Welcome one and all to 2008!

I hope you and your families had a safe and enjoyable silly season. We did the usual drive around from Christmas eve to until nearly New Years eve visiting family (both sides), extended family and friends from Sandgate to the Gold Coast.

Shortly before Christmas I started my new role as Manager Knowledge Systems for PB Aus/Pac (www.pb.com.au). It has been a hectic aclimatisation but I am now settling in and getting down to business.

December/Jan is a really good time of year to start a job. I have happened to have started my last three jobs (over the past 6 years) at this time of year. Some issues with some people not being available but a good slow time to take things in.

Anyway enough about me. How are you all placed for the new year? Any resolutions you want to share? Perhaps we should ask for some KM resolutions? How about inviting someone else with an interest to the QKM Family?

Our next KM over coffee  is scheduled for Thursday 24 Jan from 8:00-10:00. As no-one has complained about the venue, we'll meet again at the Shingle Inn at Brisbane Square (opposite the Conrad Treasury Casino). Please RSVP to the list.

A few of us got together before Christmas and put together a bit of a plan for 2008.  I'll bring it along to get some feedback and then circulate it afterwards.

All the best for 2008.

Hope to see you all shortly.

Cory Banks

I can make either week so it doesn’t worry me.

Good thought, but will moving it confuse others who might not be checking their email?

Cheers

I have just noticed that the next KM for Coffee is scheduled for tomorrow as November started on a Thursday.

I am inclined to postpone to next week and make it a bit of a Christmas/end of year celebration breaky.

Please let me know if anyone has any major issues with this move?

Thanks

Cory

No issues at all with moving the meeting.  Next week is full on for me, with something on every night of the week, so I don't think I can have early start as well.
Sorry.

If you are looking for some collateral to support your KM lobbying there are not too many better respected sources than McKinsey.

I came across the following article that has been published this month.

Harnessing the power of informal employee networks
Formalising a company's ad hoc peer groups can spur collaboration and unlock value.

There are a few other articles relating to KM itself and associated disciplines.

Anyone have any other trusted sources they would recommend? What email newsletters do you subscribe to?

Thanks

At the coffee discussion this morning I mentioned a post to ACTKM by
Patrick Lambe where he provided a sample knowledge sharing policy.
The document is available on the Green Chameleon website:

http://www.greenchameleon.com/gc/blog_detail/what_would_a_knowledge_sha
ring_policy_look_like

Patrick indicates that he is happy for others to use the document with
the approriate acknowledgements.

I found it interesting to see these aspects of KM all practically
documented in one place. Many texts/references talk about the
importance of having a documented KM policy but I agree with Patrick
that there are few examples available.

Regards
Christine

Thanks to those who got along today.

It seems to rain whenever we get together for this activity. (Maybe we should have them more often).

It thought I would share some of the topics of discussion as there was some great ideas and concepts discussed.

Big thanks to David and Kathleen who blew in from the outskirts of town.

TOPICS
