Rowe goes from Dancing With The Stars.

Shaking her stuff to a Samba, Journalist and News Presenter Jessica
Rowe tonight left Dancing With The Stars.

Jessica and her professional dance partner Serghei Bolgarschii scored
14 out of 40 from the judges. The public vote was added to the judges
scores and resulted in the dance duo polling the lowest and therefore
departing Dancing With The Stars.

Jessica said tonight 'I came on board as I just really wanted to have
some fun. I had a really tough twelve months and decided to do
something that would make me laugh, feel good and reclaim myself'.

'I worked really really hard and I'm feeling so proud'.

New Dances
Disco Most Disco dances have strong roots in Swing, Samba, Cha Cha,
Mambo, Merengue, Fox Trot and Tango. The Hustle is believed to have
originated in New York in 1970. It went through many variations in the
1970s, with line dances for groups of people, solo movements that came
and went, and partnership dances. These partnership dances included
The Basic Hustle, Latin, Spanish and Tango Hustle, and the most
popular Street, Three-Count or Swing Hustle that originated in
California as the street Hustle by skaters in Venice and Malibu. Disco
is often danced to contemporary pop music of the last 20 years.
Kouta stays alive
Salsa Salsa is a Spanish word, which when translated literally means
"sauce". Hot, spicy, and full of exotic Latin flavour, the dance is
true to its name. In terms of footwork, steps in all directions are
normally taken first with the ball of the foot in contact with the
floor, and then with the heel lowering when the weight is fully
transferred. The hip action is usually relaxed and subtle, especially
for men. In general, arms are held at or slightly above waist level.
The Salsa hold is considerably more relaxed than the basic Latin hold,
allowing for more freedom of arm movement.

Argentine Tango The Argentine Tango is a social dance that originated
in the bars, clubs and brothels of Argentina in the late 1880s. With
less expressive and more intimate movements than the Ballroom Tango,
the Argentine Tango is characterised by close embraces and a definite
lead and follow pattern. It's danced in an embrace that can vary from
open, in which the leader and follower connect at arms length, to very
closed, in which the connection is chest-to-chest, or anywhere in between.

Ballroom
Modern Waltz In the early 19th Century another turning dance, the
"Waltzen", became popular in many parts of Germany and Austria, with
local variants being called after their area. The popular step from
Landl ob der Enns in upper Austria became known as the Landler.
Meanwhile, a more sedate form of the fast Viennese Waltz evolved in
America around 1834, known originally as the Boston. The modern waltz
is said to be a combination of the Landler and the Boston derived in
England about 1910.

Modern Tango The Modern Tango is probably a result of Spain's Flamenco
dance merging with the African slave dance the Tangano, and a host of
other folk dances infiltrating South America. In the Buenos Aires
slums in the late 19th century, they both merged with the Habanera – a
Cuban folk dance – to provide a new step; the Milonga. Originally the
Milonga was a soft private dance, with emphasis on leg movements. In
Paris in the 1930's, it was combined with other ballroom dances and
given a staccato action, moving the emphasis to the torso and head, a
characteristic which remains.

FoxtrotOne story says it was introduced as the Castle Walk into
nightclub performances of Vernon and Irene Castle, and popularised by
Harry Fox in the stage show Ziegfeld Follies in New York in 1913 - and
named after him. Others say it mimicked the gait of a horse, or even a
fox. Regardless, the step was fashionably rebellious against 19th
Century dancing, as it used parallel feet rather than turned out feet
used in Victorian dances. About 1922, the trotting steps were
discarded for a less energetic movement called the Saunter and by 1927
it was called the Slow Foxtrot with gliding movements.

Quickstep As Ragtime music evolved into Swing through the 1920s, new
dances the Charleston, Shimmy and the Black Bottom became popular in
America. Elements of these three dances, popularised on stage by the
Ziegfeld Follies became absorbed into a faster version of the Foxtrot
after a visit by Paul Whiteman's band to the UK in 1923. The
Charleston step and the Scatter Chasses were introduced into the
Quickstep by Wally Fryer and Vi Barnes in London in the 1940s.

Latin
Rumba The Dance of Love, the Rumba is the most sensual of Latin dances
with the lady dominating the man using her womanly charms.
Incorporating teasing and withdrawal, partners dance to each other not
the audience.
Leeanne and Dicko perform a red hot rumba
Samba The word Samba is supposedly derived from a West African Bantu
word meaning "to pray" or invoke spirits of ancestors. It is said to
be a dance that can send people into a trance. It is danced annually
at Rio's Carnivale.
Brodie sizzles
Jive From its start in 1927, the Jive shocked adults who tried to ban
it. American GIs in World War II took it to Europe but it was danced
underground due to its "corrupting influence". It's a variation of the
Jitter Bug adding rock'n'roll and swing.

Paso DobleThe Paso Doble is a Spanish gypsy dance based on the
bullfight. The man represents the bullfighter, Torero, and the lady
his red cape or cappa. It is danced to the characteristic march music
used for the procession at the beginning of a corrida.
Chris and Trenton do the Paso Doble
Cha Cha When the English dance teacher Pierre Lavelle visited Cuba in
1952, he saw the Rumba danced with extra beats. He returned to Britain
and began teaching these steps as a new dance.

Elka Graham departs Dancing With The Stars.

Dancing the Paso Doble, Olympic Swimmer Elka Graham left this week.

Elka and her professional dance partner Michael Wojcik scored 27 out
of 40 from the judges. The public vote, when combined with the judges
ranking from last week, resulted in dance duo polling lowest and
therefore being eliminated.

Elka said 'Dancing the Paso Doble was the most fun I've had so far. To
go out on a bang like that and to hear the judges say you are
improving each week is amazing. I can't ask for anything more'.

'One day if I'm blessed enough to get married I will definitely be
calling Michael to get some killer dance moves for my wedding!'

With the music each, what happens is we work together with the dancers
to decide what songs they want, they got to like what they are doing,
so in general they decide, and they let us know and we go, oh yeah
that's really nice and that's an exciting piece for the show.

Sometimes, depending on the dancers we make suggestions, as some
dancers are more assertive than others, some are more sure of what
they want than others, and some dancers are more open to suggestions,
so it depends on the couple we have. I have from time to time made
suggestions to them but you know I'm not really going to give them
suggestions that probably get them in trouble. I remember one year, I
did suggest the Foo Fighters track to Alicia Molik and she left
dancing to that, so it was a little bit controversial. With song
choice, it's more about us saying we like the song rather than we tell
them what to do, they always choose the song but we do have to work
together to edit it down, we don't do a five minute song, we do about
a minute and half, so we work together to make sure we make that the
edit interesting and something people can enjoy.

So that takes a little bit of time and then we have to go through this
decision of speed which is always a controversial issue with the
judges, of course there are a lot of nervousness about dancing with
the right tempo, but again the dancers decide what speed they want, we
agree on a tempo and I make sure I give them what they need.

Sometimes they come to rehearsals and go oh can we have it faster or
slower and then we change the speed accordingly and obviously
sometimes the celebrity dancers might not able to cope with the tempo,
or sometimes they have improved so much that the professional dancers
feel that they can speed it up for them.

So each week, I have to rehearse the band first. There is a regular
band; including six brass, two singers, two guitars, one on drums, one
percussion, one bass, and myself, so there is a basic of fourteen
people always and then there are strings, the strings vary from six to
eight people, depending on the night, sometimes we have French horn
also, this week we are going to have French horns and tubas because
there are some big numbers.

We rehearse the songs on a Monday, and then we put it down on a CD for
them to do a quick rehearsal with the music on Mondays, and really for
the dancers the only chance to rehearse with the band is on Tuesday
afternoons when we do a show run. They have two runs with the band and
really that's about it; live shows they go by pretty quickly. We just
get the rehearsal time, but we are professionals, so we are ready for
the situation, I've got a good band of great musicians.

I do watch them dance during rehearsals, I have to make sure it all
fits, and sometimes they come and go, I need a change something or add
this bit, so there are a lot of interaction involved to get it right
within the short time they have. We aim to please; we try to make sure
that the dancers are as comfortable as they can be when they are
performing, so they don't have to think about it, all they have to
really worry about is their performance.

This week we all really loved Luda's track, Bombon De Azucar, the band
sang along and it was a really blistering Latin track and they did a
fantastic routine to it, not that I watch a lot of it when I play
because I have to concentrate on what I'm doing, but the bits I saw
from the corner of my eyes were good. All of the Foxtrot music, Frank
Sinatra's Blue Moon and Witchcraft, are always fantastic to play; it's
so nice and romantic, and of course La Bamba for Patti is a favourite,
I love every song that we played this week. I love the Latin numbers,
they are a bit challenging to play, but once you get it together, it
really suits having brass, it's always very exciting when we have to
do Salsa, it's a highlight for me.

I think Corinne was really good, to be honest, I was a little bit
shocked and disappointed that she left, I love all her little video
packages, she is very funny, and she is a really nice girl. You get
disappointed every week when someone goes, it's the nature of the
beast, but I was kind of surprised that she went so early, to me she
had a lot of potential, but I'm only a musician.

Next week, Delta will be on the show. We are all excited that she is
coming on, we love her music and we are looking forward to it, it will
be a great night and it's a big song. Also, there are some really big
songs for the dancers, including a classical piece, so we will have an
orchestra, and a choir for certain tracks, so it's a big show this
coming Tuesday, we are all very excited, it will be one of the biggest
shows for the series.

Corinne Grant shimmies off the dance floor.

Vamping it up on the dance floor, Comedian and TV/Radio Presenter
Corinne Grant was eliminated from the show this week.

Corinne and her professional dance partner Csaba Szirmai scored 28 out
of 40 from the judges. The public vote, when combined with the judges
ranking from last week, resulted in dance duo polling lowest and
therefore being eliminated.

Dancing the Salsa to Ricki-Lee's Can't Touch It, 'was my favourite...I
really had a ball doing that,' Corinne said.

Corinne joked 'Dancing with the Stars has been a lot more intense than
I thought it would be. It's kind of like a weird arranged marriage,
but I'm glad I was paired with Csaba and have loved every minute of it.'

Michael Klim freestyles off the dance floor.

Jiving to a Blue's Brother's classic, former Olympic swimmer Michael
Klim was the first celebrity to leave Dancing With The Stars when he
was eliminated from the competition.

Michael and his professional dance partner Eliza Campagna scored 19
out of 20 from the judges. The public vote, when combined with the
judges ranking from last week, resulted in dance duo polling lowest
and therefore being eliminated.

Michael's time in the competition was limited with the swimming
superstar admitting "it would have been great to hang around a bit
longer,"

"I feel I did the best I could have, had so much fun, and rose to the
level I wanted to be at...so I am pretty happy with that," said Michael.
