The 2007 Reelife Short Film Festival is a celebration of Australia's talented young filmmakers, with 15 amazing films scheduled for the National tour. This year's finalists represent the four points of the nation with contributions ranging from Margaret River WA, Reynella SA, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and more.
Young film makers of Australia have answered the call of the 2007 Reelife Short Film Festival with an incredible mix of intelligence, style and nuance that reflects a maturity and artistry that is very exciting for our next generation of filmmakers.
And this year, the festival has expanded to include extra screenings, including an out-of-competition Best of Young British screening of short films from the impressive young talent (15-25 year olds) Britain has to offer. Screened with the support of the British Council, it's your chance to see how our local talent stacks up against the edgy and innovative savviness of young British filmmakers.
Film maestro's Danny Boyle, Mike Leigh, Michael Winterbottom, Terry Gilliam and Christopher Nolan are just a handful of the great directors who were also once young and British, so you'll be mad as an Englishman in the midday sun to miss the arrival of the next order of British filmmaking!

The Reelife Short Film Festival opens the end of April at the Dendy Cinema in Newtown, before heading around the country for a national tour. This year 15 of the best filmmakers aged under 25 will have their creative products showcased to audiences in Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. The Reelife Short Film Festival is an incredibly rewarding venture for young filmmakers, providing a unique platform on a national scale.
It's a hard job to whittle down such an impressive collection of films, but someone had to do it! The films this year were ever so good but if you would please be kind enough to provide a backing track of drum rolls and non-alcoholic sparkling wine corks popping!

This year's entries were the most geographically diverse ever, with over 50 entries coming from almost every state and territory (except something was distracting down in the Apple Isle), including an entry from Groote Eyland, NT, one stop past the Never Never! There is definitely going to be an eclectic palette of unique voices amongst this year's films.
Not only do the finalists get to have that warm and fuzzy feeling deep down, but they are also in the running to win some very fabulous prizes. Stay tuned for the announcement of fantastic prizes for 2007, which if last year is anything to go by, they will be extremely practical for making future films, and worth a lot of money! In 2006 the total prize value was approximately $25,000, ranging from a Sony HDV camera to a place in the summer school of Sydney Film School.

Reelife
is expanding rapidly, with more screenings than ever before and a
return to a full East Coast tour, along with an online component and
international content for the first time. So we're looking to expand
our team to help us stay on-top of all of it, meaning there's great
opportunities to become part of this Festival.
We
are looking for an Assistant Festival Director, to work with the
Festival Director across all aspects of the event. We are looking for
someone with a view to them staying involved and taking on more
responsibility for the 2008 Festival. This position is based in Sydney.
We are also looking for Reelife Coordinators in Canberra and Brisbane.

Time flies when you're having fun, but what a difference a week can make!Summer
is over and with the approach of the winter blues here is little ray of
sunshine to warm the cockles of your heart – Reelife's Call for Entries
has been extended by a week.
Due to overwhelming demand, the
Reelife Short Film Festival is pushing back the deadline for this
year's call for entries until March 12. If it took Martin Scorsese 30
years to finally win an Oscar, it's likely that an extra week of spit
and polish time will come in handy for aspiring Reelife entrants!
But
don't be confused, the only thing that's changed is the date. Reelife
is still looking for the same standard of creative and innovative
excellence from the young filmmakers of our country. Films can be of
any genre, and on any topic. So if you're aged between 15 and 25 and
have a story to tell, make sure you take advantage of the extension and
get your film in by the new date.
Reelife will be screened in
April in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra, and offers a
fantastic opportunity to young filmmakers to get their foot in the
door, and their films screened to a national audience. Excellent prizes
are on hand to assist in continuing the winners' careers, including the
newly created prize for Best Animation.
The deadline for The Reelife Short Film Festival 2007 is rapidly approaching, and you're going to be more confused than Marcus Einfeld if you miss out on entering this year.
So what can you do about it? If you're aged between 15 and 25, pick up a camera and show Australia what you're made of! At Reelife, films can be on any theme or topic, the content is only limited by your imagination. Reelife 2007 aims to be a beautiful collage of all the unique experiences of what it is to be a young Australian, so no matter who you are or where you live or what you believe in, Reelife wants to hear your stories. The Festival will hold its Gala Opening Night in Sydney in April, where finalists will be judged by a panel of industry representatives. Then Reelife will be hitting the road, with screenings to take place in Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra. Last year's Festival saw entries from all the over the country, so this will provide hometown support for many more of our finalists, as well as the chance for these cities to watch some great films by young Australians.

As you would know Reelife is a project of Vibewire Inc, a youth-led non-profit media and arts organisation.Vibewire is dedicated to creating opportunities for younger Australians to express themselves on the issues and cultures that matter to them, including, of course, through film. We believe this work is vital in inspiring, engaging and providing opportunities for young people to put their concerns on the table and be heard in our society.
Vibewire has just launched our first-ever public fundraising appeal and we'd love your support to make it a success. As an organisation without any core (or ongoing) funding we rely primarily on grants to operate, but in order to continue to survive we need to fill the gaps in-between and, like most community organisations, we require community support to do this.
We are incredibly proud of what Vibewire has been able to achieve over the last few years, and with your help we can do even more in the years to come. We have a great 2007 planned, including creating unique and engaging youth-focused coverage of the 2007 federal election, opening the sQuareOne media, arts and community space, seeing Reelife Short Film Festival returning to Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane and launching the next Interface Anthology of new youth writing at the Sydney Writers Festival in May next year. But without great support these projects will be put in doubt. In order to get there and continue to create these sorts of opportunities we need to diversify the sources of our funding and be more proactive in fundraising. This is the important first step in that direction.
But we're not just asking for money for nothing, we've got some great packages of Vibewire products for those who show support (just in time for Christmas as they say). These include the Vibewire 2007 desktop calendar filled with great photography, the Reelife 2006 DVD, magazines and the chance to support young people accessing the sQuareOne space, to open in February 2007.

Welcome to Reelife 2006. I would like to introduce myself as the new coordinator of the festival. My name is Bim Ricketson, I live in Sydney and I myself am a young film maker with something to say. I'm very excited about Reelife and the platform it gives young people to express themselves. I'm also looking forward to all the stuff we will be putting in place over the next 12 months to grow the festival in all sorts of cool ways. You'll hear more about our plans soon.
But this is 2006 and this is now the official call for entries for this year's festival!
We have some great prizes lined up, including a Sony HD camera! The screening/s will be in Sydney Dendy in May. As always you'll need to be under 25 years old and have a film of 10 minutes or less about an issue that's important to you. You'll need to deliver the film to us by March 20th 2006 on a VHS, DVD or Mini DV, with a signed entry form and an $11.00 cheque.
If you have already submitted a film, thankyou! We have logged your films and we will be watching them together with all the new ones that come in. You still qualify if you've turned 26 since you submitted. Thanks for your patience.

The Robin Anderson 2005 High schools Student film awards will be held at the State Theatre,NSW, Australia, with host Margaret Pomeranz and the main prize is awarded by Rowan Woods (Little Fish). It starts at 7:30 pm and promises to be a fantastic showcase of student works.

Just forwarding info about a great OzDox event, all about "Emerging
Documentary Filmmakers" - it involves an open discussion + screening of
short docs, and will be held at UTS campus on October 13th in the evening.

P.S. OzDox is not a partner of Reelife, but I think that generally anything
that benefits emerging filmmakers, and is non-profit - both of which are
integral parts of the the Reelife philosophy - is worth promoting.
Reelife has formed a partnership with “The Salon”, Sydney’s monthly arts and
debate night.
We have the opportunity to screen a few short films at each event, and for the
filmmakers to get up and speak (if they wish).
The next event is this Thursday: 25th August. The theme “IS CIVIL LIBERTY A LIABILITY” will be discussed, + screening a film on civil rights and the new terror laws. Flyer is attached.
For NEXT month, we are looking for short films that relate to the theme: WHY I HATE AMERICA.
We aren’t looking for cheap shots at the expense of the land of freedom: that would be too easy. So if you have something that tackles the idea originally, intelligently, cinematically, then this is a good chance to screen and be part of the debate.
Film under ten minutes and in any genre or style will be considered – not just docos.
The Salon event is on Thursday September 29th.

CAUGHT SHORT is an indy short film night held the first Thursday of the month at the TAP Gallery in Darlinghurst. It aims to provide a space for up and coming film makers to show and discuss their work… as well as providing access to stories and messages we just don't get to see else where!!! It's a not for profit gig run by a couple of short film enthusiasts, keen to get the voices of the masses heard!
We welcome submission of original films for screening consideration at the next instalment. Films can be any length up to 30 mins and we invite a wide range of subjects and styles. Films can be submitted on VHS or DVD and should have been completed within the last 2 years.
* IMPORTANT BREAKING REELIFE NEWS! *
As many people will have heard, the Valhalla Cinema in Glebe (Reelife’s screening home!) recently closed its doors. Sadly, this closure looks permanent. Even worse, the Chauvel has been scheduled to close at the end of September. These leaves many people and orgnisations (including festivals) in Sydney in a predicament.
In this context, we have made a decision to adjust the Reelife schedule, in anticipation of finding a new permanent home.
YES there's movement at the Reelife ranch, and the movement is full steam ahead for MARCH next year, which is the NEW REELIFE SCREENING LAUNCH!! Having been held in September and October since it started in 2002, the Reelife festival is now making a strategic decision to screen at a time that will make it more accessible for university students. Very exciting news for the Reelife team, and hopefully not too disappointing for our entrants!
The new screening launch is also planned to coincide with our hope to launch an online screening space. What does this mean? It means a new part of the Vibewire/reelife website where people can view a selection of Reelife entries from the last 4 years and onwards. This is a positive new collaboration between the Vibewire.net and Reelife branches of Vibewire Youth Services. MOST IMPORTANTLY, an online screening space would greatly advance our mission to become accessible to as many young people as possible.
The NEW CALL FOR ENTRIES deadline for Reelife will be at the end of February, and anyone interested in youth voices generally, their community, or advocating for their pet issue, is encouraged to use the extra time to make something new, bold and original for Reelife 2006. This is one of the few festivals where all you need is a good idea, passion and a 1-chip camera!
We can only give our biggest APOLOGIES to those filmmakers who have already submitted work: please rest assured that your work will be held safely for the judging process early next year.
All other conditions of entry to the Reelife Festival remain the same, and there WILL be spectacular prizes. So get out and active, an eye to the heavens and an ear to the ground for news via pony or carrier-pigeon. Or just keep checking the Reelife website at www.vibewire.net/reelife.

The Reelife Short Film Festival is looking for some brilliant and
enthusiastic people to join the team for 2005! Reelife is an annual
short film festival that showcases work by Australian filmmakers aged
25 and under. It is a youth organisation run by young people aged 15 to
30 and has been going since 2002.
We are currently looking for staff for this year’s festival. We
need four amazing people with a passion for youth expression coupled
with exceptional skills and experience to make 2005’s festival our best
yet! The positions are:
Assistant to the National Festival Coordinator
This position is an excellent chance to make great contacts and get
hands on experience. Working closely with the National Festival
Coordinator, you'll get get to experience first hand what it takes to
coordinate a major project like a film festival. So you'll need to be
enthusiastic about learning project management and you should have good
time management skills. You'll need excellent written communication
skills because you’ll be emailing a lot. If you’re interested in film
we’d like that a lot. For this position you should be 25 years or
under.
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane Publicity Managers
These positions are the perfect opportunity for people with some
experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations to use
these skills and consolidate your experience in a more autonomous
environment than would be available to you elsewhere. You’ll need to be
committed to Reelife as a project and a philosophy; experienced in
virtual communication – email, phone, online chat and so on; and
experienced in producing marketing materials, booking
advertising, and/or media and public relations. Things that will give
you an edge for these positions include an interest in film, experience
you have working with non-profit or grassroots organisations, and
having useful contacts in your city.
All positions are volunteer and need a time commitment of about one day

I suppose most of you know, Reelife is a non-profit project run by young
people, and presenting films by people 25 years and under. We are made financially possible through our own fundraising,
sponsorship support, and grant support from the Foundation for Young Australians.
More
importantly, we are made possible by participation from brilliant young
artists/filmmakers, and audiences that care, enough to turn up and see
something different!
In
2004 we present short animations, documentaries, dramas, comedies and
experimental films, about everything from the state of the world, to Australian
politics, to the strength of friendships, pain in relationships, depression,
and being a skater.
We
are really appreciative of support from Spinach7, 3RRR and Open Channel in our
first year in Melbourne, big thankyous!
There
are two screenings, and different programs on each night:
Sunday October 31st 7pm:
All
the Reelife 2004 Finalists – 15 short films, the whole gamut.
Monday November 1st 7pm:
The
5 Reelife 2004 Prize-winners, and half of the program showcasing our Victorian
entries. Because of the generosity of Open Channel, we are able to present an
Audience Choice prize to the film voted for on the night. This includes:

Hey there guys n gals,
it's all drawing to an inevitable conclusion, so be there for the
final chapter, this Sunday September 26th at Valhalla Cinemas,
Glebe, 7.30pm.
The short films screening range from black humour to beautiful,
films that'll make you laugh, films that'll make you cry, possibly
films that'll make you think "shit! i couldve done that! Next year
i'm entering and winning lots of cool shit!"...
On the night we will be giving away silly amounts of stuff, like
