Ok folks sounds like you are all quiet which either means you are
busy,
or bored, or doing other things? I have had a dreadful winter here
and
just could not pour any slip! It was a nightmare, and when I went to
my dealers, they said it was nation wide!

People had orders but they just couldn't fulfil them. The days are
just gorgeous here now that Spring is arriving although the mornings
and nights are still cold! But during the day it is heaven! You
could not ask for more. I have actually been outside with nature and
admiring her with full swing. In fact I have been cleaning up and
seeing what sort of projects I could get on with. Richard I have to
thank you for the dress pattern links. I have had a good look at
them and they give me a lot of ideas.

I have picked up some of the faces of lady dolls and decided to do a
portrait on them. Painting them like I am an artist. I am so
flabbergasted at the results. Am still firing them there is a lot of
firings. I am so looking forward to a new kiln! This poor old thing
has really had it's days.

Anyways I have pulled out some Diana Effner's babies, for the start.
I didn't realise I had so many. I bought them years ago and forgot
all about them! I have pulled out my machine and have been playing
around with my sewing skills. Am impressed with the results and soon
I will be putting new pics on. In todays market things are so hard,
but I have decided to do overthetop things my way, like a true artist
and see if I get any response??

Christine and Richard you have inspired me now I will show you what
it takes when one learns from each other? Hope to hear from you
guys! I have also been busy doing my web, boy I am learning, Richard
that is something good for you to participate in? It's very
rewarding and all I can say it improves with practice!......Hoping to
hear from you all to see what you all are up to.......Natascha

Hi Linda,

Good to get reply. Garage sales, yes, some use it in Denmark too. But in our little town we have a barn, which the scouts of the town administrate, and they fetch all the things, people don’t want anymore and sell it there at low prices, furniture, toys – everything.

Best regards,

Christine

Hi Christine and everyone else!  Thanks for breaking the drought, Christine.  Seems like we haven't written for ever.

I don't know what I've been doing...but I've been busy.

Oh, yes, I remember now..we had 4 garage sales  My- oh -my  were we ever swamped.  [in case you don't have them in your part of the world, it is when you clean out every nook and cranny plus attic, garage, barn, potting shed.....well you get the idea and put it all for sale on your lawn at ridiculously low prices.  You would not believe the junk people will buy!] Then when we finished with that I packed up 6 boxes of books and old quilts to send to my sister to sell on ebay.   I have 3 boxes to go to my 'baby' group.  whew...I'm tired all over again!

But now I feel energized that I have all my 'toys' out where I can see and reach everything.  Soooo, guess I'll get to work.

Have any of you been showing dolls, or  finishing up projects?  Is everyone doing OK otherwise?  Let us know if you are in need of prayer or encouragement.

Love ,

Linda in Ky?

Hi Linda,

This is Natascha so glad people are wakening up!

Yes I have had a clean up!  But I am doing a garage sale

on a different scale!  I have so much its not funny!

Have taken more pics on the weekend and have looked

at Christines dolls!  I hope shes feeling a little better I love

how she battles on, the work that she is putting in the costuming

God Love her its actually very awesome!  I'm quiten taken by it!

I have done a study on traditional costumes and I want to try what

shes actually trying to achieve!  Sounds like good fun!  I love the workmanship

and the meaning of it!  You can see how shes improving so much and her

work is becoming quite a work of art!

I have pulled out a doll an Antique Reproduction Jumeau, large size so that I will

go thoroughly over her and show you all step by step  and why I am doing it so!

I am doing a lot of surface embellishing I bought a book from the US and am

co-operating it with my work!  I thought if we can all show and tell and help

one another where help needs, or even have a go ourselves, we may learn from

each other like going to classes sometimes you learn from each other as well as the

teacher!  Like I have and am learning what Christine's trying to achieve!  Thank you Christine

you have opened my eyes!  and you too Linda want to see what you are up to stage by stage!

I am now building up my web putting things in just like a shop!  That even things that are not

obtainable will be!   Hope to hear from you......Natascha   just keep watching I'll upload her

so you can see stage by stage she doesn't look so good at the moment!  But  she will!

Hi Natascha,

I send you a picture of a original pair of shorts and kamiks. That is, what I have to make for my girl.

IMG_3787.JPG

avatat2.jpg

And I have to put these leather pieces on the kamiks to around the top.

I have got cutted leather in 3 mm pieces, but 3 mm is too large.

In Greenland they sew these small leather pieces together. I plan to glue them on paper and sew them afterwords. But until now, I am thinking, how to do it.

Hi Natascha, good to hear from you. There has been so quiet in our
group, what is everybody doing?
Here in Denmark is summertime - my health is bad - and my dolls are on
hold.
I still struggle with the Greenland girl, need to make the trousers and
kamiks for her with the lether applications, and the pieces must not be
larger than 1,5 mm - that is a problem for me.
Richard, how is your bride and everybody else - what projects are you
working on?

Hi Christine,
I've never seen that Nissen mold before...looks like an Eskimo, is it?  I have several of his molds, love his work.  Ellarose is one of John's newer dolls and I bought that one several years ago, haven't heard if he's done anything new lately or where he's selling his stuff.  He was selling through Seeley, but they haven't come out with anything new for him either.  Wish do do something wonderful again!  I've been working on my Bleuettes and have started to get into the 12 inch Fashion dolls.  I'm also trying to finish up several dolls for the UFDC convention in Las Vegas.  One of my suppliers has a booth there and has asked me to send her some dolls...can' t pass that up!   So I'm cleaning and painting and cleaning and painting.  Also finished four of Kaye Wiggs 14 inch dolls.  Waiting for shoes to come in.....Other than that, it'sthe same-o same-o here!

Its so pretty.  Strawberries, berries and leaves done in velvet with tiny little strawberry

blossums. the Leaves are done in felt and sewn in the middle pulled to shape.  Its a

little like stumpwork but not quite!

I also have been doing crazy quilt type of embellishing for an an olde worlde like

doll's skirt.  I have been fiddling around with clay to create faces for a scuptured doll

old worlde boudouir or attic style don't know yet have been playing around!

Also have been doing Bluettes, and all the small dolls!  Have been shows but people are

looking more to smaller dolls.  Still doing the bigger but one in a while!  So I have been

busy coming up with all sorts of looks with the smaller dolls.  I have arranged my studio

with a section of display!  It is making me feel good and I can actually see how to go about

things a little better!  In other words I have been fiddling even doing musicals and and filddling

Hi Candy,

Yes, he is an eskimo. The girl mold looks like a Mexican. When I showed her to my son, he told me, that is not an Eskimo, so I started over and used the boys head instead, and I think, he became a nice girl.

I have uploaded pictures of both in my album at the group.

John Nissen is not producing anymore, I believe. Candy, I need to see these Kaye Wiggs dolls, please remember to take a photo to show me. These Bleuettes are too small for me, my eyes are becoming old, so I like to paint larger dolls.

Please keep me informed, if anything new shows up.

Christine

I've never seen that Nissen mold before...looks like an Eskimo, is it?  I have several of his molds, love his work.  Ellarose is one of John's newer dolls and I bought that one several years ago, haven't heard if he's done anything new lately or where he's selling his stuff.  He was selling through Seeley, but they haven't come out with anything new for him either.  Wish do do something wonderful again!  I've been working on my Bleuettes and have started to get into the 12 inch Fashion dolls.  I'm also trying to finish up several dolls for the UFDC convention in Las Vegas.  One of my suppliers has a booth there and has asked me to send her some dolls...can't pass that up!   So I'm cleaning and painting and cleaning and painting.  Also finished four of Kaye Wiggs 14 inch dolls.  Waiting for shoes to come in.....Other than that, it'sthe same-o same-o here!

Is anybody working on the dolls?
I have added some pictures to show you my greenlandic girl. She is not
quite finished, I need to finish her pants and kamiks, have got the
leather cutted in 3 mm pieces in the colours, I need. But 3 mm is too
large for a doll, so I have to make smaller pieces and sew together in
a pattern. This wil be the last, I have to manage, then she is
completed.
Originally there is a mold, cold Naja, but her face does not look
greenlandish, so I used the boys head and made a girls face of it.
Hope everybody is o.k.
Christine

Ha, ha no we are nowhere near them not even the farm!  I have been travelling and looking around

I have to my eyes worked out whats wrong!  In the country towns they have no rain, the gov.

doesn't seem to help.  I don't think city folks understand this!  They are bringing in more and more

outsiders to the city!  People can't afford any of the luxuries in the country!

I am going to move closer to the coast at this stage so I can catch the travellers and tourists!

I am going to become self sufficient and put my dolls on display.

I have been doing markets, only to see what people want and shows.  They want something different

boy no-one seems to know.  I have been putting my thinking caps on.  I did sell a small doll done in the olde worlde

way painting her face and eyes with that old worlde look and tinge and dipping her into a cheap coffee.

The only thing I don't like is the smell of the cheap coffee.  It really does make me sick so I have to go and

buy a perfume spray or make a sprig of flowers on cinnamon stick or something to show her off!

That seems to work so far!  The do like fashion dolls done up over the moon.  Or story book characters.

Anyways I am learning!  Even Kerry I am trying to help her  but don't really understand what shes trying to do

but I just can't wait for the results.  I am busting!  Thank God for you guys too cause with each other I am here to

learn, I really don't know any answers but I am all ears!   Fire away folks this is good therapy!...Nataschasdolls

So good to hear from you

Hello folks, well I did the show up in the Tweed in the Servicemens
Club.
Funny I couldn't find it everything seemed to have shrunken with the
new buildings storeys behind it! What a shame you think people would
learn wouldn't you. With their monies they hate the big smoke and
moved up there in the serene river quaintness and guess what they are
re creating what they have down here! Extroidenary! I think they
lost the plot!

Anyhows Jan McKlean led the show with all the pizzazz and little
girls running around the room singing lollypop, lollypop, I didn't
think much of that she was really advertising her dolls. Years ago
they were lovely but now I think they are over the top! They compete
with the US toy market!

I suppose that if you are a sculptor that is the way to go! But not
in the dollworld! I truly think it doesn't help the dollworld, or
the antique doll world or any of the likes!

She has other people making her special wigs, shoes, clothes, and we
are just people who embark on the hobby as a hobby not a commercial
stance!

Lovely thought though! No the dollworld seemed dead! No-one was
interested in buying anything, not even pretty clothing! But I did
stir up one thing in the pot! I snatched an unfinished Bluette, very
cute! She went instantly, and more people came in asking if I had a
Bluette! At least that is a start! Although the millettes are of
the same sizes. A thinner body or can be the same! Only the neck
part can differ!

Other than that there is really nothing to report! I looked around
to me it looked like a changing world! Of concrete jungles or the
beginnings of! Back to the drawing board! We all have to encourage
each other and see what we can come up with. I must say thank you
Candy seeing your Bluette gave me the idea! Seems like its the same
world wide. Any suggestions! Anyone to give us some hope! What are
you all doing! I am all ears!.....Natascha

Hi everyone!

My oh my, but it's been quiet here over the last couple of weeks. My
bridal doll progresses - the gown is now finished, even if it took two
attempts to get the bodice done!

The only slight problem I now have, the bodice has a deep 'belt' that
goes down below the waist. This is highly shaped and sculpted to fit
the body, with quite a bit of easing to get the seams together
sensibly. It has a deep downwards 'V' across her tummy. The upper part
of the bodice is very full, with a brocade under bodice and organza
shirring around the bodice and sleeves - the under bodice and shirring
are so full the belt doesn't lie close against the body and sticks out
a little one the 'V'. I've plenty of material left, so if I feel in
the mood one day I might try a third attempt at the bodice!

I've made her headdress, just waiting for some small ivory guipure
lace to edge the veil and all my work will be done! I'm also trying to
source a silk flower posy for her. I've seen one I like, just waiting
to hear if they can scale it down so it's in keeping for the doll's size.

She does look good, especially now I've added her eyelashes and wig,
but you'll have to wait now for any more pics until she's finished.
Had to make one change, she's no longer wearing a camisole under the
gown. The yoke is  organza, and the camisole straps showed through and
spoiled the look.

We're both back to doll making the week after next, I'm making a young
girl doll for a change; we bought a small seagrass chair a while back
and she's going to be seated on that. Audrey is tackling a very large
Nubian doll to be posed on a telephone seat.

Two weeks Sunday and we're off to have a few days away in Devon,
staying on a farm just a few miles outside Exeter. I'm wanting fit in
a visit to the Eden Project if any of you have heard of it. It's in an
old china clay pit, there are some enormous 'biospheres' where they've
created mini climates.

http://www.edenproject.com/

Another likely visit is Pecorama

http://www.peco-uk.com/Pecorama/Pecorama.htm

That's probably one that might interest husbands! Last went there
about 20-25 years ago on a very warm and sunny summer day, had a ride
on the Beer Heights light railway all round the place, and got
absolutely plastered with little black smuts all down my shirt front!

Also wanting to make contact with a cousin of mine who lives down that
way, and who I haven't seen for many years.
