The Hobart Peace Coalition is a broad grouping of trade unions, religious organisations, political parties and individuals.
The Peace Coalition was formed on 8 September 2002 in response to a growing concern amongst Tasmanians over the threat by the President of the United States, supported by the Australian Government, of a pre-emptive strike and war on Iraq and its people.
Peace Coalition policy: The Coalition will:
* enable Tasmanians to mobilise for peace; * support the eradication of all weapons of mass destruction, wherever they may be. Such weapons are destructive in any hands; * organise or sponsor joint activities to mobilise and express public opinion against the threatened war, without attempting to impose any particular policy or point of view onto one another.
