Awesome pics.  :D
Thankyouuuuuuuuuuu

Having a blast on the big track was something real special.

Not all the bikes survived the extended WOT, as expected.  There were broken & cooked motors throughout the categories.  It was worth the sacrifice to get even a few laps of the historic track.

I tell ya, blasting round there, & realising you can't really afford a lose with so much armco barrier & so little run-off.  Even keeping the cornering within conservative paramaters gave such a buzz.  Going up the hill on the sweeping bends.  Crouching behind the bars to squeeze a bit more top speed on the straight.

Our day's racing on the small circuit was slightly hurried with the tight schedule compressed because of the shared use of track with the Alfa Romeo.  This actually turned out for the better as you didn't have much time to do anything & your next race was up already.  Newbie Rob, rocked up together with his family.  Rob was on a TGB from the auctions.  Some techie help from the rest of the riders got the elctronically restricted bike going faster pretty quickly.

Glen from the North Brisbane Pocket Bikes had a nasty spill.  A very big lose on about turn 3.  Injured his leg with a big slapper on the bitumen.  Glen was unable to continue racing as movement was serverely compromised in his leg.  Glen was also unable to enjoy the big circuit for the same reason ......possibly a once in a lifetime chance busted!   I didn't have the heart to do anything but offer him a ride on my scoot on the big track......I tell ya : he's not shy, & was mixing it with Tony on his upgeared Lammy.  The Barmy Bandit sounded a treat roaring past.  I've got it on video & look forward sharing with you all asap.

I think I'll be doing laps in my sleep tonight.

Paul remembers racing on the track on big bikes in decades past........ was the track much different from how you remember it?  I noticed some ripples on the right side of the track approaching the hill, & wondered if they've always been there.....quite bumpy there.    It was a very enjoyable experience to practice on such a circuit with big sweeping bends that tighten up & fall off camber to catch you out.

Can we play there again, please?  :D

Paul will be there this Sunday with equipment to fit out any bikes requiring sliders.
Below is a pasted message from Lakeside Management concerning this Sunday's Racing & Track Day.  :D  cu there!  :D

QR has made a stuff up with this weekends round..
They double booked our track.. The Alfa Romeo Club was booked to be on our track from 9am til 5pm..

A compromise has been dealt and we have been granted track time from 9am til 1pm..

Also for compensation all Snr riders only need to pay $30.. Jnr riders only need to pay $15..

As a super sweetener.. We are permitted to use the main circuit from 1.00pm til 4.00pm..YeeHAAAA!!!!!!!!!

So, We will skip the morning practice sessions and go straight into racing and we will then utilize the remaining time as our practice sessions on the main track..

ALL BIKES MUST COMPLY WITH THE SLIDER RULE BY THIS SUNDAY OR YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY..

Also, this Saturday(Anzac Day) Lakeside will have their gates open to push bike riders to ride on the main track..
After QR consulted the 'Dept of Industrial Relations', the cost is totally free.. It is illegal for any Organisation/Club/Group to charge anyone on Anzac Day(which the Archy riders would be happy to hear)..

This Sunday is going to be a 'blinder' as we may never get the chance to ride our bikes on the main circuit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you all then!!!!

Hello Ben
I've owned a 50cc Sym since january and have been looking out for people to have a ride with. Mt Glorious sounds terrible on a 50cc scooter, the suggestions on Redcliffe through to Victoria Point sounds like a great idea, as well as picnics / cafes at New Farm or West End or where ever. Perhaps the best way to discuss this would be to have a meeting (not at Mt Glorious)

I have a question and I would love to hear from as many people as
possible. Is the GFC (Global Financial Crisis) affecting your ability to attend
Scooter events?

I'd definately agree with this.

Glorious can be a pain and is a challenge even with a motorbike, used to be a
haunt of mine.

BBQ's in the park would be good, cheaper maybe coordinate a donation system with
it to cover costs so affordable to all?? i dunno.

Either way, i'm hoping to come along to one soon and partake in Advanced
training when the next one comes up. i'm starting to save now :)

Cheers
Paul

I think this is a fair point hence we welcome all suggestions from people who
would like to come along and join us. We understand that not all rides will
appeal to all riders so this is why we generally run alternatively distanced
runs and try to incorporate rides for our 50cc friends.

The fact that Scooteroo is not a club allows people to put suggestions up. This
is a great flexibility that not all riding groups have.

Any ideas for more lower capacity friendly rides?

Hi Folks,

I think Kerry raises some good points. I'm just a 'lurker' on this mailing list
currently but I agree with most of what he said.

The crisis is a problem, but I wanted to draw attention to his comments about
the 50cc riders being intimidated in particular. I own a Fly 125 so that's much
more than 50cc but I'm still not that keen on joining in with the 'traditional'
Mt. Glorious rides. I've been up there a few times myself on the scooter and
it's just not pleasant, pulling 30km/h up the hills, holding up the odd
aggressive ute driver commuting or whatever... I just haven't seen it as
worthwhile, despite my love for that trip and the area.

A similar problem exists for the longer treks though too. They're just a bit of
a strain for anything under about 200 or 250cc from what I can tell. These are
trips I'd do alone, avoiding highways now, as I discovered that when I went out
with the guys from MaxiTAG I don't think it's fair to hold other (faster) group
members up all day with a slower machine.

I know that Scooteroo probably has a majority of lower capacity machines when
compared with something like MaxiTAG, but I think the problem still remains.
Mountains can be a major pain, highways can too and so on and so forth.

I hope this doesn't come off as critical, especially since I'm fairly
'anonymous' with nobody but Ben having met me in person, however I just wanted
to run over the reasons I haven't been attending. Hopefully some other people
will 'get' what I'm talking about. I'm currently just planning to continue

know will *not* hold the group up if people want to pick up the pace or take off
up into the mountains... However, back to the financial crisis and that might be
a long way off.

Just my 2c. I hope it's not unwelcome. =)

Best regards,

Alex.

Very good points indeed and more ideas are welcomed. We might put forward a
meeting date to see what some options are and I like the idea of more bbq's and
there are so many nice places around Brisbane to have them.

If anyone is up for a ride this weekend post it up otherwise there is always
scooter racing at Lakeside to have a look at.

Hi all..  I think uncertainty with the financial crisis is having an effect on everyone.  I guess all are watching their money especially when you think your job is secure and its not.   People seem to be working longer hours and find that weekends really are their rest days and catching up with the domestic duties of life and  quality time with children/grandchildren.

Even though I budget for the essential bills, when something breaks down or you get caught out with a speeding ticket (dah!!)  ... some luxuries just get put by the wayside, that being the advanced rider training.  As much as it would be a great investment in my riding skills the budget just didnt stretch that far.

BYO picnics are  a idea good and there are plenty of places from Redcliffe to Victoria Point.
A night ride wouldnt be out of the question.     I've also been thinking an overnight run will be stretching the budget at this point in time.......

Perhaps a meeting time and place to discuss ideas would be a better forum  (face to face) and for those who usually dont come riding but would like to meet other scooterists this would be their opportunity -- rather than a meet and greet ride out.   Sunday morning  (10am) coffee somewhere central in the city, NewFarm or Bulimba etc.??

Do you think that being a scooter group the 50cc riders are intimidated by the motorcycle riders that come along?

Hope to read some other comments
Safe riding one and all

Kerry.

Benito,

I think this deserves a thread of its own, as many people may not spot it here?

It's a very valid point, as it affects possible weekends away. If folks just
prefer a half-day out then we can plan accordingly.

Ben,

(If my earlier attempt to post this message eventaully appears then disregard

This is a valid point, and worth a thread of its own. If folks prefer shorter
runs then organising things like weekends away, apart from Boreen Point, seems
unlikely to be succesful.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi Ben,

I'd love to do the course but it will have to wait a little before I can afford to do it. I'm surprised there isn't more interest. If I was currently working I'd be in it in a flash.

Thanks for letting us know about it anyway.

Hello Scooteroos,

I might just add here that most insurance companies will offer you with a discount on your next scooter/motorcycle insurance premium for having completed certified rider training courses from recognized registered training providers; Morgan & Wacker IS one of these providers.

Also…if you happen to be a member of the Ulysses Club, their National Committee will refund $80 of your course fees for any course taken in any 3-year period.

Cheers all,

Dennis

> The Mt Cotton Rider Training is coming up on the 17th of May and will prove to be the most valuable training you can do on 2 wheels. If it has been a while since you have done a rider skills course or if you have only done a Q-Ride course then the Morgan and Wacker advanced rider skills course is a great way to brush up on your skills. Considering that your rider skills are your personal insurance to safe riding it makes alot of sense to brush up from time to time.

> Here is some information take from the Morgan and Wacker site:
> Morgan and Wacker Motorcycle Training Centre's Rider Skills Course is held at the Queensland Government's training facility at Mt Cotton. This facility provides a 2km training circuit that represents all possible cornering scenarios found on the open road. The Rider Skills Course provides riders with the opportunity to enhance their cornering lines and to engage in activities including emergency braking up to 100km/hr, crash avoidance techniques, overall road planning and decision making. The facility provides the perfect controlled environment to improve your skills without the presence of extra road dangers. A three hour theory component is required before the commencement of the practical training. This component provides the theoretical foundation for the practical skills. It covers such areas such as braking distance, reaction times and learning how to read corners. To participate in this course riders must have a motorcycle licence, supply their own motorcycle and safety gear. A must do course for all riders. Seriously good fun.

> Being part of the Scooter Group you also get a great discount too.
