You should use D9EA or if your motor has a few miles on it you can use
D8EA which are one heat range hotter. (I use these)
C8HSA is incorrect and should not be used.
Cheers, Ben.
Greetings all,
Could someone please tell me what spark plugs go into an 84 GF250?
I've checked the workshop manual which says NGK D9EAs, but the ones I
pulled out of the bike are NGK C8HSAs.
The reason I ask is that I'd prefer to follow the manual and get the
D9EAs but the manual was for a GS250FW and I wanted to avoid having to
go back and swap things over because one had a bigger diameter than
that on the bike.
Alternatively, I don't want to get the C8HSAs in case they're not the
right spec and will end up screwing the bike up more than it already is.
Cheers,
TB
Hi, my 87 GF 250 is down on power and I suspect the compression is low.
Anyone experience of how much I am in for to do rebore and new pistons
and rings?
The bke not worth a whole lot and I dont want to throw money at it.
thanks
Mark

For Casper James: I would be interested in a couple of Carbs. Are the ones you
have any good? Just need new jets but can't seem to find them anywhere and the
bike runs crappy without the fix. Let me know. Thanks. Bike is in Accra, Ghana

The fork seals aren't that hard to do. It is a messy job to say the
least. Get GOOD quality fork seals. This is a must. The cheap ones
are well cheap. I tried them and ended up doing the job twice. Also
take your for tubes in to get straightened. Mine were horibly bent.
They still are a bit but they are much better. If you have rust, I'm
talking very light rust, then sand it back with 800 grit paper in a
honing fashion. You want a nice diamond pattern. You can also try
touching up any bad spots with a bit of super glue before the sanding.
It is not perfect but it will give you some time to save for
rechroming or new forks.
cheers

Hi everyone,
Hope that everyone's had some goiod times on their bikes recently.
I've finally got my gf on the road and registered. Its great fun as
well getting me to work every day.
Anyhows I do however have a few issues that need to be addressed.
1. The cam chain tensioner needs to be replaced. Has anyone purchased
an aftermarket tensioner that they could recommend?
2. the fork seals are leaking and need to be replaced. Has anyone done
this before and can offer some advice? Is it a job that can be done at
home or one for the shop
3. Thanks for the oil change directions. Will be using them shortly.
Cheers!
Have most parts, except rear suspension, wheel.
Bike had 20,000km, but I cut it in half with a grinder, front half incl
motor/gearbox intact. some fairing and bits and peices from rear half
also available.
Will give away for free if the lot is taken. Good oportunity for hard
to get parts.
Located Tamworth NSW.

One line goes from the float bowl to the gas tank on/off valve and the other is
the air or vacuum line. At least I think I remember that correctly. Haven't seen
my bike for five months. Speaking of carbs, has anyone ever been sucessful in
locating an outlet for new jets for the carbs? I know Mark was looking but I
don't think he had much luck. Thanks.

I am currently putting the pieces of a gf250s. I have a question about
the carbies, hopefully someone can put me straight.
I am wondering where to connect two possible hoses on each carby. The
picture in the manual just has the line going off to no-where.Its a
little hard to explain so I have posted the manual page into the photo
albums under the heading "help" The hose in question has been
highlighted red.
It appears that this hose was never connected on the bike, but as its
history is unknown I would love to get a confirmation before I put it
back together again.
The bike was running poorly and would not idle, could this be the problem?
thanks in advance

Hi.
These bikes aren't worth too much, maybe AU$1500 running, in reasonable
condition and registered if you were to sell it.
Parts can also be difficult to come by for these models. Some new parts
might have to come from Japan if they are still available.
So it comes down to how much work is needed and what parts are required to
get it going and wether you are doing it yourself. And whether you are
fixing it up for fun or for profit.
If you decide not to take the project on there are probably a few people
here who might be interested in buying parts or the whole bike.

Hey peoples,
I'm new to motorcycles in general and while shopping around one of
mates remembered he had an old bike in the shed.
Turns out it's a GS250FW, and it does need a lot of work... Will
hopefully check the engine out over the w-end.
I was just wondering if you guys thought it was worthwhile to try and
restore it to running condition (even if that requires an engine
rebuild) or whether I should just look at selling it on for parts?
Cheers,

love the site and the email's i get about the gf250.
wondering if anybody knows where i can track down a roadworthy frame
for a gf20s.
i t boned a tray ute and was going to street fighter it but changed my
mind a will try to do a restore instead.
thanks for your time.
Howdy All
Anyone know what forks I can substitute to suit the GS250FW? Mine
have a nice bend in both sides and too many small nicks to seal
properly. I just replaces the seals and they are leaking after only a
few k's.
So what bike (that is a bit more commonly available at the wreckers)
could I grab some forks off? Anyone know a rough price I should be
looking at? I thought maybe the Across....
cheers
Scott
Mark,
It appears the GS250T (apparently also known as the GSX250T outside of the
USA) is an air cooled twin so is very different from the GS250FW and GF250.
Whether it uses the same carbs I don't know but I found a picture of a set
(attached) which maybe someone can compare. If they are the same would the
jets be the same as the two engines are very different?

Hi John, just a quick question before I post you the carby parts list. After
getting home I had a really close look at the list and I found that the
schematic looked slightly different from the Mikuni carb on the GS250FW. The
designation on top of the page said GS250T. My question is whether or not, are
they the same carb, or have I been given a bum steer from this Peter Stevens
guy? Also, the clutch plates I bought off him were for a GS250 and it has fixed
my slipping problem although 1 was slightly thinner than the other 5. He said
that it was normal for 1 to be thinner although my old ones were all the same as
each other. Is the GS250T different? No point sending you this in the post it if
is! Regards, Mark

That's great news Mark and I appreciate the effort. I will wait for John to post
the information on part numbers. I assume we can order thru any one of the P.
Stevens parts departs? I will check and see if the US outlets can order what I
need once I have the part numbers etc. Thanks a lot. Brian

Hi all. As promised to Brian I have finally gotten down to Peter
Stevens and enquired about a full carby kit for the GS250FW. I was told
that they dont come in a kit form but you can purchase all the parts
for each carby seperately. The guy I spoke to had the personality of a
dead fish and getting any info out of him was like pulling teeth (very
painful). I was able to source a complete parts list with a break down
scematic for the carbs from him though, and he said to take it home and
have a look at what I needed and he could get it in. All carby parts
were available! I now have to find a way of uploading it here as I dont
have a scanner. When I have, any one interested can just call them up
with the part number and order it.
I'm sorry it took so long to organise this Brian, but I have been away
on holiday and when I got back I had to repair the clutch on my bike.
I'm now on the road again and havin fun!!! Cheers, Mark
Hey Scott, it looks as though you will be on the road in no time. I
recovered my seat too only a couple of weeks ago and I got my vinyl
from Spotlight as well. Seems great minds think alike as you have
done exactly what I did!! If anyone else needs to recover theirs I
suggest you go for it. As Scott and I have proved, its not hard. And
for $8-$10, you can afford to stuff it up a few times until you get
it right lol.
I have to replace the clutch on my bike now before I can ride it
again as its started to slip and I have no more adjustment left in
the cable. I have the plates on order and should be here this week.
Cost me $90 for a new set from Peter Stevens.
I am also going to replace the headlight globe for a brighter one, as
it is a bit scary riding on country roads at 5.30 in the morning and
having the word "WOMBAT" in the back of your mind!!!! I also have to
attach my Gearsack and rack this week as a backpack can really hurt
on the bumpy roads when you have a thermos of coffee hitting you in
the kidney's (not fun!) on the 45 minute ride to work. Cheers, Mark.

I just finished recovering my seat last night. It was a lot easier
than I first thought it would be. Cost me a whole $8.
First remove the old torn seat cover by pulling out the one million
staples that hold it on (a small flat head works great). Now undo the
stitching that connects the top and sides. I didn't bother with the
extra along the bottom of the sides where the staples go. Get a 0.5m
piece of vinyl from Spotlight. Trace the shapes onto the bottom of
the vinyl. Leave at least 2-3cm along the bottom edge of the side
pieces (I did these in two sections rather than the one to make it fit
on my piece of vinyl) as this allows room for the staples.
Sew it all together with a double stitch for strength. Fit it and
staple it all down with a pit of glue for luck.
It doesn't matter how accurate your traces are as the vinyl stretches
quite a bit.
cheers
Scott
Ok, so I pulled the rectifier and cleaned all the wiring. I then
charged the battery and started her up. Got a reading of 13.8 and
stayed there. Now all I need to do is recover the seat and I'm ready
for rego.
cheers

The regulator/rectifier is mounted behind the left hand side cover (as
you are seated on bike) its the metal box with the fins that is held
on with two Allan key bolts (5mm).
Just been in garage pulling bike apart to check! noticed that it looks
as if my reg's been getting hot, the paint behind it's blistering a
bit. Pulled it off, looks Ok from behind.. I guess I'll be testing it
tomorrow!
When I first got the bike I checked the charging system and it was ok.
You will need a multimeter to test the charging system.
With battery charged, rule of thumb is 13.8 to 14.4 volts at battery
when motor running, no light on. put lights on high and voltage should
still be within this. If voltage is less than 13.8 or greater than 15
volts, you've got problems.
My manual and the colours seem to be 3x yellow wires, a red, and a
black with white trace, too dark out now to confirm, but I'll post if
different.
cheers,
Ben.

Howdy All
Does anyone have a better, clearer copy of the wiring diagram for the
GS250FW? I am trying to clean up my wiring but am finding it
difficult to read the colours, etc.
Much appreciated.
Cheers
