Hi all,

I'm currently studying for my Grad. Dip. Information Studies at
Curtin Uni, and next year (June/July) I have to complete a 2-3 week
practicum as a component of my last unit.

Whilst I'm technically not supposed to contact people directly about
a placement I am interested in a KM role and am wondering if anyone
might be interested in having me. I am particularly interested in
Intranet and other technologies as KM tools, and would be very keen
to do something related to this area. I am currently working as a
librarian in a legal environment.

I realise July '09 is some way off, but I have to get the ball
rolling with my Uni soon.

If you think you might have a project or something coming up around
that time that I might be able to help you with, I'd love to hear
from you.

Cheers,
Richard Vankoningsveld.

I am still planning to be there by 8 but will have to get away around 9 - I will aim for the bench seats closest to the counter and will wear a black and white top. Sounds like this month will be light on with attendees - I haven't made it for a while so will still go.

Mike,

Looks like I won't be able to make it this month.

We usually sit at the bench seats closest to the counter.

Will anyone else be there?

Thanks

I haven't got around to updating the calendar but we will skip the breakfast for December.

We have had a Christmas lunch in the past. I'll see what I can organise. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Gaby,

I was recently looking at the benefits of Sharepoint over Open Source software such as Dot Net Nuke.  Below are links to some discussion comparing the two (not just from a collaboration point of view but also in terms of the useability from a tech point of view.

Importance: High

Hi all, I hope someone can help…

I have not had experience with SharePoint, but our company will be deploying it in the near future.  We are considering what the default level of access should be for our business unit.  They’ve asked me to argue the benefits of using SharePoint for Team/Group collaboration as one of the options

I’d like to know if anyone has had experience with SharePoint for team collaboration, and what key benefits they have experienced.  Or if anyone can provide links etc to some relevant case studies.  I’m currently goring through some articles in the Microsoft SharePoint site, but I would like to hear from personal experience or view some more concrete examples

Thank you for any help/references you can provide

Warm regards,

Gaby

Hi All,

I too am new to qkm and Australia for that matter and my apologies for
not being able to attend this breakfast :-(.

Just to give some background on myself, I have been in the IT industry
building software solutions for clients for the last 12 odd years and
during this time I have applied knowledge management principles.
Through my masters of information technology management i was able to
formalise my EKM knowledge and understand the domains of both explicit
and tacit knowledge management activities, the role knowledge leaders
play and understand knowledge market principles.

i look forward to your guys views and experiences around EKM.

kind regards,
Jason

ps.If anyone of you are interested i am running what we call a
techspresso on the 31 oct, its also a breakfast from 8:00 to 9:30. Its
around incident management and how you can utilize a platform like
Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server to create a collaborative
environment for team members to resolve disasters. Anyone interested?

Well looks like we have a few for breakfast tomorrow?

So that I know how many tables to lie on, do we have anyone else coming along?

We usually sit near the counter at the front on the cafe on the tables with bench seats. (hopefully this makes sense).

I might even try and bring a sign with the QKM logo on it.

If we get enough people we might do a mini world cafe.

See you tomorrow.

Hi Christine

Many thanks for your email. As I am now in Wollongong I won't be able to go to Brisbane tomorrow. If you get a chance to know about this issue, please let me know.

Hi Cindy,

I don’t have anything and am not aware of anything on the market.  Perhaps you might find some podcasts or clips of presentations at some conferences.  I know Dave Snowden sometimes podcasts.  However, the very nature of KM is around conversation so a training video is kind of contrary to what it’s about (well, that’s my opinion anyway!!).

Why not come along to tomorrow’s breakfast if you’re in Brisbane and meet a few people and see what others may know which can help you out.  You might get some ideas on how others demonstrate the value of KM and what it is about via their induction programs and other initiatives.

Cheers

Chris

Hi everyone,

I'd like to find videos (for staff training) that focus on KM skills, rather than theory, that we might use to illustrate KM tools and techniques. These might include:

1. Knowledge creation

2. Knowledge sharing/transfer

3. Knowledge usage

4. Knowledge storage/capture/ retention

5. Knowledge acquisition (buying knowledge from consultants/ learning from trainers)

I have tried to search on internet but apparently there are not many videos available in these areas. If anyone of you has any suggestions about where to find or purchase these items, please let me know. Thank you for your information.

Regards

Cindy.

KM Asia 2008

Redefining knowledge strategy and engaging a collaborative enterprise

25-27 November 2008

Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre

Five MAKE Award Winners to provide a practical focus at KM Asia 2008

Each year the Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) Awards recognise organisations who are leading the way in knowledge management, intellectual capital and organisational learning practices. These organisations have much valuable experience and practical insights to offer other organisations aspiring to build innovative and knowledge driven enterprises.

KM Asia 2008, taking place 25-27 November 2008 at Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre will bring together five different organisations which have been recognised by MAKE Awards at global, regional, or country level: The World Bank, 3M, Shell, Eureka Forbes and MindTree Limited.

Keynote speaker Nicolas Gorjestani is a Former Chief Knowledge & Learning Officer at The World Bank, a five-time Global MAKE Award Winner recognised for creating an enterprise-driven knowledge culture, developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership, and for creating an environment for collaborative knowledge sharing.

Seven-time Global MAKE Award Winner, 3M, will be represented by J. Roberto Evaristo from their Knowledge Management Program Office, who will be giving a keynote presentation on how innovation in knowledge management is enabling organisational innovation at 3M. The 2007 MAKE panel recognised 3M for delivering value based on customer knowledge.

The programme also features Shell, the recipient of a seventh Global MAKE Award in 2007 for organisational learning and transforming enterprise knowledge into shareholder value. Eureka Forbes, Asia's largest direct sales company will present a case study describing the initiatives that led them to winning a 2007 Asian MAKE Award for its enterprise knowledge sharing and collaboration, and transforming enterprise knowledge into shareholder value. Eureka Forbes is a four-time Asian MAKE Finalist and two-time Asian MAKE Winner. MindTree Limited rounds out the MAKE Award Winner line-up, having been the overall winner of the 2007 Indian MAKE Awards.

Beyond these five MAKE Award Winners, the programme also provides opportunities to hear from knowledge thought leaders Dave Snowden and Nancy Dixon and gain practitioner insights from Singapore Armed Forces; National Library Board; Nanyang Technological University, Knowledge Enterprises; Hong Kong Knowledge Management Society; iKMS; Straits Knowledge, and the author of The Organizational Zoo.
