OZNETWORX – BRING & BRAAI (BBQ)
BRONTE BEACH - SYDNEY

Fun for everyone …

Have a look at the info below and visit the website. (Any questions,
PLEASE ASK…!)

A pretty and green beach, equipped with barbecuing facilities and
popular with families, spread out across the parkland that provides
much needed shade on a sunny day. The surrounding district is rich
with refreshment facilities for those with no respect for a Great
Aussie Barbecue. Great place for an outdoor party or sports event.
Easy to reach by public transport or car (expect parking space to be
extremely limited on a sunny weekend). More popular with locals than
visitors.

Bronte, NSW 2024

Date & Time:
Sunday the 6 Th. November 2005

Bush Walk - from about 09H30 Onwards
The "Bush" Coast Walk
Its combination of beaches, parks and spectacular views make the Walk
unique. Begun as a state project during the 1930s, it now extends
from Ben Buckler Point to Waverley Cemetery (and on to Coogee; for
information call Randwick Council). It includes Bondi, Tamarama and
Bronte Beaches and a medium gradient cliff-top path from Bondi to
Tamarama , with occasional seating and several staircases. The
beachside parks offer picnic shelters, coin-operated barbecues, play
areas, kiosks, toilets and change-rooms.
BBQ – from 12 H 30 Onwards till late …

Bondi Beach to Bronte

Bondi Beach via coast to Bronte, returning same route. Approximately
2.5 kms (one way). Medium grade, some steep steps. Picnic areas with
toilets at Bondi. Picnic areas with barbecue, kiosk and toilets at
Tamarama and Bronte. Bus 378 - Bronte Beach to Eastern Suburbs
Railway, Bondi Junction.

The walk begins at the Bondi Pavilion. Walk down to the beachside
promenade, and continue towards south Bondi.

Points of Interest:

1. Bondi Pavilion: As "surf bathing" gained popularity Waverley
Council recognised the need for improved beach facilities. The
foundation stone for Bondi Pavilion was laid in 1928. The Pavilion,
part of an overall scheme for beach improvements, contained dressing
areas for 12,000 people, Turkish baths, shops, gymnasium and
ballroom. A huge crowd of 200,000 attended the official opening of
the Bondi Beach Improvement Scheme. Ceremonies included brass bands,
bugle bands and fife and drum bands, aeroplane stunts and a parachute
jump. King Neptune landed from a surf boat in front of the Pavilion.
There was also a procession led by Life Savers.

2.Surf life saving was started in Australia. The Bondi Surf Bathers'
Life Saving Club was formed in 1906. Both Bondi S.B.L.S.C. and Bronte
S.L.S.C. claim to be the world's oldest surf life saving clubs. North
Bondi S.L.S.C. was formed the following year.
On 6th February, 1938, to become known as "Black Sunday", life savers
carried out their most famous rescue operation. Several freak waves
swept up onto Bondi Beach dragging beachgoers out into boiling seas.
Life savers rescued more than 300 people that day. Five people
drowned.

3. The famous Bondi Icebergs Club is above the Bondi Baths at the
southern end of the beach. Full club membership can only be attained
by swimming 3 Sundays out of 4 from May to September (winter) for 5
years. The club has approximately 600 members. Visitors are welcome.

4. Views from Mackenzies Point south to Maroubra. The sandstone
cliffs form part of the Hawkesbury sandstone belt and date back to
the Triassic Age 190-225 million years B.C. Surrounding land, known
as Mackenzies Waverley Dairy, was used for grazing in the 1880s.

5. Aboriginal rock carvings in Marks Park were regrooved in 1962.
Governor Philip, Sydney's founding Governor noted the Cadigal
aboriginal people roamed the land from South Head at the harbour
entrance, to Sydney Cove, including today's Waverley Municipality.

6. Swimming at Mackenzies Bay is dangerous, the beach is not
patrolled and there are hidden rocks.

7. Tamarama beach frontage was bought by David Fletcher (later
Waverley's first Mayor) and the headland became known as Fletcher's
Glen. Tamarama's natural beauty was threatened in 1887 when "The
Aquarium" was built, an amusement park offering a variety of displays
and entertainment. In 1906 "Wonderland City" straddled the headland.
This extravaganza included an airship and miniature railway. Today
Tamarama still retains much of its original charm, a small beach used
mainly by locals.

8. The walk finishes at North Bronte cliffs.

Vegetation along the cliffs includes:
Coprosma - low growing shiny leaf plant;
Lagunaria - Norfolk Island hibiscus;
Metrosideros - red bottle brush;
Melaleuca - tea tree, white bottle brush.

The Wallaby Bar
Rugby fanatic or no rugby fanatic, you'll love the Wallaby Bar at
Cockle Bay Wharf. A far cry from any traditional footy bar, it
features a contemporary design and dιcor, a large terrace-style
balcony and eight plasma screens with multi-media displays that give
new meaning to the term `modern art'. Located at the balcony level of
Cockle Bay Wharf, you can enjoy great views across Darling Harbour
and a relaxed atmosphere just minutes away from the CBD. The Wallaby
Bar has an impressive wine, cocktail and bar food menu, making it
ideal for a laid back lunch, drinks after work or a night out on the
town.

The Wallaby Bar is also a great venue to go to before, during or
after a game. There's a feature wall embossed with every Wallaby
player's name and every match result since Australia's first test in
1899. On occasion, you'll find some of the silverware the Wallabies
have recently accumulated including the Bledisloe Cup, the Tom
Richards Cup, the Mandela Plate and the Tri-Nations Trophy.

The Wallaby Bar is endorsed and licensed by the ARU and is home to
rugby events, launches, media conferences and player appearances.
It's also available to the public for functions, providing a unique
backdrop for business or for pleasure.

Hi Everyone!

WOW, WHAT A SPECTACULAR GAME !!!

We gave it to them in the end!! We were getting a bit worried when
Percy was missing all those kicks, but January sealed the match for
us! Man he moves like lightning !!

We had a fantastic turnout at the Wallaby Bar, even some South
Africans that are here on a conference. If we did not know any better
I would have said it was the "Springbok Bar"!!

Thanks to everyone who was there, it was great to meet you and watch
the game with all of you. Keep a look out for the next Social event.

Please check back in a day or so, I will add a few pictures to the
site.

"!!HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEK!!"

Thanks to Lauren for bringing so many friends, as one of our mates
used to say "YOU GO GIRL"!

Great to meet all of you and I am sure we will see you again soon.

Thanks to you all for being there,

Kind Regards

Mark & Bronwen

Hi Everyone,

Please bring a friend or two, let us make this the best event yet.

OZNETWORX – Sunday 14 th August 2005-08-10

Just something I found that might be helpful / give you a few ideas
for Sunday :
Matching Australian Wine with Food
Matching food and wine is little like introducing friends – you hope
they'll hit it off but you really get nervous in case they don't.
What a pleasure it is when they take to each other. It's well worth
the effort – a successful pairing of food and Australian wine,
whether simple nibbles, a modest dinner of full blown dinner party,
will more than double the pleasure they provide individually.
As with people, the basic trick is to match like with like, and
occasionally take a gamble that opposites will attract.
Rules are made to be broken
There is a lot of sense to the "rule" that red wines go with red
meats and cheeses and that white wines go with fish and white meats
such as chicken. But sometimes it can be great fun and rewarding to
break the rules and get away with it. It helps to create flair and
style. You can really make people sit up if you offer, say, an oaked
Chardonnay with a light, soft cheese such as brie or even a mild
cheddar.
There's a reason for the success of this unorthodox pairing. Under
the surface, cheese and wine have things in common – the refreshing
acid from the fruit in the Chardonnay match the lactic acid in the
cheese, and both have an essential creaminess. However the science
doesn't matter, apart from the reassurance that there is a simple
reason, rather than just magic – the important thing is how it tastes
to you and your friends.
Similarly, you can pair red with fish. At a barbecue for example, a
lighter style red such as Grenache Shiraz or Merlot would team
wonderfully with a char-grilled snapper or a tuna steak lightly
marinated in lime juice.
Weight for it
A good rule of thumb is to think of food and wine combinations in
terms of "weight". Think of a dish as light, medium or full bodied,
then team it with its wine counterpart. A lemon tart with a Riesling
or Semillon Chardonnay will zap the palate with zingy, citrus
flavours. Whereas a full bodied Australian Shiraz would team
beautifully with roasted lamb or beef. Mmmm – just say when.
Making the ideal partnership also depends not just on the food
itself, but how it's prepared. It's helpful to match like with like –
light lemony sauces on fish or chicken calls for the gentle citrus
flavours of Riesling, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. Spicy,
peppery Grenache Shiraz would be perfect to accompany a subtly
curried dish or peppery stew.

with food, some fantastic Australian recipes are available at:

Hi Everyone,

This is to briefly recap the information for BBQ / BRAAI on the
Sunday. I see the group is very quiet at the moment and no-one is
indicating if they will attend or not ….
SIS julle, moet ons weer daar gaan ??

Guy & Girls, this is a social FUN event, please bring games, a ball,
a bat and we can all have a bit of fun !!! Kids welcome !!!

JUST REMEMBER, make the effort. I was reminded today about a movie I
once saw, it was called "Pay it forward", for all those who did not
see it, get it, it is great. I believe it is the kind of foundation
we are building our group on.

1) IF WEATHER IS OK

keep to the right fork.) See map at
	 http://www.cp.nsw.gov.au/maps/index_ie.htm

Let's hope the weather is kind to us ... if things turn real nasty,
we can always scuttle down to The Clovelly Hotel (not far from
Centennial) - they have a gorgeous huge wooden deck under cover where
we can escape from any ominous weather ...!!

4) Bring 'n Braai is the easiest and should you bring something
traditional to share with everyone (ME, ME, ME, Share with me, I
love my food, what can I say. Who is making koeksusters ????) –
  It would be great!!

Jennifer Lloyd has done the legwork to provide us with the
following: -

The suggestion is to enter the park through the
Paddington Gates, off Oxford Street. A short way down, on the right
hand side of the road, is a lovely braai area called Paperbark Grove.
As you enter the park via the Paddington Gates, the road splits just
past the Griffith statues - keep to the right fork; i.e. Parkes
Drive; Hamilton Drive is to the left.

On Sunday 3 July we want to start at noon as it gets chilly & dark
earlier nowadays & by 5pm many people will be gone or going soon.

A Bring 'n Braai is the easiest ... if anyone wishes to bring
something traditional to share with everyone - what a pleasure!!
(Biltong; koeksusters; melktert en mampoer sal lekker wees!)

Dress warm because as you know - Sunday will likely be good at midday
but getting chilly quickly from 3pm.

To zoom in on desired sections of the map, right click on your mouse

You need to get version 6 of the Flash Player.

Once you click on & open the map you will see Paddington Road at the
top (north); Paddington and CBD are to the left (west) and Woollarwa
is to the right (east).

Right click just under the word "Paddington" at the top and then use
Zoom-In to enlarge. At the top you will see the Sydney Cricket Ground
& further to the right the Paddington Gates, leading to Park &
Hamilton Drives. On the right further down from the right fork to
Park Drive, you will see the braai (barbeque) area Paperbark Grove.
The braais on brick foundations are easy to see, and that is it!

Hi All,

Sorry it has been so quiet on my front of late. Will tell you all
about it when we see each other.

Just to keep everyone informed, a few of us in the group have decided
to try and make this Group a little more organised and things better
run in the future … (So while we are doing that, please be a bit
patient with us.)

So we are meeting shortly to plan where and how we can possibly go
from here. Bearing in mind this group has started growing and we want
to get something in place that can start benefiting and helping all
current and future group members.

So, not to break things and to keep up the current momentum of it
all, I suggest we once again have a "Lekker Braai" together on :
Date : Sunday 03 July 2005
Time : 12H00 Onwards
Place : Centennial Park (Where we had the last meeting.)
		 http://www.cp.nsw.gov.au
Event : OZNETWORX Bring & Braai
Once again, invite some friends, bring along another person who you
would like to introduce to the Group…

We had such a great turnout last time, let us aim to better it this
time and get a good crowd of us together. We can then make a few
firm arrangements for the rugby. I look forward to meeting up with
you all and growing our friendship from where we started …

So, should anyone need a lift or help in finding the place, feel free
to call.

Please send this on to anyone who may be interested.

PLEASE NOTE MY NEW MOBLIE NO. – 0409 462 166

All the best
