It makes no difference if the battery is in the rear of the car, and using a larger amperage alternator will have no effect on the battery apart from keeping...

If your alternator is dying but was working ok before, why not get it reconditioned? Chances are the brushes are worn and need replacing, 10 to 20 bucks should...
