Hi Folk
Due to not being at work and having to deal with the home dial-up
dinosaur of a computer that hates me as much as I hate it - to the
point where for the last few days every time I touched it ,it said
"you have performed an illegal operation" and promptly closed me down
-I have been out of action.
So now that I have bashed it into submission, I have be able to catch
up on the posts.
Sorry to harp on about this (now I am apologizing), but when do you
think breed surveys will be implement by their respective NBC's etc?
Obviously there was not a breed survey to decide if we wanted or
needed an eye scheme. What will these surveys ask? Will they ask if we
will accept the documentation as it stands? Who will be responsible
for surveying the breeds that do not have NBC's?
Were breed surveys done for mircochipping and tail docking? Was tail
docking brought in by the ANKC/AVA or others before it was legislated?
Does anybody remember (come on I know that there are members on this
site who have been in the dog world far longer than I- and I won't
accept you all have Alzheimer's!) when any "scheme" was introduced the
way this Eye Scheme has been? I don't remember any but I have only
been around for 20 odd years and even during that time things could
have slipped under the radar as far as I am concerned.
Are we going to allow the AVA and the ANKC dictate to us on what is
"right" for our breed - especially when there is evidence (in collies
at least) that breeders have reduced the incidence of the most
problematic parts of CEA with out the help of a scheme - this is
documented.
Are we going to accept that the do not have to be accountable for
their diagnoses?
Are we going to hand all prior testing results over before obtaining a
second opinion?
Are we going to let them say it is a voluntary scheme - WHEN IT IS
NOT!!! In Leah's unofficial minutes, she said that Karin Hedburg said
that the eye form should have tick boxes saying if the results could
be released or not for publication. I think those boxes should be if
you want your dog's results to be available to the ACES or not. That
would make it a more voluntary scheme - and how easy would that be??
Come on people - our forefathers didn't sit back and say "its too
hard" when they were brought to Aust in chains - THEY BUILT A NATION -
and a pretty damn good one at that.
Who is interested in doing a re-write of the ACES documentation? We
can all do it page by page on this site?
I AM wanting answers to ALL of the above – so please some of you
knowledgeable people – HELP!
Maureen - I think you will understand the frustration I feel in not
being able to attract the attention of all the breeders - especially
as you say the breeders of breeds who do not have known eye problems.
I sent documentation it Dogs On Line and they did print an editorial
in Dog News. After contacting Wendye she did do the big article in
National Dog. I have put the petition up and have sent out nearly
2,000 emails to breeders, over the last 3 months. I have talked to
everyone I know. I have asked other breeders who see the pitfalls of
this Scheme to just ask people to take the time to read the
documentation for themselves and think about it. I have got this site
up and running – mind you I have had plenty of people help me with all
these things – I could not have done it all alone, but I still find
people – especially at the shows I attend (and I have put documents on
their windscreens) who still have NEVER HEARD OF ACES....... So do you
or anyone else have any other ideas please run with them and TALK,
TALK, TALK. I truly believe EVERY BREEDER should know about this
scheme and EVERY OTHER SCHEME – before they come into being - and
they are coming!!
Wendy: Thank you for your email. I know where you are coming from and
I think once we have ACES done and dusted we can get to talking about
some of the other interesting stuff that is happening in the dog world.
