Hello to you, first things first, I got your email, thank you. Not
arrived yet, but looking forward with anticipation!
The head is 'Tatiana' by Ali Hansen, an artist I particularly like, as
are the arms and legs and body pattern. The breast plate is by Audrey
Hamman - as you can see this one has boobs, Ali Hansen's cuts off
above the boobs. Experience has taught me that having moulded boobs
makes the doll easier to dress, the clothes hang so much better. I've
tried making stuffed boob rolls for one or two of my earlier dolls,
but I've never been really happy with the result.
I've bought blank bisque from Linda Plaskett in the US for our last
8-10 dolls now. She always produces stunning bisque ware, excellent
quality ready for painting. She knows her moulds, and has always been
able to suggest various options to get the finished effect we are
looking for. Naturally we make and stuff the bodies.
Although my doll has baby mittens and boots(!) to protect fingers and
feet, the fingers are all undercut, so I was able to paint a thin line
of white on both sides of the ends of the nails, IYSWIM.
I don't have my own kiln, we make our dolls with a lady who has since
become a very good friend. She lives a few miles away and has a doll's
hospital and shop. She has all the bits and pieces for all sorts of
doll making and craft work. There are a group of about 6 to 8 doll
makers who meet there, but there's no doubt, interest is definitely
dropping in the UK.
The doll is talking to me, but hasn't told me her name yet! I suspect
that'll come when I get to the wedding dress. :-)
