Yes my Michelin Sport City only lasted 4000k last tyre I had. Maybe I was expecting too much from the very chunky Pirellis but I wore thru them too soon I thought.
I am getting a free set of Michelins for winning the furthers travelled at the NSR.
I asked if they have the GT gold standard ones and they will see if they have them in 120/70, 130/70 size, else I'll get the sport city ones.
Just have to get them and the scoot to Scooter life to get them fitted.

Larry,
I was just looking through my old receipts from when I had on my
GT200 a few years back. I tried a set of expensive Michelin tyre
which costs me about $140 each which is really expensive for a 12inch
tyre. I only got 3500km out of those tyres. Most tyres these days are
made in the same factory and different brands charge different
prices. I find these days your run of the mill no name brands to be
as good and last longer than the name brands! Go figure?

Hi all,

I'm currently doing PhD research on scooter & moped safety in
Brisbane and am planning some discussion groups with regular riders
to get their views, thoughts and experiences on safety and transport
planning issues.

I plan to hold several sessions of 2 hours each, during evenings on
weekdays, over the next month or two (until about early April). The
meetings will take place at QUT's Kelvin Grove campus and
participants will each recieve $50 cash as compensation for their
time. It should be a relaxed setting and catering will be provided.

If you are interested in joining one of the groups, please let me
know by email, or by telephone on 3138 8448. You can leave a message
if I'm out of the office. I'm looking for a cross-section of riders,
so if you could provide your vehicle model/engine size, age and
gender (if it's not already obvious), along with your contact
details that would be great. I'm looking for up to 10 riders who are
Scooteroo members.

Cheers, Ross

After a 24 hr the tyres are shot, getting 6500kms out of a tyre would
be great for racing. I must admit I haven't heard of many tyres
laster any longer on a GTS especially doing highway/touring work.
Maybe you could look at getting some solid rubber tyres like what
they have on a forklift. It would last for ages and never blowout.
Grip and comfort, are they really that important? :-P

Hey Boo Boo,
I like the idea of taking a pic-a-nic basket! (better read with a
Yogi Bear Voice) :-)I can pack a little footy, a blanket and toss in
a few sangers too. Sounds like a plan to me.

I haven't been to the Port before so I think it is great idea and
having some 50cc's along would be swell.

Le Minz is this weekend for those interested. It looks like it might
be a little wet though :(

Hi Mr B

That sounds like a lovely run. I've never been out to the Port of
Brisbane, but I hear it is really nicely developed.

I think we should be right for this ride, but I'll check with Kimmie
and see if we want to go together.

We might do the picnic thing - that would be nice for a change.

Cheers

Hi all
Im in! Ive ridden my Vespa 50 from Scooters Scooters in the Valley
to Wynnum North without any problems - its an easy enjoyable run.
I think this outing will be a great place to meet other scooterists
and chat - not that I will remember everyone's names - so apologies in
advance.
Port of Brisbane sounds an interesting place - havent been there since
it had its upgrade.
I will probably get something from the cafe but will bring along a
picnic blanket anyway. I might have to dig around my son's old toy
box for a frizby.....

Question Mr Bee - what if it turns out to be raining that day? Is
there an alternative site for a meet and greet?

Cheers
Kerry

Why don't we kick off with a get-to-know-folks picnic ride within the
city, Sunday 22 February.

If you're keen we can gather at Scooters Scooters in the city, maybe
around 10am, and head for the bay, the Port of Brisbane in particular.

There's a good visitors' centre set in a park with zillions of
waterbirds, space to throw a frisbee or smack a ball around, or just
sit in some shade and enjoy a chat or three.

The ride is in the calendar as Wellington Point but the Port is easier
if you have a 50cc scooter. BYO picnic, or buy whatever you fancy from
the cafe.

What do people think? Interested? Please post here so we can get some
idea of possible numbers.

Cheers,

Mr Bee

Benny usually buys big breakfasts for us all so that's worth coming for
:-)

See ya on another ride sometime...

Hey Everyone,

Leroy,
Sorry to hear that no one turned up for the ride but don't be
disheartened as we will be back for the long ride in 2 weeks time.

This weekend is the 24hr Le Minz at the Gold Coast. I haven't set any
plans for people to come down but if you interested in coming along
and having a look then post you intention and you might be able to
get a little group together for a ride down.

Was wondering if it was because of Le Minz 24 Scootathon preparations.

Come along & see a bunch crazy 50cc's going nuts.
It's at the Gold Coast Parklands http://maps.google.com.au/?ie=UTF8&ll=-27.962116,153.388308&spn=0.002592,0.004828&t=h&z=18

Be sure to drop by & say G'Day etc.....don't worry if some of us aren't so coherent
Racing starts at 12 noon.

Hi Leroy

Welcome to Scooteroo :/

You weren't mistaken - today was the day that the affectionately named
"Mountain Run" was scheduled.

Usually we get a minimum of 5 scoots turn up for this run (that is the
least number I have seen in my 2+ years with the group). To have no
one turn up at all is simply unbelieveable! !

I was keen to go, but have had a mongrel summer cold all weekend. I
needed the sleep more than I needed the 6.30am wake-up call. :)

Don't be discouraged - keep an eye out for the 'long ride' activities
the club run as well. If you like, you can always post up your
intention to ride before you go on the forum. Although not necessary,
it will give other scooterists a heads-up that it won't be 'just
them'.

Again, sorry we let you down - especially on your first ride. Geez
guys: what's going on???

Cheers

Hi Tony,

Many thanks for your kind offer re funds.  Queensland Raceways is sponsoring the track time in what they call "Small Wheel Sundays".
Just attending the events or, if not riding, offering to do flaggy duties would be awesome.
If funds are available then perhaps this could be used for promotional materials or to repair the track which, although in good condition, has some slight damage, apparently.  Better talk to QLD Raceways re the track.  Promotional materials could be organised between scooterists, although having it encompassing the other categories, too, would be the way to go, & we should discuss this with them.

No restriction on cc's according to "Kimberly" from http://nbpbc.proboards.com/index.cgi  who is the primary organiser, however the final answer will come from Qld Raceways.

*  Registration for the Track Day is at 8am
*   Australian Auto Sport Alliance license.  This is $55/year and no rider can set tyre on track without this.

*  Juniors will be $35 for 6 starts at 10 minutes each
*  Seniors will be $50 for 6 starts at 10 minutes each
*  Events will begin at 9:30am sharp.

Mirrors & stands will have to be removed.  Might I suggest oggy knobs is the way to go although not yet a requirement by the organisers.

Another thought:  we should bring any pop-ups or marquees as there is no cover from the sun or rain.

I'm just so looking forward to having a blast on the track.  My bikes have been collecting dust & hornet nests.....pretty sad.
At last we get a chance to have a bit of  a Yeee Haaa   on a relatively local (to Brissy) track.  So convenient!  Saves time & fuel expenses in getting to tracks further afield.
I really hope this track lives up to our expectations.  I rather hope it's be a good track for developing rhythm due to it's flowing nature, compared to Ipswich Kart Track which has some (what I call) "rude interruptions".

Cheers,
Rob

Sorry no can do as the scoot has no rear tyre :-(
Blew a split in the bald carcass 10km south of Grafton.
Called RACQ and with Ultra care got towed home the last 312KM to my door.

SO a few lessons,
1 the friggin expensive Pirelli extra thick touring tyres, do not last longer then normal tyres, 6500km and they are bald and f*&ked. (maybe I needed to be over on the sides more as they still have a bit of tread left)
2 don't do a trip without RACQ ultra Care
3 NRMA suck !!! as even with Ultra cover they treat you like shit and make you pay for a tow and then you have to chase reimbursement with your own club (RACQ for me)
4 the scooter store in Sydney rocked when they came back and opened the store at 7pm so I could put the bike in to get fixed ( new belt, rollers, guide, air, oil, etc etc )
5 if you do too much scootering you can get a calloused throttle hand :-)
6 take more then 1 cd/iPod/memory card of tunes as the same songs get a bit boring after 2 weeks.

Next weekend (14th/15th) there is the annual 24hr endurance race at the

we would love your support by taking a ride down to watch some of the

Hi Tony,

No restrictions in cc's or manufacturer : all welcome!

I need to resolve your questions with the organisers (to be 100% sure), but I honestly think that there should be no restriction on cc due to the circuit being quite tight.  So, for example, someone rocking up on a 250cc 4T would have the extra weight to try chucking around if they're wanting to keep up (race) with tuned 2T's.

Whatever the case we'll have hoot!

I'll shortly upload a pic to the Scooteroo site of the track map.

So far it's a "Track Day", but being our own track time then we could informally make some of the sessions a race for some added fun.

There is a dB limit of 84.  Please be prepared.   Most of the noise would be from pod filters.

I'll get back to ya pronto when I've got the confirmation re cc's.

I may be back in time for this Sundays Glorious run, but maybe not ?????

I reckon i could give Casey Stoner a run for his money now that I have completed
the Advanced Cornering and Road Kill Avoidance rider training course, (doing a
lap of Tassie)
I am lucky I won a set of Michelin tyres at the NSR as I will need them when I
get back , if not before. I think I need ones with thicker side tread if I come
to Tassie again, as most of the time your at a 45' or more lean for the
hairpins.
Glorious has nothing on the roads in Tassie, Friggin' AWESOME , did I mention
how AWESOME the riding is there, well its Friggin' AWESOME. You know you want to
go and ride there dont you........
Well I am in Melbourne at my brother in laws for 2 days, while I recover from
the awesomeness of tassie and will do a little shopping.
Bike is running OK for the moment but is now in need of its next 5000k service
and I still have 2000k to do to get home, hope the tyres last...
Will upload pics when I get back and do a more indepth travel blog with details
as did do some notes...
Gotta go check to see if my washing is done so I dont smell like a smelly
scooterist covered in bug splatter anymore ( I'm typing this in a pair of boxers
and a smile :-)

Cya in a few days after a pleasurably slow ride up the coast back to Brisvages.

BFG (Bald Fat Guy) on a scooter
:-)
