On another important issue, Nathan and Ian are now leading the Delta Loyd regatta in The Netherlands. Lets hope they can hang on, they are nine points ahead with 4 races left to go. Bundie and Ben are lying 19th and Ewan is 20th so all very respectable results. There are 48 competitors and most of those would be full time pros.
Nath and the others are coming back for next weekend's event so let's support him and the other guys. This is also a bit of a test for a new type of class sponsorship so its up to all of us to encourage new sponsorship by supporting events like this.
For those who did not make the effort to race yesterday at WSC bumma DUDE! cause it was great. Despite plenty of rain in the morning, things cleared up in the arvo and we enjoyed three races around 10kts-12kts with surprisingly good stable conditions, apart from a hole in the wind towards the end of the last race when the breeze died off for 10min before returning.
An extra layer of rubber is all that was required to stay warm...a few euro style beenies were spotted on the water too.
We had 6 boats with two new rigs and the rest the old style. It was great to see that my boat (932) had no significant speed disadvantage to the newer riggs and it was skill and brains that stopped me winning every race NOT equipment.
With the welcome return of Mike Boyd club commodore to 49er sailing the age range between the youngest and oldest sailors was about 30years...who says its only a young man's sport!
It was a great day and lotsa smiles in the hot showers afterwards.
I hope to see more boats back on the water when racing commences in two weeks.
NEXT WEEK is the 49er promo day to help raise money for our young sailors going to the worlds. Please help the event by registering and coming down and doing a race. It should be fun. I plan to have my cruiser out on sat so reserve your spot to come and hang out and watch the racers from the back of my boat. If you are interested please let me know.
The basic format is that you register and get to crew a race with one of the guys going to europe and receive a goody bag with gift vouchers worth more than your entry fee so its well worth participating.
Well two weeks in a row of getting blown out is unusual at this time of year but dont give up team, it will get nice soon...usually between weekends it seems.
This sat it is forecast to be windy but sub twenty so everyone should get out there.
There are guys around who want to crew so put the message on the forum if you need a hand and lets go sailing.
Cat & I were planning to sail, but forecast looks a bit too strong for us.

dont forget about the 49er event coming up on the 6th and 7th of June.
It would be great to get lots of support for the event and with the gift vouchers that are supplied its a net positive to participate so get involved and support our guys going o/s.
This weekend there will be club racing at wsc on sat at 1pm. Hopefully the weather will be friendly allthough its not looking great rght now I hope the forecast will not be accurate. Two weeks in a row of 20-30kts is unlucky.
Unfortunately there was no 49er racing last sat due to strong winds. we have been unlucky this yr with many days lost due to 20kt+ winds but thats life.
Next sat should be better. Unfortunately I have to go interstate but there should be a few boats so try and get down there. I saw Tai yesterday and he would be happy to do some sailing. I know there are a few guys out there always looking for good crews or indeed skippers. Tai can do both.
I am not coming today either I'm sorry. Check in with Lizzi or Sam in the office and you can launch a RIB to lay marks, they may do it for you if time permits.
We did not sail today due to strong winds, but have decided to meet tomorrow (Sunday 17th May) for a sail. Those probably coming are us, Paul, Harry and possibly Graham.
On the water at 1pm, Paul said we should be able to at least set 2 marks.

Team,
It seems the club wants to make sat racing this winter to start at 1.30pm to accommodate school kids.
I will try to arrange for the 49ers to race earlier than that (due to the more likelyhood of wind) if I can get some interest. So far, Emma would prefer the mornings as do I but I have had no feedback from anyone else (except Dave).
Please let me know.
I went for a sail this morning and was reminded as always why I love sailing 49ers in sydney. Just make it happen and get out there this winter!
SIRS (2009-10)
There are parties who would like to move the 49ers to Belmont for sirs next season.
I like the idea. The sailing is better all round and:
There are many good young skiff sailors who live up there and for those who struggle to find competent crews, I suggest the hosting club encourages its young sailors to put their names on a list to make themselves available to crew with visiting skippers.
I will certainly do the regatta if I can get a good crew and I think others would to.
Thoughts?
Nigel

I think the sailing instructions say that racing will not start
before 1pm not 1.30.
