Hi John, just a quick question before I post you the carby parts list. After
getting home I had a really close look at the list and I found that the
schematic looked slightly different from the Mikuni carb on the GS250FW. The
designation on top of the page said GS250T. My question is whether or not, are
they the same carb, or have I been given a bum steer from this Peter Stevens
guy? Also, the clutch plates I bought off him were for a GS250 and it has fixed
my slipping problem although 1 was slightly thinner than the other 5. He said
that it was normal for 1 to be thinner although my old ones were all the same as
each other. Is the GS250T different? No point sending you this in the post it if

Hey Scott, it looks as though you will be on the road in no time. I
recovered my seat too only a couple of weeks ago and I got my vinyl
from Spotlight as well. Seems great minds think alike as you have
done exactly what I did!! If anyone else needs to recover theirs I
suggest you go for it. As Scott and I have proved, its not hard. And
for $8-$10, you can afford to stuff it up a few times until you get
it right lol.
I have to replace the clutch on my bike now before I can ride it
again as its started to slip and I have no more adjustment left in
the cable. I have the plates on order and should be here this week.
Cost me $90 for a new set from Peter Stevens.
I am also going to replace the headlight globe for a brighter one, as
it is a bit scary riding on country roads at 5.30 in the morning and
having the word "WOMBAT" in the back of your mind!!!! I also have to
attach my Gearsack and rack this week as a backpack can really hurt
on the bumpy roads when you have a thermos of coffee hitting you in
the kidney's (not fun!) on the 45 minute ride to work. Cheers, Mark.

First remove the old torn seat cover by pulling out the one million
staples that hold it on (a small flat head works great). Now undo the
stitching that connects the top and sides. I didn't bother with the

Ok, so I pulled the rectifier and cleaned all the wiring. I then
charged the battery and started her up. Got a reading of 13.8 and
stayed there. Now all I need to do is recover the seat and I'm ready
for rego.

as if my reg's been getting hot, the paint behind it's blistering a
bit. Pulled it off, looks Ok from behind.. I guess I'll be testing it

When I first got the bike I checked the charging system and it was ok.

Mine had problems mid range too, But I found that the more I ride it
the better it gets! Also some previous owner had put a larger front
sprocket on, changing it for a std one improved things no end, heaps
more fun, reduced mid range problems and lots more go!
My bike really goes well in the higher rev range, pulls like a 2
stroke power band, great fun factor.
I adjusted my mixtures by unbolting the back of the tank and chocking
it up, lots more room.

the guy at the desk said it hadn't been registered since 2001. My
bike seems to break down a bit between 5000 and 5500rpm's but I have
put some carby cleaner in the tank with some premium fuel and its
getting better the more I ride. When adjusting the Idle screws I
found it easy to use a small stubby flathead screw driver. If you are
after some decals after you have finished painting it, let me know as
I was able to source some here recently in Aus quite cheaply. Let us

Looks like I will be getting the BT45's. Found the right sizes after
talking to some other suppliers. $110 Front and $130 rear. But my
friends father is a rep for the QLD tyre ditributors so I might get
them a fair bit cheaper!

I'm running a Bridgestone Battlax BT45 100/90/16 on front, very happy
with it, going to fit same brand to rear in a 110/90/18. No problem
getting these sizes here in Melbourne.

When I had my GF250 many years ago I bought parts from my local Suzuki
dealer, Freedom Motorcycles, in Brookvale (Sydney). They had the microfiche
and ordered parts for me from Japan. You can try them, email to:

Howdy: Just a short note regarding parts etc.and trying to work with Peter

Thanks John, it was a lot of hard work as you can imagine and took
around 6 months to complete although I was only working on it on my
week ends so I suppose it wasn't too bad. It wouldn't have taken so
long normally but I wanted, and had to change things like the
indicators, hand grips and a new seat. The decals took a bit of time to
arrange and get in too. Regards, Mark
