Corinne Grant - Biography
Corinne Grant normally wants us to be laughing at her, but if she gets
giggles from the crowd when she dons her ball gown she knows she's
stuffed up.
"In my job I'm meant to be in control of when people laugh. At the
moment I'm making Csaba [Szirmai, dance partner] laugh but it's not
because I'm trying to be funny, it's because I've done something
hideously wrong," she says.
"This is something pretty different for me, a chance to shake things
up. But my family thinks it's hilarious because they've actually seen
my attempts at dance in the past."
In fact, she credits her after school callisthenics classes as a
fresh-faced 14-year-old as her most recent attempts at learning to
dance. But she's putting in the long hours with dance partner Csaba
Szirmai to hopefully surprise them with her graceful transformation.
Or maybe not.
"I've kicked him a number of times," she admits. "He doesn't complain.
He's a very patient teacher obviously." The Latin styles are proving
the most difficult for Corinne, who says her lack of rhythm in the hip
department is proving quite the challenge.
"The hip stuff I have a lot of trouble with and when I'm struggling
with it I can't look at Csaba without giggling."
She says part of her motivation for joining the show was watching last
year's finalists, Kate Ceberano and Fifi Box, have so much fun. "They
just looked like they were really enjoying themselves and I thought
I'd like a bit of that fun and I am having an absolute ball," she says.
The former The Glass House panellist, Rove Live regular and current
Mix FM radio personality played to crowds around the country earlier
this year as she took her stand up show, Have My Stuff, on the road.
She's even penning a book of the same name about her excessive
hoarding, which will be published by Allen and Unwin later this year.
"Seriously, I used to keep everything – from old train tickets to hair
scrunchies. I even found a wisdom tooth" she admits.
And through the subsequent purging of her apartment, Corinne decided
to nominate the BROTHERHOOD OF ST LAURENCE – who received a number of
her items – as her charity for Dancing With The Stars.
"They are really proactive in helping people and are not just about
handing out, but reaching out and giving those in need a hand up," she
says.
