Please please make it go, or buy it.
Ok I have been building a off road go kart for years now and it just doest
look like it is going to go. my let down is i dont know enough about bike motors
and have hade a bad run with mechanics.
I have a Gs250fwd i got from the wreckers in my go kart i built. long story
short i cant make it go. Why i dont know, first the valuve clearances, paid got
those fixed then a second cdi unit and still cant start it, on the one occation
i can start it, I got it to run great, It has good spark and compression but
damm hard to start often just doesnt. $$ is not so much the prob but the amount
of time i have spent on it is killing me. Last year also purchased another
GS250f 83 model complet bike aswell. It had been in a garage for a while and
does not run either, has spark compression and 2x jammed airjets on the carbies
like my other set. I thought i would get it for parts or spares since these
bikes are kind of rare. I have had a quick go at getting the bike going, not
much luck there either but didnt try much. I really would prefer to get the one
in the go kart going first since i have actully had it running.
Well if anyone would like to have a go at getting it going please please!! do.
I'll pay you.
otherwise if anyone wants to buy my bike and extra motor and parts please do.
thanks
Malcolm

Jobert,
First thing I would do is remove the spark plugs and check those for
exccesive wear or junk. While the plugs are out, do a dry compression test
and record your findings. Then do a wet compression check. If any of the
values increase SIGNIFIGANTLY then it would indicate that you likely have
damaged ring(s) in that cylinder.
If doing the wet test does not increase the compression drastically, then
the compression leak is either through your head gasket or your valves. The
next step would be to check the valve clearances. Refer to the manual for
that, it's a bit of a lengthy process.
If the compression is fine across the board, then the only thing I can think
of is to check your timing.

Hy everybody!
I'm new here am I hope that I'll find a Suzuki GSF250 Bandit Manual.
The "little beast" is 1990 production and now I've some problem.
Tkank you very much!
I have a 250 four I am putting on ebay in the next few days. It all
works and is complete --- EXCEPT, it won't idle below about 2500rpm
and won't start without assistance from aerostart.
Once running rides OK, runs OK --- needs minor work.
Will place pics on ebay --- suitable for spares or restore --- I gave
up trying to make it run properly ...

Hi Clyde,
The pdf file for the GS250fw is 26mb so i can't email it through hotmail and
i don't have anywhere to store it online. I'm not sure its much better than
the jpg version already online.

The engine is rebuild is slowly taking place. Word of advice is to
shop around. I had a quote for rings @ $92per cylinder! A bit steep I
thought, so after some research and many emails I've found a set for
$147 colemans suzuki in NZ. They seem to be more stocked up and
knowlegdeable on the gf's then I've come across here in Aus.. Would
like to deal direct with Japan but finding the english link is difficult.

after having my bike sit in the garage for more than 3 years I've
decided to make a psecial out of it. So keep a look out on ebay soon
for parts such as wheels, forks, swing arm, shock, plastics tank etc.
Most parts need some work beacuase I t-boned a tray ute and I haven't
seen the bike and bits since 2001, but the person who's house it is in
will hopefully give some more details.
99% complete. 20,000 original kilometers garaged for last ten years.
Tamworth NSW Australia, Ask for Rob 67623853
Make an offer, looking for a bigger bike will swap.
Guys, can anyone tell me the standard gearing for the GF 250.
As bought mine had engine 13, rear wheel 45.
My dealer told me it should be 14 / 48 , which is a bit higher.
Does anyone know please?
thanks

Hi Carl
ah the Choke, yeah I've used plenty of that. I'll chance the leads and check the
coils. I'll try and do that next week.
I let you know how I go.
Thanks again.

In the service manual it states resistances for the coil primary and

all with a meter. Changing the leads over would be quick too (if
they're stuffed).
The easy out sounds like a winner - if you can get one that small..
The enrichment system is the choke. It's two little cable driven,
spring loaded plungers that screw into the back of both the
carburettors; you'd know if you didn't hook it up.

Pete was good he did the valve clearances very quikly. The other carbies on the
other bike have 2 jammed up air jet screws. So no luke there.
Spark seems good, but I will try the other coils and leads off the other bike.
I was thinking easy out will be the only option it is fused stuck.

It is starting to become promising.

There'd be a few things I'd look at:
- Enrichment system
- Ignition system (for that plug/coil)
- Air jet (as you mentioned)
If you don't have the enrichment system connected, then I suggest you
connect it :)
I'd also see if you have a good spark on that plug, maybe the plug's
bad, maybe the lead is bad (I think you can change them with standard
lead wire), maybe the coil is bad (try swapping the coils).
I'd also see how far out the air jet for the cylinder is compared to the
others - get some calipers in the screw hole and compare it to the
others. If you need another jet, I might have a good one floating
around - or you could try one from your other bike..
Did the mechanic clean out the carburettor and re-set all the jets to
stock?

Hey Malcolm,
Glad to hear that it's almost working :)
Did the mechanic clean out the carburettor and re-set all the jets to
stock?
As for getting the screw out - I'd ask a mechanic. The carburettor's
pretty soft metal and you don't want to risk damaging it. You might
find an "Easy-out" small enough to do it, but that's something I'd give
to somebody else to do :P
Good Luck!
Carl

finally get it to rev and run without the starter moter. Up untill it actully
revs the clyinder with the jamed carbie air screw has not even tried to go, the
exhaust remains stone cold all the others begin to warm up. When It finnaly gets
going all clyinders run fine. and above 4000 rpm appears to rev smooth.
