Thanks for the nice words. Hope you find that cheque ;-)
If you, or anyone else has broadband (3 Mb download) and wants to see the video, please let me know and I will send it. The boat was carrying a heavy tender, a bunch of tools, 4 adults, full tanks and the owners live aboard gear. Not too extreme, but Blind Date will be about two thirds the weight so should be much quicker.
Congrats for all the good work, looks very promising! I would say a cruiser sailing at 11.5kn in 15kn wind _with_a_dirty_hull_ is far from bad!!! No production cruising cat in the 11-12m range I know of would do that, except maybe an empty Outremer.
If I can find back this damn AUD250k cheque I'll let you know ;-)
Probably when the hull is scraped the close to the wind performance will be (even) better.
Looking forward to see tze pics and videos.
How was the boat loaded for the test sail?
Cheers, Dominique

Top speed was 11.5 knots by gps, the local weather centre got a top of 15 knots wind speed for the day. Sailing at windspeed should not be a problem when the boat is sorted. It tacked through 100 degrees at about 7.5 knots. Under motor, we did 8 knots and turned either way in 2-3 boat lengths. Shunting took 40 seconds, but will be half this with a bit of practise. Rig balance was good, the carbon mast track worked a treat as did the open topped boom. Helm balance was reasonable, will be improved with a bit of rake tweaking. > > Luke Timmerman came along for the sail and took some photos and a video. With a bit of luck, he will post his impressions of the boat in the near future. Sometime between now and New Year we will get some off the boat photos and videos of the boat sailing. These will be posted on the web page as soon as possible. > > All in all, a very successful day, enhanced by an order for 1,000m of 80mm x 2.5mm wall carbon tube using a variation of the technique we used on the masts. Because of the bulk buying savings, we are selling this at $AUS120 per metre, up to 10.5m lengths. The following day, I did an Outleader kite demonstration on a 12m cruising mono. Put it up in 25 knots, hit 10 knots under perfect control, had the cheque before we had finished tying up. > > regards, > > rob
