Am I imagining it or are more and more people stopping and staring at
the P driving by/parked/etc.

Gave the old girl a decent clean up and people stop and stare, remark
on the car when I park it, at least 3 times today...feeling more and
more like a celebrity!

I will be picking up and paying for the Force 7 models on Wednesday
night. We would very much appreciate it if all clubs could send their
money in as we cant afford to carry the $5,000 odd debt. Vic Club
what are you doing? How many of your model allocation do you want? SA
Club I havent heard from you at all. Do you want any models? NSW
Classic Club you also havent confirmed any numbers. You all need to
get back to me otherwise your model allocation will be distributed to
other clubs.

Closer to home is Spectrum Rubber at Dunheved (Mount Druitt) Theses guys
actually make the seals for the other people. They generally keep one of
each in stock & the door seals are better than the Leyland item. I have
found the Leyland item to be too stiff & dense, making the door hard to
close & not sealing correctly. There were two types of genuine seals.. A
pillow shape (later type) & a square shaped profile. Different people prefer
different types but I found both to be junk. I had a set of NOS door seals
(later type with orange clips) & was so disgusted with them I sold them on
Ebay.

   Hope this helps

After 2 years away at the body shop and paint shop, my project is
finally home for the big refit. I just added some photos of the car
leaving the paint shop for the trip home. Now I have to put it back
together. What have I gotten myself into?

Thanks Steve & Mark.
I didn't do too much though...all the credit goes to Col
Gardiner (Editor ACT P76 Owner Club). He did all the hard work (Wrote
the text, took some of the photo's & organised everything). All I did
was turn up with a clean car & let him do the rest. Col did try to get
a photo of me, but I reckon It would have spoiled the article!
      I hope everyone has a safe & happy Christmas & New Year...use
some of those days off to work on or drive your P76. Only 3 months
till the Nationals....cant Wait!

Well done Jason. Great article. Didnt see your ugly mug in any photos
though. In comparison you could have made the P look good to the
knockers :)

I saw the guy who is willing to take on the job of assembling and
painting the models tonight. He is quoting a price of $45 to $50 each
which is very reasonable. So if you want your model done think up
what colour scheme you want. It can be the same as the original Force
7 or any colour combo you want.

Jason,

12 years ago I made the transition to 15" wheels. I guess if I still had the beast I would by now be on 16" tyres to play the sillly marketing game. I kept a set of Targa 14" alloys/tyres to put on for car shows set to keep the purist's happy, chuckle, chuckle.

Cheers,

Geoff

Yes...The 14" tyre choice is shrinking. I recently went through
this with my Super ( yes that PETROL Super!). I wanted 205/70/14 which
was once a common tyre but found very little in a "name brand" tyre.
There were Kumho, Nankang,Etc,at around $85.00 each then there was a
BIG jump to Michelin XM1 at $150 each. I dug a bit deeper & found that
bridgestone did a Turanza ER-60 which I got for $99.00 each, but they
were difficult to get. They seem very nice... I will get another 5 for
the Taxi if I can as they are "marked for deletion" on the Bridgestone
website.

The choice for good tyres for 14 inch rims are getting smaller these
days..I use toyo touring radial P195 75 R 14 and find them very good
and about $95 each. Any other recommendations on good tyres?

Can tell you now you'll be in for a shock once the delays come through, most regional centres in Victoria put there prices up last Wednesday between 64 and 74 cpl for LPG.

Hi Jason,
Costs between $55 and $70 to fill the deluxe up running regular, but
a mate of mine is using the car lately and he runs premium in it, so

not giving it back as he and his fiance (or however you spell it)
like driving it too much!

Im running a holley 350 with the gas plugged straight into the back
of each barrel behind the venturi's, and mine seems to go alright.
Is yours straight gas?
I am hoping to (when i can afford to) run a willpower on mine and
possibly go gas research with the twin throt bodies, and I was
thinking, could you use this setup and just wind in a few fuel
injectors as well? I like having duel fuel. Any thoughts?

PS. Definatly looking 4ward to nationals and having a good look at

You might have been better to get earlier model (XA/XB) steel rims. I'm running
15" Cragar multi
fits with 245 and 225 tyres on my P now for 8 years without problems. i did
have to get 10mm
spacers fitted to the rims first tho for clearance purposes.

Hope this is some help.

Dixie

Hi Jason,
Costs between $55 and $70 to fill the deluxe up running regular, but
a mate of mine is using the car lately and he runs premium in it, so
im not sure what he's spending. He told me just yesterday that he's
not giving it back as he and his fiance (or however you spell it)
like driving it too much!

"What does P76 say about us?? Anything
but average I guess."
Very well said mate, like your style haha,
Adam

PS. Definatly looking 4ward to nationals and having a good look at
your cars. Again, funds permiting..... :)

I am still jealous of your dilemma

The LPG efi I do not know much about it.

Where I work we have a Factory LPG AU and it is great to drive, mind you
the rest of the fleet are Yaris's. but running costs and usage are
respectively low and high.

It certainly has changed my view of LPG and if buying again for the fleet I
will not hesitate to buy LPG,

there is no question on which is better to drive.

John, Yes...Efi V8 is also very tempting, but will end up with the
same result...Altering an original car. I am going to try LPG Efi on the
green car to see if I can improve its performance/economy over the carb
version when I finish my other projects. On your comment regarding the fuel
Excise,2.5 cents per litre will be added each year, starting next year &
will be capped at 12.5cpl by 2015. Even though LPG consumption can be as
much as 30% higher on some vehicles & adding in the 12.5 cpl increase, I can
still see it as a viable alternative fuel source.

There still seems to be a lot of bias against LPG out there in the
market place. I dont know why that is, especially in older cars, where with
inefficient petrol carbs & manifolds, adding LPG actually makes the car
smoother & easier to drive...I guess its just "Each to their own"...thats
what is good about cars...they are an expression of our characters...What
does P76 say about us?? Anything but average I guess.

Hi all!...Thanks for your thoughts. You all seem to think the
same as me...I change my mind from one week to the next. I guess the
Super will remain a "Low mileage" car...I will just use the other 2 to
do the bulk of my "pleasure driving"...besides, it doesn't have air
cond either...but it does take up a parking spot..& I reckon P76's are
made to drive...

Adam, in reply to your posting...450k's out of a tank is pretty
good for your 4 speed deluxe, but that would be around $100 bucks
worth of petrol huh?? The Hairy lime car will do that on $50 bucks
worth. It is a 5 litre with a "Willpower" manifold. It is running an
OHG X450 LPG carb on a Rochester Quadrajet throttle base. It also has
extractors & T5 5 speed gearbox. It is smooth, quiet, powerful & cheap
to run. On a $/Km basis, it's about the same as my little Morris Nomad
(which needs premium unleaded)& there is no question on which is
better to drive.

Wouldn't convert anything to LPG anymore the Government (previous) killed the golden goose when it introduce a Tax on Gas which starts in 2008 and will ramp up over the next 3 years negating any benefit that the price advantage had over petrol.  Remember while it may be cheaper the gap will soon narrow between the price of LPG and Petrol with the new taxes.  Given the extra fuel consumed the days of it's cost advantage are truly numbered.  Be better of converting to fuel injection and lowering your fuel consumption that way we've a P76 V8 powered 97 Pajero using only 11.5 litres per 100 k imagine what it would do in the much lighter P76?

Hey guys we should be compassionate.  Jason has a dilemma but look at the upside, he owns by all rights a bloody nice car, the horrendous cost og go go juice is a n impediment to driving good cars, if you think the P is heavy on gas come and fill up my TBirds, I lease a B Double fuelie to follow me around so I do not get stuck between suburbs.  The reality is with limited driving and with the sort of care and attention Jason has demonstrated on the hairy lime car he will end a great motor vehicle and example of P76's.

Personally I would love to see him keep it and Jason clearly recognises the cars value in original condition.

Hi JB,
I feel that you should sell it and buy my white executive instead, same shape (sorry  a few dints and paint missing here and there) but it has gas already, knocking engine few more miles too. Asking $10000.
Cheers
Adrian

Got a "Dilemma" thats been going through my head for ages, so I
thought I would put it on the Forum to judge peoples reactions. I have
a Super V8 auto...Very clean & original...I am the 2nd owner...I
bought it with 35,000 miles ( In a shed for 20 years) it now has
52,000 miles. It's a lovely car to drive...but it costs heaps to run.
I also have the Hairy lime car which is on LPG, then there is the Taxi
Replica which will Also be on LPG...the running costs on these cars
are less than 1/2 of the Super... (The hairy lime car did 16,000 km's
last year..& it's not a daily driver) So the Super never gets driven.
The Super is on club plates so Rego is cheap every year, but I hate
seeing it parked there never driving it. Would putting the Super on
LPG "ruin it"??? I mean take away from it's originality. ...Make it
worth less money?? I know that would mean no more club rego, but I
could share the driving between Three cars & like I said...It's good
to drive.

Your Thought???

JB

James is anything known about the Marina PV in the photo? Also like
the nose of the Yellow Force in the foreground.
