Hello Everyone,
The Digital Learning Initiative is coming to a close for
2007, and as a final addition to the research we are planning to conduct a focus
group with students who have participated in the trial over the past year. The
focus group will give you an opportunity to tell us about your experiences with
the project in far more detail than was possible with the surveys, and help
guide us in developing Swinburne's learning technology infrastructure in the
years to come.
The session will be held from 2-4pm on November 22, with light refreshments
being provided. If you are interested in participating, please email me at
mfinn@... to book a place.

just to round out our semester and to give us a sense of closure, I would like
to put all of your projects on display at our Media Project Presentation evening
on the 28th November. This is an event that allows all project students to
display their work to us and each other. Seeing other people's work and letting
them see yours is important! We also have a glass or two and some cheese and
biscuits!
I will let you know the venue and time closer to the date but it will be here at
the Hawthorn campus and is usually held from 5-7pm. Please come and see me
anytime before the 14 November if you need any help at all.

Please advise me if you are interested in this position.
We are looking for a volunteer / intern (or potentially two) to work with us
over the summer. The successful applicant would be mentored and trained by
our two media advisors who are currently working on 1, 6 and 12 month media
strategies for Burma and the Australia Burma Network.
Our media advisors are:
1. Louise Perry, currently Media Advisor to The Treasurer of Victoria,
John Lenders and previously journalist at The Australian.
2. James Rose, speaker, commentator, media advisor, freelance writer
and editor for 15 years. Former Asia-Pacific editor for Ethical Corporation,
former columnist with Investorweb, former advisor to the Australian
Democrats, former adivsor to the Special Ambassador of the UN World Food
Program, current columnist with 'the Standard' (Hong Kong).
I have attached the position description and would greatly appreciate it if
you can forward the information to whomever may look after intern
placements, through the appropriate staff and student networks, or if
you know of students who would be particularly suited to this role.
(Additionally we are interested in students to work with us on our website -
which you may notice needs a bit of work! - www.australiaburmanetwork.org).
We encourage both undergraduates and postgraduates to apply. We realise that
it is the end of semester for students, however we are hopeful to find
someone able to take up the role, at what is, currently a crucial time for
Burma.

Dear All
Forgive the generic greeting! And apologies for asking for anything at this
busy time....
Nicki Lee has asked me to email you to ask, if it would be possible for you to
email the link to this survey, to any of your students who have been undertaking
group project assessment tasks this semester.
I have attached an explanation for students. A similar survey was conducted in
1st semester. However we only had 67 responses so I am hoping to do better this
semester!
The survey is part of research to support the university wide move towards final
year project units that Nicki is undertaking.
Your support would be much appreciated.
If you know of any academics who are convening other subjects with group
projects please feel free to forward this to them!

RANDOM House, the world's biggest book publisher, is considering joining a
book-search project run by Google, once considered an arch-enemy by the
paper publishing industry.
The two parties are talking to one another about the less controversial part
of Google's book-scanning project, its partner program, sources with
knowledge of the matter told Reuters at this week's Frankfurt Book Fair.
Google has agreements with more than 10,000 publishers, large and small, who
give their books to Google to be scanned in full.

get well soon...
barry and i are in the process of formulating a rough storyboard
we've browsed some of the motif material
things beginning to take shape
ie: instead of using the entire text from a written interview, just pluck out
relevant questions and quotes, and locate these alongside some striking images/
audio grabs (1 module perhaps) ?
create a new video from fragments of both video interviews and voxpops,
(layperson, journalist, theorist) and perhaps interseperse these with visuals of
text moving toward the user on the ken burns effect (a 2nd module)
will check out the dreamweaver stuff
cheers
