Gday Folks

I am a new listmember from Melbourne OZ. I have a small collection of
1936-39 hillman minxes and 14s that I am restoring. I am keen to
develop my knowledge and access to repairs and parts.

Hello Minx owners.

We have an original `49 Minx in excellent mechanical condition
and we're looking to sell it, however, not sure what its worth or if
there is any interest in these cars. Can anyone assist? New
tyres, battery and just keeps on going.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Hi Folks

I have just joined the forum so I thought it appropriate to say
hello.

I have been restoring a complete basket case Sunbeam ALpine Series
III GT for the past two years, I expect to be driving it in a couple
of months.

I have quite a few mechanical spares, fuel tanks, wheels, (12 chrome
hub caps!!!!!) all sorts of bits & pieces left over form the resto.

As I have replaced or refurbished every screw bolt & washer on the
Alpine I have gained quite a lot of experience on alpines, so if I
can help at all with advice - just mail me
I would post a couple of photos of my Alpine if I knew how to

cheers

Gary

Just bought a BERTONE fiat X19 Taga coup, 1983 five speed 1500cc mid
mounted engine in very original but unrestored condition with 97,000
original Klms on the clock. The car is mechanically A1 but the paint
work is faded and stone chipped from being in the country.

I am organizing a safety cert for it at the moment but it has a
crack in the bottom left hand corner of the wind screen about 10cm
long which may nock it back. It was a good buy at $3500 unregistered
so as soon as it is on the road I will start the restoration.

I know its only 21 years old but my feeling is that as they dont
make cars like this any more our members might make an exception.
After all its hardly a 1985 Magna or somthing like that and im sure
it will be a classic one day. Well im in trouble again as we now
have four cars and I walk to work so I have trouble keeping the
batteries charged.

Just found this group and posted a couple of photos - The "Get Smart"
Alpine box into the Add Rootes Photos album and my Tatra into the
Other Makes album.

Had a long history of Rootes cars - passed my driving test in my dad's
1950 Minx, then owned a '58 convertible Rapier SII, 3 Super Snipe
Estates (SII, SIII & SVa), 5 Alpines (SI, SII & 3 SVs - still got the
SII & 1 SV), an Imp Husky, Stiletto & a Tiger I (still got it).

Other classics have been a Gordon Keeble GK1 (still got it) and 2
Tatra 603 T2s (still got 1).

Up and coming classics are 2 Peugeot 205s (a GTI & a CTI - still got
both).

Currently letting the side down with an MG ZT-T 190+ (possibly the
first decent car ever to wear the MG badge!! - Shame it's not a
Sunbeam).

Interested in the front-page Minx - UK cars never had that side trim,
is it an OZ only version or an imported Isuzu Minx? (Do any of those
even survive?)

Anyway - thanks for setting up the group, the only other "Rootes
Groups" I know of are :-

<http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sunbeam_Tiger/>

Check the temperature gauge as well - if that's reading low too then
it's the instrument voltage regulator.

George,
I suspect it is the float on the actual sender unit it may have a
leak in it and be stuck at the bottom. Usually these floats are made
of brass and if you intend to solder or braise it be careful as they
can explode if petrol fumes ignite within the float itself.
Hopefully its just stuck and when you pull it out you will find the
problem. I had to make a new cork seal for the fuel tank when I did
this as the old one just broke up.

a problem with our 1725cc 1971 Hillman Hunter, the fuel gauge has
always played up but now it only manages to get onto the E from rest
even when the tank s over half full i have tryed playing with the

sender unit or the gauge itself has anyone had trouble like this
before?? its not a problem at the moment but i am hopeing to really
start useing the car in the summer again it will be a sort of a
return to use for the car that has only pottered about in the last
10 years so it helps to have a ruff idea how much fuel is on board.
Thanks i hope everyone is enjoying there cars.

stuff to the group as I have been flat out at work with a very time

managed to get the safety cert last week so I will probably get time
this friday to register it as she is on my back to get it on the

Hi,
All I just wondered whats going on out there with the old Hillmans
is everyone tucked up in there garage getting them ready for the
show season??
Today I got dads old Hunter back on the road i posted on here when
the group started and said that the car in question had belonged to
my garndfather then father well dad had not been useing it at all
for the last few months so the last couple of weeks i have been
getting it ready for use again the clutch had stuck and the brakes
but with all that sorted out i put the fresh battery off my Austin
Cambridge on it and off we went i had a lovely morning in it just
pottering around localy its so much more modern than my A60 but not
so modern its boreing i really enjoyed it and its got a bit more go
in it (quite alot !!) than the A60 and being in it riminded me of
being picked up from school in it by my grandfather then later on my
father and hoildays taken in it anyway when i got home i looked at
the wheels there is rust all over them so feeling in the mood to
tackle something i rubbed the two worse ones down put on some primer
then just started on the top coat and the sky that had been bright
bule with sunshine not 20mins earler turned grey and it rained
(infact it P!!!ed) all over my new paint now they look worse than
before i started i surpose that sods law and the fun of old cars.
All i can say if you have not taken your Hillman for a run for a
while ordoing a restoration carry on it will be worth it in the end
if the car is running then take it out i have not had such a
relaxing drive for a long long time.
Have Fun

HI,
Just thought I would say HI as I joined the list a few days ago.
I have lived around a Hillman Hunter since before I can rember it
was purchased by my grandfather in 1972 when it was six months old,
he died in 1983 and my father has owned it ever since it is know
starting to look a bit shabby body work wise alot of the paint has
falked off and there is rust in the wings and the doors but the
underside is first class it had new outerriggers a while ago and a
small patch on one sill the interior is first class still and it
runs very nicely as the clock is comeing up to 60,000 for the first
time!! it is not used much as dad is getting older and I feel uneasy
driveing it as much as I love it as it would be just my luck
something happens when I am driveing this wonderful old car that has
suriived nearly three genrations of the same family. Hopefuly one
day it will willl be retored to it former glory in the mean time its
seams happy still pottering around with dad. (they are both getting
old together and ruff round the edges!!) Me I drive a 1965 Austn
Cambridge and a 1970 Morris Oxford I know this list is not for them
so will shut up before I start!!! Anyway I have rattled on I was
only ment to say HI.
