Re: [crayfishworldaccessgroup] traps

aye buddy,i got some advice for you.normally for a quick catch i would recommend a open bag net,but thats only if your around to check it friequently,so i suggest a drum net or the new 'operahouse' style net as once they walk in for the bait, there not getting out.the standard opera house net does has its drawbacks for catching small to medium crays is that the mesh used to cover the nets has large hole's for the small one's to fall out of when pulling it in so i would but a drum net because the material used to cover it is very similar to curtain material with the density of the material having small porus breathing holes to let nothing escape.after that just some nice strong smelling meat dripping with blood to attract them ,submerge it in a nice pool close to rocks and over hanging branches or grass, preferably in a pool with crayfish burrows or holes in the pond walls and bobs your aunty, you should catch your new pet crayfish.good luck man

hi all, just wondering if anyone has any advice on what traps, cages
etc work best for catching crays, as i will be away on the north-
western slopes of nsw. i plan on setting the traps and leaving for a
few hours, as i have work to do while i'm in the area. i'm only asking
this as when i normally go looking, i search by hand, turning over
rocks etc and using hand nets. i must also say i really only want one
or two small to medium sized crays as i went them as pets not to eat.
any help would be greatly appreciated
