On Thursday 20 March, community radio 2XX [98.3fm] presents the premiere of
the
UK film '24 Hour Party People'. The film, which stars Steve Coogan, is about
the
Manchester music scene, Factory Records and various bands such as the Happy
Mondays and New Order who were signed to that label. The film will be shown
at
Center Cinema at 7pm.

The film will be followed at 9pm by an 'after party' at Toast [above the
Electric Shadows bookshop in the city] for all ticket holders, at which
you'll
hear influential UK bands of the late 80s and early 90s.

Costs are:
$12 [concession & 2XX subscriber]
$14 [concession or 2XX subscriber]
$16 [full price]
$5 [admission to 'after party' only]

... and bloody good it was too. I hadn't seen that film for about four or
five years and it's amazing what you forget.

Tonight "Dogs In Space" is playing at Screensounds, starts at 7pm and
admission is $7/9 (thanks Jay!). It's a movie made in 1984 about punks and
drugs and stuff in melbourne, I haven't seen it though so I'm not entirely
sure. It has Michael Hutchence in it too.

After that (approx 9pm start) is JustBands magazine launch at UC bar,
admission is $7 or $8 and features local talents such as planets collide and
6 or 7 other bands.

Tomorrow Dungeon and Shatter Wrath and another band are playing at Rock Ape.

March 7th is also Lithium at Toast, starting at 8pm.

Yes I know this, Im from Sydney. However getting back
there involves money and since I only just moved there
from here. That does not exsist on my plane of
reality. But thanks for the suggestion anyway.

At the moment ... possibly it is.

Sydney's not too far away though; Vortex is on this weekend.

Please dont tell me canberra has gotten even more
mind-numbing than it was a year ago. I shall go have a
squiz at your postings.

Umm Aree Bar "metal/industrial" night, dont somehow
think its my thing. Im sure the most 'industrial' they
get is Rammstein, which no offense to those who like,
is no EN, why cant there be some good synth pop, or
EBM?? Is it too much to ask.

Anyway now Im ranting.

Does anyone know when Dire will kick back in this
year??

For a while there was Contempt & Lithium both running at Toast but they are
no longer going, clubs wise there's nothing official now. Narcissus had an
outdoor NYE gathering and I've been posting things I've found that someone
may be interested in at http://www.livejournal.com/~canberragoths , although
it tends to read like a Rock Ape schedule ;)

Apparently Aree Bar have been doing a "metal/industrial" night but I haven't
heard much of it, I suspect it would be Korn and the like...

This Friday and Saturday (7th and 8th of February) Rock Ape are having a
thing to raise money to help out the regulars who lost their houses. Entry
is $10 for one night or $15 for both, I don't know which bands are playing
but I know Bloody Mary will be there.

Hope to see you all there helping these people out!

There's a festival by the name of Japanime which is coming to Canberra from
the 8th to the 10th of November. It's being held at Electric Shadows Cinema,
which is below where Lithium was held.

Cowboy Bebop is playing at 7pm on the 9th of November, so who wants to meet
up for:

1. Dinner at 5:30 somewhere close to Electric Shadows, then Cowboy Bebop at
7.
2. Electric Shadows at 6:45, something else/home after.

Tickets are $14.50 for adults, $12 concession and $11 for <15 children and
Club Dendy members.

Tell your friends, leave a comment here if you have anything to say. This
will also be cross posted to ACG, GothicCanberra and DIREClub (see
canberragoths info). If you have problems with transport or anything, speak
up and we may sort something out between us.

Ok, so it isn't exactly pretty, but i've finally been
able to update the old website (and i have absolutely
no prior knowledge of HTML, so please be kind on me -
i've tried my hardest, honestly!! *L*). I seem to have
lost the msg board in the process, but at least the
information in the other sections is now at least
relevant and up to date. Any suggestions of what you'd
like to see on the brand new website are welcome.

Also, the same old reminders again:

we now have 5 people for the 2xx movie trivia night, 5
more and we'll be able to get a team discount. Please
RSVP by MONDAY (27th May) so i can see about booking
tickets.

I've so far had no response for the DIRE film nights -
the first starting the 31st - as far as video
suggestions. however this night is still TBA, so
please get back to me on this one too.
