Hi Anthony,
I had a reply from you a long time ago about my GS250 not wanting to idle.
You said you had the same problem. Did you ever get an answer?
I finally got back to mine the other day - here's the deal....
It will not start cold except for using aerostart !!!!!
It then starts immediately and will run under FULL choke until warmed up
Gradually backing off choke and watching revs, it will finally run at about
2000-3000 - no choke.
It is rideable under these conditions and seems to restart while warm
without too much trouble.
Once started it runs well - plenty of power [slightly dead 7000-9000], seems
to be gtood except for the 2000-3000 lower limit [which soetimes becomes
4000].
I have checked float levels, slides, jets, all seem to be OK [then I'm not a
mechanic]. I even checked the diaphram on the fuel valve, thinking there may
be an airleak, not so.
The airbox had no filter or filter retaining items in it, I have not been
able to get an original so I manufactured a filter with aluminium strips and
airleaner foam [hoping this would be sufficient] - maybe this is my problem,
I have been told they are a bit fussy here [but I had a 250 Kwaka that
didn't care if it had an airbox or not].
At one stage I was going to replace the carbs and be done with it, but I
have not been able to come up with a pair that are in suitable condition.
So Anthony, or anyone else for that matter, I would be glad of any help you
can give.
As I said, once it is running - it goes very well, remembering the low rev
limit of 2000-3000.
But Anthony, I am particularly interested in what you found with yours.
Regards...

ex-mechanic who for 14 years worked for porche and ferrari and he fix's
cars/bikes for pure enjoyment, for a small fee of course. Hoping to take my
bike to him in about a week so once he finds the prob I can email you if you
like.
