having sold the occasional car privately the protocol here in Sth Oz seems to be the potential buyer just hands you his car keys without asking, either that or his licence.

Subject: [melbourne_twist_go_scooters] RE: [MelbourneSC] Allowing test rides when selling privately

I have decided to buy a new Bolwell Firenze 250cc scooter and will be placing an order this week.  I have just listed my existing Peugeot Speedfight Prost on eBay and will see how it goes.  It only costs $5 to list so it seems like worth a try to me.

What is the normal procedure when selling privately for allowing test rides?  I will check with my insurer RACV but assuming an interested buyer has a valid learners or full license, would you let them ride off for half an hour or so or would you follow them in the car?  The few test rides I have had through dealers have been very casual with them just taking a photocopy of my license and then saying “see you in half an hour or so”.

Subject: [MelbourneSC] Twist and Go Group Ride Today

Thanks fellow scooterists for making today's ride.  The weather smiled at us and we had a safe trip to Frankston and back.

We would love to know who was the group of scooterists turning from Kerford Road to Beaconsfield Parade at approx 11:00am this morning.  Can anyone throw any light on the matter?

Next group ride will be on Sunday 25 June - the intention is to do a loop of Eltham, Yarra Glen, Lilydale and then back to Melbourne.  The starting place is to be confirmed but possibly in Carlton.

As before, all scooters, not just twist and go, are welcome.  Motor bikes are also welcome.

Well, you could import one of those heated snowmobile helmets from
Canada-but they wouldn't be tested for Aussie standards,so that
wouldn't be exactly legal. You could try and find a breath shield that
fits you helmet, depending on thier fit around your nose, they can have
some effectivness.Catcrap your fogcity insert and keep lifting your
visor as required.
Look in the car accessory shops for an anti-mist cloth for the inside
of windsceens.Maybe stick a sunglass holder around the instruments
area and stuff the cloth in there for easy reach whenever you are
stationary.
Anyway,ya gotta die of something,right?

The only way it seems to keep clear is if I keep the visor partly
open and then I cry all the way with the wind in my eyes.

There's no magic bullet. I ride with the visor just slightly open. Some of
those gels are supposed
to help somewhat, but not completely (and you need to reapply regularly). I
have a neck warmer
that I can pull up over my mouth (and direct the warm air down) that I haven't
used yet, which I
expect to help a little. I've also see a device you use similarly that's
designed for that
specifically - I saw it at Moto One in Oakleigh, but you can probably get it at
Peter Stevens or any
reasonable size motorcycle shop.

I am planning a coffee and ride for those interested next Sunday, 28
May.

ALL scooters are welcome, also motorbikes and even powered trikes if
you want. I would hate to think we tried to be exclusive and didn't
like others because they rode something different (very intolerant).

I suggest we meet at the kiosk in Beaconsfield Parade at the end of
Kerferd Road (it has a name but the name escapes me). It is on the
beach side of the Beasconsfield Parade and next to the Albert Park
Yachting and Angling Club. There is off road parking where we can
sit and admire our scoots as we have a coffee.

I suggest we meet at 10:00am and head off about 10:30am to Frankston
following Beach Road. I have no particular reason to go to Frankston
other than the route is one that smaller scoots like my Bella 100 can
manage - there are no speed zones over 80 and even the bigger scoots
will keep to the speed.

I hope the weather co-operates and we do not get crap weather. Even
if the weather is crap I will at least go for the coffee.

Love to know if any of you are interested.

Lesley

What, Martyn, not an early morning person???

I am adaptable - let's make it 10:00am.  It will give me time to do the ironing before I leave LOL.

Hope that suits others too.

Lesley

PS - can someone please pass this on to melbournesc as I seem to be having some problems with my emails.

Hi Vivian,

The 250 Majesty was OK on the freeway - in fact I even toured on it from Melb to Adelaide, many 400Km day trips and over Mt Hothan at least 3 times - One of my Mt Hotham trips was in the middle of winter - snow, ice , fog - the lot - but it was fun.  Also went into Central Australia.  In my 3 years of Majesty ownership I covered a bit over 50,000km.

I fitted a throttle lock and on really long trips I would wind the throttle wide open then apply the lock - depending on the terain my speed would vary between 90 and 120 kph actual (the speedo was reading up to 135kph) and I would get about 250 km between refills - this was how I covered the distance when I rode  Adelaide to Coober Peedy.

The key to safe freeway riding is to stay in the centre of your lane and match your speed to the traffic around you.  If you travel slower than the traffic and leave enough room cars will try to squeeze past.  Now, think about that - when we are on our scoots and the traffic is slow (or even stoped), if the cars leave enough room we often squeeze past them as well.  So in fact the car drivers are acting a bit like us.  BTW I ALWAYS wear a high visibility vest over whatever I have on when I am on freeways or country roads - you can pick them up at industrial safety stores for about $50.

If you have a scoot that can cruse at 110kph you will be fine on any freeway in Australia - so that really means you want something that is happy at 110, not something that is flat out at 110.  Have you looked at the Bolwell 200?

regards

Skutr

Hi Skutr,

Oh.... even you ride on a 250 Majesty and still felt cant really keep
up out of the speedsters on Eastern Fwy?

I am thinking to get a 125 or 150cc scooter after awhile off of
scooter since my Speedfight 100cc been written off after an accident.

I think Lesley might not ride on the Freeway on the Bella 100, when I
was on my speedfight 100, i hate to ride on freeway, because when the
drivers saw a scooter, they will just try their best to over take you
but they always pull back right in front of you too.  Then I end up go
thru Kew from city to Doncaster East, rather than on Eastern Fwy.
Even I am on my 250cc motorbike on Fwy in the morning on the T2 lane,
they still over take me within the same lane I am riding on whatever I
do ride 100-110kph .  I hate that!

Hi everyone,

I saw the cataloge of Kymco/Bug scooter and they have a new model
Agility 125cc, European style, with a very good price for a 125cc
scooter!

Anyone test ride it yet? or know anything about it?

I will go for a test ride someday shortly, I had test ride the NEW
Honda Lead 100 on the HART Open day, the max speed I can go is around
80kph, but the dash board marked up to 110kph, maybe it is not run in
yet, so I can go 90 or 100kph on it.

As my boyfriend test ride the @125, he only could reach 85-90kph on
it.

Anyone has a Bowell Bella 125cc? what's the max speed you can reach?

Hi Folks,

Just had to do this and saved a heap by doing it myself.  If anyone is interested, here is how I did it.

To do both front and rear wheels took less than one hour. No special tools are needed, but you will need some loctite 248 (the blue stuff - do NOT use the red loctite!).

I got the disks and pads from

http://www.metalgear.com.au/index.htm

If you want to faint - get a quote from a Yamaha dealer for the Yamaha sourced parts!

Procedure is:

1. Remove the brake caliper assembly

2. remove wheel.

3. remove the 6 socket head screws holding the disk in place. I was concerned about possible damage to the socket heads, expecting the screws to be very tight so I purchased a hex driver designed for use with an impact driver (instead of using a simple Allen key) and used that for the screw removal and replacement. Turned out that the screws were not that tight after all. BTW in the workshop manual it recommends replacing the screws with new - bollocks, take your time, use the loctite and you will be fine using the originals.

4. Lift off the disk then put the new one in position

5. refit the six screws putting some loctite 248 (the blue stuff - NOT the red type!) on the screw threads before you fit them. Tighten them in gentle stages in a crisscross pattern to 18Nm (1.8 m.kg). Be sure to use a tension wrench when refitting the screws as it is critical that they are tightened evenly.

6. Reinstall the wheel

7. Fit the new pads to the brake caliper

8. Reinstall the brake caliper

9. Time for a cup of tea!

10. Now do the other wheel.

Phew - its taken me almost as long to type this as it did to do the job!

Regards

Skutr

Hello Benelli 250 here. So what's the plan? Meet up with MSC for
rides, but have a twist and go chat area, or something separate
altogether?
