We have 4 people interested in this course so far and we will need a
few more to look at running it. Is anyone else interested in learning
important riding skills? Last time we ran this course it was only
$160, normal cost is $265.

Cheers,

Benito

When the parking restrictions came in force on Monday, the Turbot Street area (under QR) was a shocker.   But around Wednesday, they made the whole Turbot Street QR footpath available for MC parking (like it was before the restrictions).  This is great, and when I got in there at 7.35am this morning, there were still parks available in this area.

Please be aware that the traffic island before the on-ramp to the Turbot Street footpath and the little triangle shaped bit of bitumen which is in the QR laneway, is not good for motorcycle parking.  Park there, and you will probably get a fine.

The enforcement starts on Monday 4th so be very careful.  I would say that you won't be able to appeal a fine if you park in the overflow areas now.  As the area is now clearly signed, there is no more grey area considerations.

I have also sent an email to the department, roadusemanagement@..., with some extra suggestions for added parking in the new areas on Turbot Street.  Hopefully they will add more bays to the areas to further enhance motorcycle parking in the area.

Fingers crossed...

Hi everyone

The new motorcycle parking areas/restrictions came into effect in the city from 28.7.08.

Make sure you check where you park and read all the signs as there are a few changes

that may affect you.   There are now pay and displays too.

Hey Everyone,

I had a call from Dennis from Morgan and Wacker the guy who helped
organise the last Scooteroo advanced rider training. He has approached
me to see if there would be another group of people wishing to do this
wonderful skills course. If you did the last one you are welcome to go
again but you won't have to do the theory night again. The course is
split in to 2 sections a theory night and a practical skills day.
Everyone who attended last time had a great day and learnt some very
important riding skills.

This is just message to just to gain any expressions of interest.
Dennis is hoping for late September or early October. If you are
interested drop me a line. Course is for over 50cc scooters only.

Hi Scooteroos
Two weeks before the Boreen Pt. overnighter is the Hunter Gatherers'
Ride - three days of cruising Fri 31st Oct/Sat 1st Nov/Sun 2nd Nov.

The following has been lifted from www.maxitag.org
The Scooteroo name is there, all you have to do is fill in the spaces.
250cc and up would be the go, but we might also have some 125s that
can set the pace on distance runs.
To get from Brisbane to Uralla on the New England Tableland it's 500km.
We are expecting riders from five scoot groups so far, from Noosa to
Gosford.

"Uralla recce results.

It was a mission - three scoot riding days crammed into two car
driving days, and Lyn still with the flu, but improving.
After a week in bed cabin fever was also setting in, so the weekend
away was a positive boost for her, and she was not too bad by Sunday
morning.

This area of the New England Tableland is really popular with the bike
cruising fraternity, and as it turns out, the Top Pub at Uralla is THE
place for two wheelers to stop over.
The staff ride bikes, and are very sympathetic to the noble cause.

The whole set up is a reminder of Bellingen and the Federal Pub, but
instead of lush rainforests and steep mountain backdrops, there are
rolling grassy hills, stands of dry country gums, sheep, and a good
handful of huge tin shearing sheds.
A bit like Boonah/Beaudesert country, but without all the farm houses,
and more bush.

A couple of beds (two singles to a room) are already booked by bike
riders for our weekend.
A bunch of others had not confirmed their emailed enquiry, so I put a
deposit on the remaining 14 singles and the one double.
Subo and I have already booked in - but not in the double.
Cost - $30 per person per night.
Rooms and amenities - basic, but comfortable.
Pub noise - shouldn't be a problem.

To book into the Top Pub
http://www.toppuburalla.com.au/entertainment/welcome.asp , either
phone them direct and leave your name, but make sure you mention
Maxitag or Smoko Bob.
The deposit has already been paid.
OR - contact me and I will do it for you.
ALSO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE REGISTERED ON THIS THREAD THE FACT THAT YOU
WILL BE RIDING ON THE HUNTER GATHERERS' NOVEMBER RUN.

Meals look good - bistro around $15, a la carte around $25.
Other good eating venues also in Uralla.

Any one choosing to pitch a tent can do so in the hotel grounds, or
the Uralla Caravan Park is a block behind the pub, and charge $17 per
night for one or two people - no booking required.

If we are swamped with riders, there is other accommodation.
Another pub is down the road - the Thunder Bolt Inn.
http://www.visitnsw.com/town/Uralla/Thunderbolt_Inn/info.aspx
The Thunderbolt Inn has 20 singles and 7 doubles I am told, @ $35 each
per night - bathroom down the hall which would be acceptable to most.
They have no bookings as yet over the weekend of our ride.
The Top Pub is cheaper because there is an automatic discount for two
wheelers.

The Top Pub recommends the Bushranger Motor Inn (no noise and total
privacy) where I spoke to Ann.
Her units are from $99 to $140 per room per night.
Ann advised there is a wedding on "in town" that weekend and her units
are already being booked.
Pressure pressure!!

Friday - leave Brisbane (time to be advised) and pick up riders on the
way.
Pickup places yet to be advised, depends on who is coming, and where
they are coming from - but let's keep it simple.
Bris CBD to Uralla CBD almost spot on 500km.
Warwick might be a good place to stop for refreshments/coffee/brunch -
first cafe over the bridge LHS.

Friday night at the Top Pub - relax, socialize, meet & greet.
Unravelling of Hunter Riders' banners.
These guys are real serious!
The maps, Natmap GDA, to help us along the circuit - Armidale SH56-10,
Manilla SH56-09, Inverell SH56-05.
It is a straight forward easy run, and I have been over all of it.

All the roads in the area and on the circuit are sealed and well serviced.
There are few gravel shoulders, the grass grows right up to the
bitumen so you feel you really are riding country roads.

About the 270 km circuit for the Saturday ride -
If everyone is happy with brunch at Inverell which is at the northern
end of Thunderbolt's Way (120 kms), then a quick tea/coffee and toast
will be all we need before kick off from the Top Pub, possibly 8am/8.30am.

About half way to Inverell (70 km mark) is Bundarra, where we can
comfort stop at ammenities overlooking the river (Gwyder I think).

At Inverell there are not many "nice" cafes that I could find.
Yes - there is a McDonalds.
Oslo's Fine Foods would be the best bet, but don't normally open on
Saturdays.
'Phoned Peter of Oslo's who would open up just for us, providing he
had notice that at least a dozen turn up.
We can contact Peter as soon as we decide this is what we want to do,
or take pot luck elsewhere on the day.
Sorry - unable to give you Oslo's menu prices.

From Inverell it's a 150 km return trip to Uralla via Gilgai (a
surreal spot), Tingha (you won't believe this wild west "town"),
Guyra, and Armidale bypass.

Saturday afternoon - relax.
Saturday night - meal at the pub, drinks, with possibly a blues band
or similar.
Sunday - goodbye to southern riders and off home.

PLEASE POST YOUR INTENTION TO ATTEND THIS RIDE ASAP.
Accommodation will become an issue, unless you plan to pitch a tent..

Questions?"

Don't let the grey skies put you all off. The BOM site says that only
light rain will develop in the evening. So come out for a run this

no worries, you're right about being confused, I have looked at some
scooters in the 125cc capacity. I test rode a Bug 125cc after I moved
up here but I haven't ridden a bolwell but I have read good reviews
about them. Keep talking to people, they offer the best reviews
because they live with their scooter everyday.

Hey Trace,

I had an Arqin Sprint 125 when I was living in Sydney and it was
a "cheap" scooter. It didn't cost me much to buy it but once I added
all the time I wasted at the dealer fixing "warranty" issues. I think
I
should have spent a few hundred dollars more and bought a better
known
brand. I don't know what the story is up here in Brisbane though so
it
could be different.

Hello all,

To those that may be interested, I'm selling my black 250GTi. It's a great
scooter and I'll be
sorry to see it go. The reason I'm selling is I am going to purchase a PX and I
already have a
couple of vintage scoots. I figure it'll be easier to replace the GTi than the
vintage bikes if I
really miss it. Anyway, I bought it from Joe and it has been regularly serviced.
Not a scratch
on it. Rego is good until the end of December. It has 19,000 km on it and I am
asking $6500
ono. I'll be putting it up publically next week. Email if interested.

Cheers,

Sean

Hi Trace

Welcome, and congratulations on getting into the wonderful world of
scootering. I think you'll like the scooter scene. It's a good move
to get more than a 50cc - it will just mean you don't have to upgrade
as quickly.

I have a former work colleague who has had some nasty scares on a 50cc
and she is looking into getting her Q-Ride sorted as I type this.

I ride a MP3 250ie with white reflective checkers on it. Give us a
wave if you see me about.

Cheers

Hey Everyone,

This sunday is our long ride for the month. Long ride..... well not
really, but you bring you bucket and spade as we are off to
sandgate :)

Meet time is as 9am at Scooters Scooters in Fortitude Valley, then we
will head up to Sandgate. This will be a 50cc friendly ride so those
out there that haven't been able to come on the longer runs feel free
to come along. It will be good to see you all.

We will be having late breakfast/brunch at Sonomoas on Flinders
Parade at Sandgate (Owner rides a Vespa :P ). For those wishing to go
for a longer ride we can head off from Sandgate after brunch and
maybe head across the bridge to Redcliffe.

We will keep an eye on the weather and will only run if it isn't
raining.

Cheers,

Benito.

Welcome Trace,
Yes they are easier to ride.
I did my full open bike licence when I did my cse as I want to get a Triumph eventually, when I win lotto perhaps....
You and the other half can come on the runs as we don't care what you ride as long as it has wheels.

any good around trucks and will need to go up in size .Though I have
never driven a bike or scooter I have been told it is easy to ride a
scooter cos there are no gears to worry about .Gears on a motorbike
confuse the heck out of me .

Thats ok Dan. I'd rather do more than 2-3 runs too. We'll stay with the
aug 6 date.

Next week will be VERY busy and we might only get 2-3 runs. Personally I am not keen on travelling 50+k’s and 3-4 hours for a couple of runs, but, that being said if the majority of people want to go next week I will happily conform.

Yep, cancelled.

We will go for a fortnight from now (6 AUG) as next week will be crazy as the last two have been postponed due to weather.

I'm thinking Jason will be on the verge of breaking 16 seconds and his
Typhoon will explode or melt. Not trying to jinx him or anything and
he'd know his Typhoon better than anyone but I must remind everyone
that this is the "joker" that told us (Rob, Shell and I) that he'd
change the 70cc kit out for the 50cc to hang with us in the 4th round
of racing in the youngstars. So while Rob & I were still punting round
on the 70cc Bandits, I'm the sure the bike lengths Jason put between
himself and us was well into the double figures. Put it this way, I
thought he was about to lap me there at one point. He must have done a
typo in his email and meant to write 500cc!!!

But bummer about the weather..... Let's hope it holds out for you guys.

Yeah....was looking very iffy on the radar.

Can we collectively mark the calendar for the next one, eh?  Maybe when a sunny week is gonna happen?

Anyone need any gear to come along to the next Test & Tune?  The more the merrier!

Don't know if textiles are allowed, but we can offer to lend:-

2 textile jackets with armour

2 pair of leather riding pants

2 pair of textile pants

1 pair of size 8 high ankle steel cap work boots....very rigid & hardlly worn.

Anyone else have anything to offer as a loaner?
