Hello there David (new aussie member LOL )

I use my husband's scroll saw and it's got variable speeds on it which he
reckons you should have that way you not only can cut wood with it but metal
too.

He was lucky to get his from the woodshow in Perth for about $280.00 on
special but that was about six years ago. It pays to shop around too.

I haven't been into the OZ Scrollsaw section for quite awhile now but there
were pictures of my wooden jigsaws that I make and sell.

Hope this helps you a bit.

   Regards,

   Lesley

Hi Daveg Welcome. Look around for a scroll saw. Spending a bit more
will get you a scrollsaw that gives a better outcome - not as much
vibration etc. I have a 16"variable speed Delta but alas they are no
longer available.Good luck.
I to make puzzles.
Do you know about the Australian scroll saw network?
Barbara from near Lismore on the Nth Coast of NSW.

Hello again David,

Well I guess you'd know about the variable speed scroll saws then. My
husband's is a Delta 16" one with quickset 11 blade changing feature.

I have used it on metal and plastic as well as the wooden projects. Good luck
in getting the one you want.

   Regards,

   Lesley

Welcome to the group. Using a scroll saw is one of the best things
I've learnt to use. My husband who has emphysema and can't work in his
workshop now has taught me how to use his scroll saw as I'm a member of
our locat craft centre and everything I make from pyrography to other
woodwork items I sell in the craft shop.

If I can help in anyway I will.

Hope you enjoy yourself in here.

Lesley

Well I guess you don't have to really be an aussie to join in. Hope I can
see some different types of patterns that are specific to Australia and would'nt
normally be seen here in the states. Id appreciate any help any of you could
give me on this.

G'day there,

Well it's been a very long time since I've been in here. I've been nursing my
sick husband for about 3 longs years and then he died in hospital last August so
haven't had the time to get here to join in or talk to anyone.

I used to work with my husband's scroll saw but when I put the house up for sale
everything was sold at a garage sale that I had. I'm now in a pensioner unit
and have nowhere to do any wood work unfortunately but I'm still doing my
pyrography.

What sort of Australian patterns were you looking for? Maybe I can help and
maybe not, who knows lol.

Catch you later,

Lesley.

Sorry to hear about your husbands passing.  Thanks for answering my note.  I
have only been doing scroll for about 6mo.  I used to make silver and bone
jewelry, but silver skyrocketed to about $18.00 an ounce so being the poor guy I
am I decided a new hobby was in order.  My first piece was a portrait of John
(the Duke) Wayne, He turned out real nice and I started from there.  I'm
interested in animal portraits from around the world.  Any kind.  Maybe a
koala or even a snake from Austrailia would be nice.  I"m not real good on the
computer, and can't do alot of stuff with it, but I will certainly try.  I
added your e-mail to my bookmarks, so maybe we could send each other patterns of
stuff.  Oh by the way I"m 58, married, retired and disabled from Agent Orange
when I took my senior trip to beautiful S.E. Asia in the Marines.  Well now we
have introduced ourselves nice to meetcha.  Maybe we could be scroll pals.

Waiting for your reply

G'day Rick,

Thanks for answering my message too.  As I said before I haven't done a darn
thing for ages.  I live about 2 hours south of Perth which is the capital city
of Western Australia.  I've just been up there for a visit with my late
husband's daughter-in-law and her two kids to spend Easter with them and whilst
there I visit Bunnings which is the largest hardware and garden centre in
Australia.  They have Bunnings all around Oz.  Anyway to cut a long story
short I bought myself a new jigsaw as I have some lizard and frog patterns that
I want to cut out of wood and then paint them and then I will sell them.

I shall collect as many pictures of Australian animals etc as I can and send
them to you and I hope then you can print them off or get someone in the know to
show you how to do it.

I shall contact you again as soon as I've got them all together.

Bye for now,

Lesley.

I'm a 64 old tart and I drive a school bus twice a day.  It gets me out of bed
in the mornings.  We've been on holidays at the moment as the schools are shut
unit next Tuesday.

Hello again Richard,

Here are two patterns I have of the lizard and the frog that I have done and put
hangers on the back of them so people can hang them if they want to.

          Frog
I made a jigsaw out of this patter of the Koala.

   Lizard

I hope you can get the idea from the above patterns.  Just below is a web site
of Australian pictures.  Just double click on the site and it will take you to
that site and hopefully you'll get what you want there.

I know I'm being lazy but thought this site would be quicker than me trying to
scan everything and then save it to my computer.  Hope you can get it to work
for you.

Anyway let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Lesley

Hi: Leslie

Wanna hear something funny?  You said you were an old tart,  well people I
meet usually say that I'm an old FART !  Wow we sound the same.....  Thanks
for the lead on the animals, but I was looking for patterns, not photos of
them.  The photos would work if only I could draw worth a damn.  So ya got a
new jig saw huh?  The frogs your going to make must be pretty large to be able
to use a jig saw for them. My wife has a frog collection.  not wooden ones.
Real frogs that we keep in the bedroom.  She has about 15 different frogs. 2
geckos, and a tarantula spider.  Oh yeah, 2dogs and 2cats also don,t think I'm
weired, she also has 2 Hissing Madagascar cockroahes. It"s like living in a zoo
that you could step on.  Well thanks again.  Have fun with your saw.

Rick

Ha, ha, ha, the old fart.  Yes I've heard that one before lol.  Well I did
have a scroll saw but I had nowhere to put it when I shifted into this pensioner
unit so I sold it.  A pity really as I could cut out frogs and lizards that
were only about 3 inches long.

The bigger ones are about 5 - 10 inches long.   Right as for patterns I'll see
what else I can do for you in that department.

Your place sounds like a real menagerie, be careful where you step lol.

Hello again,

When you said you were not good at drawing well I just use to photo copy animals
etc and print them off and Lance use to just use some special glue to glue the
picture to the wood and then cut the picture out on the scroll saw.

But don't worry I'm still looking and someone else gave me this info for
patterns so that might help as well.

Good luck,

Ha, ha, ha, the old fart.  Yes I've heard that one before lol.  Well I
did have a scroll saw but I had nowhere to put it when I shifted into this
pensioner unit so I sold it.  A pity really as I could cut out frogs and
lizards that were only about 3 inches long.

The bigger ones are about 5 - 10 inches long.   Right as for patterns I'll see
what else I can do for you in that department.

Your place sounds like a real menagerie, be careful where you step lol.

Real frogs that we keep in the bedroom.  She has about 15 different frogs. 2

I want to cut out of wood and then paint them and then I will sell them.

Hi!

For my birthday a couple of years ago, I was given a GMC scrollsaw. Try as I
might, I can not adjust the blades to prevent them from bending on 4-6mm
plywood, MDF and other thin materials that should be fairly easy to cut.

Anyone here got any suggestions (other than getting rid of it)?

Thanks!

Hello Craig,
I use to use my late husband's variable speed scrollsaw for my wood work
and there was never any problem with the different blades.  Have you got the
right blades for that scrollsaw?
Unfortunately unless I was there in person I can't really see what's wrong or
why you can't adjust the machine for the blades that's why I thought you might
have the wrong ones.
I hope someone else in this group can help you.

Regards,

Lesley.

I am in Goonellabah. I have Ms and have been unable to work for 4 1/2 years=

how I would go first and what is best to get.

Hope you can help me.
