Re: [harryproa] Re: Folding Beams

Gidday
I think you miss the point with the folding version
My opinion of the main purpose of the system is to make it trailable. If getting
into docks is the requirement then there are plenty of small mono's for sale.
The ability to hardstand/trail your boat has many advantages like touring, lakes
sailing, bay sailing even easy transport overseas etc.
But in the end you have the boat to SAIL.

Your right, but there will have to be some really definitive sailing
advantages proven to indicate that this is the necessary boat to fit
into a slip. On the regular sized Harry you will have width and
length problems to make it an attractive comparative proposition to a
shorter foldable trimaran. There are definite Proa format advantages
for what I want from a boat, but I would be hard pressed to see it if
the whole thing has to be designed to reduce easily to 27x8. When it
starts to beat comparatively rated trimarans we may have something I
proposed the removable bows some time ago, but really if one needs a
small yacht to be campaigned from a slip is this thing the answer?
Obviously there are all kinds of nice small spots it would be cool to
sneak into. It just depends how many construction hours and dollars
one wants to budget for. One theory has it that the rig on one hull
allows very much lighter beams, that might also be much easier to
design for folding, however, so far, the beams have been designed
pretty ruggedly.

... At the small end of the spectrum it's the trailing *height* restriction that matters. It's easy enough to trail the boat on its side, or at some angle in ...

That wouldn't be me, I'm just responding to the view that there are non trailering advantages to folding, which is correct. It would be a great think to have...
