The Mockingbird is the story of a second-hand novel, a one-way plane ticket, and some limes.
Tom, Dick and Harry move into a big house on Cleaver Street – a definitive bachelor pad that they christen Cleavage. Cleavage houses parties, girls, sexual liaisons (or dreams thereof), and an abundance of liquor and music. People crash on the floor, sneak into the residents’ beds in the early hours, and the lights never
go out. The whirlwind of freedom and debauchery breezes between the walls, while the bathroom turns furry and the floor grows sticky.
Between the roof and the loft bed, Dick realises that his willingness to accommodate girls has turned his life inside out. After all, a girl is why he’s here…
The Mockingbird combines storytelling, comedy, music and physical theatre to tell a tale inspired by the rediscovery of a second-hand copy of Harper Lee’s classic novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. The show explores a life steered by close friends, romances, and opportunities provided by chance, where a one-way plane ticket sets the deadline for a life-changing decision.
Pete Lead has toured around Australia with comedy and improv shows at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Cracker Comedy Festival and BrizImprovFest. He performed in the Sydney premiere of Urinetown: The Musical and, more recently, in Terry Pratchett’s Men at Arms at the Seymour Centre. He was Artistic Director of Sydney’s first improvised comedy festival, the Twisted Melon Impro Festival. At the Old Fitzroy Theatre, Pete has appeared in
Twisted Melon’s Like There’s No Tomorrow (2006) and BLANK the Musical (2007). He returns there with the premiere of his one-man show.
The Mockingbird is honest, funny, and a little bit sexy.
We trust that you're well - and if not, the next two Tuesday nights will cure what ails ya. See you soon!
With much melonly love,
Keira & Pete
