Hello
I'm new at this and I would like to know if it's possible to upload an
flv video to one of this free online file storage and then use
Flowplayer to embedded in my webpage.
All this to avoid the free videos sites since they offer poor
resolution quality.
I have done this succesfully using GooglePages but their 100MB is too
litle. I suppose I need to store my files somewhere where I can get
the true URL of the file and possibly streamable access.
Any thoghts?
Thanks

It's important to note that we found complaints about all online
backup services, but MediaMax (which offers a complex matrix of free
and paid plans) has offended enough users to create a community of
enemies. MediaMax acquired Streamload (renaming it MediaMax) and
continued to receive some modestly favorable reviews in 2006.
According to the roughly 400 users who have signed an online
petition, the MediaMax online backup service doesn't work as
advertised. Many of the signers claim the company is engaging in
fraud. A forum with about 60 posts at CNet.com tackles the same
subject (and we found several similar forums online). The Ripoff
Report has a new fraud claim against MediaMax. A blog site devoted to
MediaMax conducts a poll to measure satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
In the poll, 85 of 121 respondents report extreme problems with the
service in October 2007. Only six users encountered no problems.
While it's predictable that disgruntled users are more likely to
write a review than satisfied customers, the preponderance of
negative press for MediaMax's online backup service is impossible to
ignore.

Users don't just complain that MediaMax doesn't work. Many claim a
variety of acts of financial fraud. Editors at TopTenReviews.com rate
MediaMax last in their coverage of online backup services, "because
of current problems they are having." They go on to state, "We were
unable to create a new account and have received reports that many
other users are having issues with their accounts." In his review for
Tom's Hardware, Sean Kerner adds, "Though MediaMax offered the most
for free, the quality of service was unsatisfactory." Given the lack
of recent review support and the abundance of angry customers, we
have not included MediaMax in ConsumerSearch Fast Answers.

Hello,

Thanks for writing. We're sorry you've experienced difficulties download this content. We've instituted a recent recovery operation which has recovered the vast majority of files that became missing due to our data center migration in June. Outside of these, I'm afraid it may be better to assume that any remaining content which is not available to you is corrupted and therefore unrecoverable. They may become recoverable at some poiint, but for now it may be more prudent to assume the data is lost.

In order to restore access to the missing data, please reupload the data or have the original owner of the content upload the data. Re-emailing the same corrupt links will not work. While we recognise that this may be a frustrating situation, please note that the service is provided on an "as-is" basis. With that said, recent improvements and enhancements to our service has made unavailability issues such as these do not recur.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further queries.

Sincere regards,

Hi all :D

Long time I don't visit cause it's real quiet and also I have switched from
mediamax.com to in.solit.us now!

I was looking what's going on now with mm.com and just found this
message when making a !whois...

"We're sorry, but at this time, register.com is not in a position to provide
you with the WHOIS information you have requested. The IP address
from which you have visited register.com has been temporarily blocked
due to its association with excessive queries on our system. Register.
com has blocked this IP address in order to prevent any adverse impact
to our systems which could prevent other WHOIS requests from being
properly processed. We apologize about the inconvenience, and
encourage you to renew your request in about 24 hours."

I just did 2 queries and got this msg... I wonder if mm.com has blocked
my ip there??

Are you guys having FTP now??

Try this site if you want ..

Hi Alchemysa :D

Thanks for passing the info...

For my part, I see more trouble to come and the situation being more
suspicious. I ran away (almost retrieve all my files at mm less
10%-15%).

I been busy to look for 2 alternatives because relying on just 1 is
such a bad idea with the experience I had with mm.

The 4 top choices I found are (in order of preference):
#1 www.files-upload.com
#2 www.freedrive.com
#3 www.mediafire.com
#4 www.gmail.com (with http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm)

#1
is very very similar to mm but the upload limit is 1GB and the ftp is
down for now... when ftp is up, it will be just great.

#2
is similir to #1 but 100MB upload limit.

#3
is very interestig... no limit... but no ftp, not hot link, no zip with
password, no exe but its very nice... its how mm shoud have been.

#4
is interesting too but risky for hosting... google is not clear if they
tolerate gmail drive or not (they saying they don't but in fact they
do).

Find a second host service and back it up... don't rely on mm if you
want my final opinion.

:D

I like the look of this one. Its as simple as it gets, which appeals
to me greatly after the mediamax fiasco. Just 1 gig of storage but
thats enough for me.

Unfortunately it doesnt provide for easy file sharing but that may be
available soon.

Well its good to hear that theres a possibility that files might be

I just had a look at mediafire.
http://www.mediafire.com/
At first glance I dont think it will suit me. The file sharing
system is rather confusing. It looks like you need a get a different
url for every file you want to share. I just want to be able to give
people one address that they can go to to download any files.

Also it looks like I am required to do all the uploading. I'm
looking for a hosting/sharing system that is almost self sufficient.
I want a system where anyone can upload as long as they have the
account name. That was a good feature of mediamax. Anyone could go
to the mediamax homepage and upload a file to my account. All i had
to do was log in occassionally and move files to the hosted section.

Yes files did become available again under Streamload but not under
MediaMax so far they say they are still there, but?? are they, only
they know, I am still trying to get some clarification on this matter,
if they are not, they need to tell the truth and tell users they are

oh!! yes several hundred times now, it's been an ongoing problem since
they changed to MediaMax. They say they still have them and they will
be available in time, but after a year I won't hold my breath waiting,
I'm still writing to them on a regular basis giving them feedback on
there ongoing problems, uploading being a Major one and unavailable
files as another. At least they reply to me now, and all I can hope is
they act on what I tell them

Has anyone ever had an 'error' or 'hiccup' file become available again? I
havent.

I can 'see' them in 'my files' but I cant download or view them.

I'm wondering if theres any point waiting, or are they lost for good.

Actually, afaik they have allways been a small company in terms of
manpower with about a dozen or so employees. Face it, if MM would
actually technology wise work you wouldn't need a big staff.

This is also one of the problems imho ... because they have so few
employees they now find themselves completly swamped in their self
created forest of problems and they should have called in extra outside
hands ages ago, because the message "is being dilligently worked on"
has become quite stale considering I've been hearing it for over a year.

I've been a member since 2004 or so, and it's really gotten bad in the
last year. I haven't been able to upload anything since June 22, and
am giving them until Friday to fix my issue.

I've already signed up for another service, and if this isn't resolved
by Friday, I'm referring my complaint to the California Department of
Consumer Affairs as well as my state's Department of Agriculture,
Trade, and Consumer Protection.

John Hood is the new customer relations person at Mediamax.
Funny... they used to be 'the worlds largest on-line media centre'.
Now they're just a small '12 man start-up'. Well that fills me with
confidence.

Hello,

As we've stated on the blog we're working on restoring access to
files. We do not have an ETA for completion but will post on both of
our blogs and here when it's done.

We're posting all refund requests in the order received. Due to an
unusually high volume of email there will be a delay in responding
but we will get to every email. Thanks for your patience.

We don't allow comments on the blog because we don't the manpower to
manage it and respond. We're a small start up of less than a dozen
people. We feel that it's more important that all of us work at
restoring service instead of pulling one of us off that work to
manage the blog. Having said that, I'll try to check on here when I
can to respond to your posts.

Thanks,

John Hood

I am a member at several forums based around Media Max and the view in
all of them, is sadness, anger, and frustration. As we all know they
never reply with a truthful answer if answered at all, I did write to
Steve Iverson
President & CEO, MediaMax
and did receive 1 reply to 3 mails I am still waiting for the other 2.
I think the only way we can get things done is by "Bad Publicity" from
the media, and I am going to start contacting several media outlets,
anyone wishing to help me in this venture please contact me via email.
The service it used to supply as "Streamload" was excellent why can't
it be that way again?? they had it right once why not again? I place
on all my mails to them "Patience has a Time Span". I don't want to
sink the company, just the opposite, I want it functioning properly,
as I have much time and energy invested there.

I've been an avid member of streamload since late 2001, but like you
this last year ... basically since the switch from V4 to MediaMax has
been sheer hell with the latest stunt being not being able to upload
for over a month now. Must say that's not really a good thing when you
claim to be the nr 1 online storage company.

Unless you really have a personal contact at MM that actually replies
to you I wouldn't bother writing them at all as basically all mail you
send them will be thrown back at your through their automated response
engine. In the rare occassion you do actually get a live person then
usually you won't hear from her/him again after the 2nd reply tops.

The best chance to stir a reaction is to write to their Online Partners
and maybe even better some online news service to expose the misery we
have had to endure for over a year ago. I do mean the news services
that are on the entry page of MediaMax itself. In fact I wrote one of
them a while ago if they could retract or do a followup of the glowing
articles they now link to. Sadly I haven't gotten a response, but
perhaps you'll fair better. Wishing you luck in getting us a better ...
no, make that a WORKING ... MediaMax. Hell, I wouldn't mind them
reverting back to the old V4 system ... now that they removed their
totally useless Music Locker and other tabs there is basically nothing
left what was introduced as MediaMax anyway.

I have been a paying member of Media max since almost it's start date
as Streamload. The service over the past year has declined badly and
over the past 2 months has become almost unusable.I am at present
writing many emails to directors and others at Media Max. and am about
to start writing to their Online Partners as they are involved in it
as well. The only way to get them to improve their service,is by
pressure,ie money or lack of, or bad publicity, lots of it,especially
in their home town of San Diego, any suggestions, or information on
Media Max please mail to me. I will continue my crusade to get
everyone a better service
