enough to it
even conversation and affect sleep - thus for me it is detrimental to my reasons
for attending ConFest.
thanks for the opportunity to comment,
Jimmy

I would like to hear peoples views on amplifier use at ConFest.
Are they happy to have amplified sounds/music? do you think there
should be a night time stoppage of amplified sound/music? etc.
All views and suggestions can be made here or directly to me via
email. It is very important that as many of you reply to this as this
may go to shape future policy at ConFest.
Thankyou,

Thanks for all the feed back on amplified music
It is important to note that this forum is not (to my knowledge)
Used at meetings.
Please let them know how passionate you are for or against music.
........
I would love to hear more about your ConFest / Sydney ConFesters adventures
including car pooling and travels

I think the thing is (at least it's my impression) folk don't really object
too much to the "music". What they object to is the incredible lack of
consideration for others that those relatively few denizens of Red Beach
display. I mean, cranking up the amps at 3:30 AM? that is inconsiderate in
the extreme, in fact in my opinion it is downright rude.
Let those who really HAVE to indulge do so (after all, Jim Cairns specifically
said "None may be excluded..."), but their noise should be such that it is
not audible more than about 200 metres from the edge of the Red Beach area.
Unfortunately for them, the only successful way to achieve that is to
drastically reduce the amount of bass, since low frequencies carry much
further without significant attenuation. Where I was camped, about 1 km from
the beach and 500 metres back from the river, it was the bass that woke me
up, and in fact that was virtually all I could hear. I know there was more,
voice etc, but it didn't carry that far.
In short, have your amplified stuff, but show some consideration for the rest
of us who aren't interested in that stuff. After all, we are the majority of
ConFesters...
