Nearest camp site is East Soldiers (not to be confused with Soldiers Point Holiday Park which is a 5 min drive). However, have been told it is possible to find large (10 bed holiday houses) to rent on Wander Beach which is walking distance from club. Are you interested in trying to book a house and fill with lots 49er/B14 people? If enough people are interested, I will investigate.

Count us in for Port Stephens too. We've never been there. What is
the name of the club? Does anyone know of any cheap accomodation
(even camping?) nearby?

Yes indeed!
Port stephens is an open event + plan on going. The B14's tipped me off to it as an event worth doing.

If you are keen to secure a place in the container that is going to
Rotterdam in May please let me know so that we can request spaces in
the AYF container. Please do not indicate interest if you are NOT
SURE. Money has to change hands shortly. NORs have been posted for
both regattas. Visas are required. If you wish to share
accomodation near the venues with other Australian competitors let
me know soon.
Australian 49er Association Fees are now due. They are A$100.00 per
boat and I will asking for the money from boats at upcoming events.
Australia is NOT entitled to participate at the Worlds until the
fees are paid to the international body so your assistance is
appreciated.
Please find attached the Winter Sailing schedule at WSC from Lissa McMillan (Club Captain)
The key points are :- 1) Racing start times will change to 12.30 from Sunday April 3. (for specific dates of racing please view the attachment)
2) Please note the Presentation Party is on 8th May, starting at 6pm in the FUNction Room, and concluding with supper and drinks. On the water earlier that day will be the club fun day, where senior and junior sailors get together - and the juniors can get to have a ride on some of the other classes of boats we sail out of WSC.
3) take a look at the calendar and let me know if you have any preferences (ideas) for coaching and training days.
BASS STRAIT CONQUERED BY LASER DINGHY SAILOR One of the most ferocious
pieces of water in the world was today conquered by Australian sailing Olympic
Bronze medallist, Dr Michael Blackburn, who sailed his 4.2 metre Laser Dinghy
from Stanley in Northern Tasmania 115 nautical miles to Tidal Beach in Norman
Bay, near Wilson's Promontory, Victoria in 13.5 hours. The perfect weather
window opened for the Sydney
sailor, with winds of 15-20 knots powering his tiny craft, with
pocket-handkerchief 7 square metres of sail
'I hoisted sail at 3:30 am.
The first few hours before dawn was pretty hairy, I was planing downwind doing
8-9's, with no moon and no stars, a couple of times I put the bow in the water
and filled the cockpit. First light was a little after 6am and it was a relief to see the waves were
not as big as they seemed in the dark. .We knew we just had to be patient and
wait for the right day and this was it. I always knew Lasers were fun
down-wind, I reckon I caught a wave just about every 10 seconds for 13 and a
half hours (4000+ waves). My average speed was 8.6 knots. Today has just been a
blast.'
37-year-old Blackburn, who sailed in the Laser class at three Olympics,
was a heartbreaking two points out of the medals in Atlanta,
but won Bronze in Sydney.
By 2004 he reached number one in the world rankings and again won selection but
finished ninth. - Rob Kothe, www.Sail-World.comBlackburn's website: www.sailfitter.com

Joules,
I forgot to ask you to cut down the caps on my stick. The caps and shrouds
are too close to the same length.

Just let
you all know, I am sitting here with David Maiden, we have just spoken to
Moolabah and the National 49er Championships shall be held out of that club
from Good Friday (25th March) to Easter Monday (28th March).
NoR to
follow, expectation is that registration will be early on Friday with initial
heats latter that day.
QLD 29er
States will be happening at the same time on the same course.

rig - do results count?
I always believe they should be encouraged and you score points using
them.
On the basis that they help people to learn and save money - from damage.

Controversial topic for a Friday morning....
Given the 20-25 knots forecast for tomorrow afternoon, do I have
dispensation to sail with the sports rig and do I get points or no results.
Or can I do a deal and get points for starting or something similar?
Should look at getting a Yardstick happening for the *sport rig*
guys out there, that are either inexperienced or never sail *full*
Rag!!!
That would be the way to go!
