Hi Malcolm,
Have you downloaded the service manual from the yahoo site? Section
4.23 and 4.24 go into re-timing the engine and putting the cams back
in. There's a few diagrams of how it's supposed to be timed, as well as
quite a thorough procedure to follow.
I'd forget about the scratch marks you've made on the cams and chain and
follow this procedure to get it back in line.
