Hi Malcom,
The idle mixture settings are the four screws on the top of the carbs,
furthest towards the engine. Stock settings are at 1.5 turns from lightly
seated (in).
To properly tune these, I believe that you'll need an exhaust gas
analyser, though you can tune them by ear/RPM.
You'll be tuning the idle for the smoothest running/highest RPM. To tune,
turning the screws out makes the mixture richer, in is leaner. You may
need to turn each one out from stock (making note of how far out you've
turned it) if you've got any inlet/exhaust mods.
What you should do, is make note of where they are now, counting the
number of turns until they're seated. Set them to the stock position,
then turn each one out (making note of the number of turns) until the revs
peak, then drop off. Turn the screw back in until the revs peak again.
Re-set the idle after you've done each cylinder.
This may also help you with fault finding:

On a side note, do you still have the body of your GS250FW (minus
engine/electrics of course)? And would you be willing to part with it?
Let us know how you go, and do you have any pictures of your kart?
Cheers,
Carl
